  2. I don’t love to give people one-size-fits all advice on dog ownership because everyone is different but this is just SO important. The dog you own can be with you for over a decade. You’ll still own the dog when life gets busy, when you’ve had a long day at work, when you’ve got a lot of social events on your plate, when you have kids if you decide to, they don’t magically go away during the hard moments. So when you’re choosing to bring home a dog, don’t think about the life you want to live, but the life you currently live or realistically will be living in the future. Are you able and willing to manage that dog during the hard points in life? I love herding breeds. I love the tenacity, the eagerness to train, the look, the temperament, but I know my lifestyle isn’t suited for it. Could I probably own one and make it work? Yeah probably. Would it drive me up the wall when it won’t stop herding or barking at me when I get home if we didn’t go for an appropriately fulfilling activity, absolutely. So that’s my Thursday two cents. What kind of dog do you wish you could add to the family but know you shouldn’t???

  3. Heading into 2024 with some pretty big news… The Alfresco Science Machine and I have travelled a long way since I first started this project in 2017. From the west coast to the east coast of Canada, through rainforest, boreal forest, and Carolinian swamp forest. From the ocean, to the mountains, and across the prairies. And now in January 2024 you will find this work in National Geographic Magazine. To say I’m thrilled would be the understatement of the year. It’s such an honour to have my work published among so many incredibly talented photographers, to find myself in the company of those who dedicate their careers to sharing the incredible wonders of the natural world with readers around the globe, and the importance of doing everything we can to take care of all the living things that we share this planet with. Miss World Class of 2022 🤍 Looks like I have a lot of people to visit over the next couple of years 😄 One of the most valuable lessons I took away from this journey was how to celebrate the strength and success of other women without feeling intimidated. When I was younger, especially in high school, I often felt threatened by the confidence of other women (which was a reflection of my own insecurities at that time 🤷🏻‍♀️). There were many times during Miss World in Puerto Rico or while I was interviewing the girls for my Instagram live series, when I would catch myself thinking with pure admiration “wow she’s really killing it”. It feels so good to recognize the power of women around you with nothing but positivity. When I first moved away from home I felt pretty alone. But this episode helped me reflected on all the community I created around my family and me. With family from Akwesasne and Six, language, beadwork, hide tanning, sports, and other Indigenous mothers. This is what really drives me to do workshops in all forms, helping people of all ages build those connections so they can feel that support and the community feeling too.
