  3. Makes me so sad to see the face of a mother as soon as they hear the baby crying and people telling her “looks your baby is still hungry”. Remember crying is not always a sign of hunger & if it really is, if the baby is really searching to feed, remember it’s very normal for the baby to feed a lot during the first weeks postpartum! Doesn’t mean your baby is not satisfied with your milk! As long as your baby is peeing and pooping and didn’t lose more than 7 % of his birth weight and is then gaining weight after 2 weeks postpartum, then we’re all good! Just look closely for hunger cues and remember crying is not always a sign of hunger ❤️ كتير بزعّلني منظر الإمّ اللّي بيقولولها بس الطفل يبكي “شكله بعده جوعان”. تذكّروا إنّه البكي مش عطول دليل جوع. وإذا كان الطفل عن جدّ جوعان وبدّه ياكل، فهيدا شي طبيعي إنّه الطفل ياكل كتير أوّل كم أسبوع بعد الولادة! هيدا ما بيعني أبدًا إنّه ما عم يشبع من حليبك! طالما الطفل عم يعمل pipi وcaca بشكل طبيعي وما خسر أكتر من 7% من وزن الولادة، وعم ينصح بعد أسبوعين من الولادة، يعني كل شي منيح! انتبهوا بسّ لعلامات الجوع وتذكّروا إنّه البكي مش عطول دليل جوع.

  2. Keep growing, Little One! We’re officially pregnant with a confirmed heartbeat of 166! Our Dr is SO very happy with today’s ultrasound. We got to see it all!!!! At 5w6d this is more than we could have hoped for. We can’t believe it!!!Trying to bask in this good news and remember that this can work. We are having a baby!   1. Baby Hafþórsson made his world debut yesterday, September 26th 2020 at 39 weeks at 3530 grams and 52cm. . At 5:00 AM I woke up to pee and felt a small gush. I wasn’t sure if it was my water or the evening primrose suppository I took the night before. I went back to bed and started feeling some cramps but still wasn’t sure if I was going into labour. After about twenty min and a few cramps later I got out of bed and felt another gush. After this I knew I was in labour and decided to lay back down, let Hafþór sleep and see how things went. After some more cramps, more water and some mucus plug, Hafþór woke up a little and I let him know I was losing my water. He immediately flew out of bed and asked if we were leaving or if we should at least call the midwives! I calmly explained that we would wait a bit, we didn’t know how long things would take to get moving. At this point we started timing my contractions and they were just under a minute with a five minute rest. I decided to take a quick shower and wash my hair. In between contractions, we made electrolyte drinks, some food and got ourselves ready. At shortly after 7:00AM We called @eyruntj to come photograph as well as our doula and midwife to update, I ended up passing the phone to Hafþór as I needed to vomit right after a strong contraction (which I did once more throughout the labour). Our midwife arrived shortly before 8:00 and checked me to find I was 5cm dilated. We decided I would try the bath at home but after she checked me my contractions started coming for over a minute every 2-3 minutes. We then made the call to move to Björkin, the birthing center. At 8:40AM we arrived after a brutal car ride where I started using deep vocals as a pain technique. I just wanted to get into the birthing pool once we arrived, I paced around between contractions and when one hit I would lean over and Hafþór would squeeze my hips. By 9:00 AM I was in the pool and finally felt some relief, enough that I was able to gather myself a bit between the first few contractions. In my first week as a mom this is what I’ve learned: . 🤍 You will be tired 🤍 you will need support 🤍 You will be emotional 🤍 Your body will be sore 🤍 Poop will get everywhere 🤍 Pee will get everywhere 🤍 Tea will get cold, food will get cold . And through it all you could not be happier or more in love. I’m just sitting here staring at this little human I’ve made in awe, every moment that I can 🤍. The saying when a baby is born so is a mother rings so true when reflecting on the past week. I had done so much research and education on pregnancy and birth and so little on the mom part I started to get some anxiety about becoming a mom. I’m only now just in the middle of a book about the postpartum period. Once he was born all of those worries just washed away and intuition took over. Still can’t believe I’m a mom 😝.

  2. Iris Evelaine Durrett was born on the 4th of July at 9:13pm as the fireworks lit up the Nashville sky :) 8lbs on the dot and 20in long. Momma and baby are both doing well and to say I’m so proud of both is an understatement. We are tired and happy and finding a rhythm and just so in awe.   1. We have been blessed with TWO day 6 embryos🙏🏾✨🤍🤍🥹🥹 • Next steps…they have been biopsied and sent off genetic testing (this will help us eliminate any abnormal embryos). They will be frozen whilst we wait a few weeks for the results 🙏🏾✨💫 • For now we have done all we possibly can in Cyprus and I am proud of us. I actually took this board and the number 3 to the beach club with me today as I was convinced 3 was our magic number. For many this drop in numbers is familiar territory but never gets easier! • On the plus side we still have two embryos that are growing at day 3🙏🏾🙏🏾 As agonising as today has been we have to take the good from today! 2 chances and 2 blessings still on the horizon 🙏🏾✨💫🤍 • For those not already aware - day 5 is the crucial day for embryos. Day 5 is said to be the stage where you have the best chance of success when transferring. They can also undergo chromosomal testing at day 5 and can be frozen. • Keep frighting and growing em babies 🙏🏾✨💫🩵🩷

She’s our little miracle girl 🤍 Sadly, we lost her sister, Jordan Rose, at just 3 days old.   2. ~2 years ago i wanted to quit medicine - completely. i have wanted to be a physician ever since I was 7 years old, so this realization was quite foundation shifting. I loved medicine. But the system and the business of healthcare was in direct conflict with the actual "care" in healthcare: both for patients and their physicians. For physicians, the system contained a lack of autonomy and the prioritization of volume over value. It created a lack of boundaries between professional and personal time and criticized physicians for not reaching a target that was ever moving and unreachable from the start. The practice of medicine was no longer... beautiful. It was frustrating and filled with inadequate time, moral injury, increasing demands and expectations and dwindling support and transparency. I had personal encounters with physicians, in which I was the patient, that were.. exhausting and disheartening. I remember thinking to myself, "is this what medicine has become? Is this all that healthcare is capable of?" There are not a lot of ways to gain some semblance of control, autonomy and choice as a physician within this current healthcare system. In the reel I describe a few changes that I made, which truly felt like a breath of fresh air. Those changes helped me remember why I went into medicine and also helped me learn how to prioritize myself, professionally. There have been many amazing physicians that have exited the clinical practice of medicine since 2020 and many more plan to leave by 2025. Hopefully the content in this reel helps someone else the way that it helped me. ❤️ with love, dr chimmy, md 💋
