  1. It was traumatic when I was pregnant - my insides were burning constantly, scar tissue tearing. I was told “it’s pregnancy what do you expect”. It was traumatic when I was in and out of labour - I was vomiting blood, I knew something was wrong. I was ignored. It was traumatic to watch his heart rate decrease on the monitors and no one care enough to get him out. It was traumatic when he was born - I didn’t even know it had happened until the midwife alerted me to a cry and told me that was my baby outside of the room. It was traumatic when I heard the doctors say something wasn’t right. It was traumatic when they brought him in to see me and I knew I was going under General Anaesthetic - when would I see him again? It was traumatic to be in ITU and told I’m not allowed to see my baby. It was traumatic to only see him via a phone screen. It was traumatic to have doctors talk to me like they didn’t just damage me. It was traumatic to eventually see my baby at 2 days old and not be allowed to touch him. It was traumatic when my son was moved to another hospital at 3 days old despite my plea’s to let him stay since I couldn’t go with him. It was traumatic when my nurse brought me a breast pump and I had no idea how to use it. It was traumatic when I was expressing milk for a baby I couldn’t see or hold. It was traumatic when I begged daily to be moved hospitals to be told no. It was traumatic to wake up on my first Mother’s Day without my child. It was traumatic when he eventually returned and I had to beg to go and be with him. It was traumatic to feel my body shutting down and have no control. It was traumatic to have numerous interventions to keep me alive. It was traumatic to hear I had to go back to theatre the day before my baby was going home. It was traumatic to see my husband and mother in law go home with my baby who I had literally given my life for. Trauma encompassed everything from my pregnancy to delivery. Those accountable had no repercussions for their actions. Change needs to happen. @birth_trauma_association_uk @birthbetter @theoclarkemp @leicestershospitals @nhsengland @nicu.warriors @nicunatter @miraclemoonuk

  2. To my boys, I’m a type ME parent. I do things MY way for OUR family. You’ll always have clean clothes - but they may not always be from the drawers - sometimes straight from the dryer. You’ll never go hungry - is it nuggets and chips or is it homemade stir fry - who knows - but you’re always fed. I like a bubble bath for some ‘me’ time - but if I have to choose between that bath and settling you to bed - you’ll always come first. I would like a hot coffee some mornings - but if you decide you need a refill of cereal or want some toast or more juice - my coffee can go cold. My once neat and tidy home is now full of toys - the learning I observe between you both every day when you’re exploring those toys and building a bond- I can cope with the toddler aesthetic. A once peaceful shopping trip now consists of directing one of you to get items off the shelf and hand them to the other to put in the trolley - team work makes the dream work though. At the end of those days when you’ve terrorised each other (and me) and I’m counting down to bed time - if you would like an extra story before bed - you can have it. If we go out for the day and it has a knock on effect to your routine - it’s okay - routines can be bent from time to time. If my life revolves around the pair of you - and that means I don’t get the freedom I once had - that’s fine. We have a village who love to care for you. I never ask for them to have you overnight - they offer - but it’s rare I let you go. Despite how tired you both make me - I miss you when you’re gone. This is the life I chose. I have no regrets. I don’t miss the version of me I used to be. I get to be your everything. That is priceless. One day: my house will be quiet, the toys will be gone, the laundry will be put away and I can have a hot coffee in the bath, in peace. I’ll be able to go out, see friends etc. And I will miss the days where everything revolved around you both and I can only hope that I spent enough time bonding with you both that you will choose to want to visit and spend time with me. My boys - you make me the best version of myself and I would not change it .. not now.. not ever 💙🩵

  3. I’ll never forget that night.. The monitors beeping, the red warning lights. The midwife’s silence every time his heart rate dropped. The doctor finally agreeing to deliver. Being in unfathomable pain - as I had been for 5 previous days. Signing a consent form without taking the time to read it. Being led away from my husband and all of my fears and phobias playing out one by one. Needles, spinal, struggling to cannulate, baby born not crying.. that should be enough to traumatise anyone.. But for me it got worse. Bowel perforation, bowel surgery, bowel ileus, bowel resection.. all in the first 13 days post partum .. 40+ cannulas, TPN & midline.. that’s it - right? No In the background, my baby is deteriorating.. he gets moved to a different hospital.. I can’t go with him.. don’t get to see him for 2 days, then 6 days.. he eventually goes home without me.. the day after my second surgery. I don’t see him for 12 more days. But that’s it right? No .. second pregnancy - this one is smooth.. but afterwards.. The join from the resection kinked, I lose 12kg in 4 months, my body is wasting away. GP’s don’t believe me, the hospital don’t believe me. Until an MRI proves I’m right. I have surgery.. that will fix it - right? No. Here I am.. recovering from my 6th surgery in 3 years. This time.. another bowel resection. 30cm of bowel removed to be exact. Severe PTSD being triggered. To the version of me in the photo above, just praying her baby is born safe.. you have no idea what life is about to throw at you.. or how strong you’re going to have to be to get through 2 c-sections and 4 bowel surgeries whilst going from 1 baby, to 2 under 2, to 2 toddlers. To the version of me at 4:30am March 2022.. this is just the beginning.. but you’ve got this. #csection #csectionrecovery #csectioncomplications #bowelsurgery #bowelperforation #csectionawarenessmonth #mum #mumstagram #mumsofinsta #boymum #toddlermum #birthtrauma #birthtraumaawareness #ptsd

  3. HELLO!⁣⁣⁣⁣ A little intro every now & then doesn't go amiss so I thought I'd come & say hi. It's really lovely to have you here.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I'm Alison. I'm a Registered Nutritionist & Fertility Specialist. I help couples & individuals navigate their journey towards parenthood - via natural conception or ART. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I have a special interest in miscarriage & recurrent loss. I've suffered loss myself (many years ago) & it was devastating. Around that time I needed answers. It's something I hear from so many of my clients. It's overwhelming. It's so easy to feel lost. You want a roadmap. You want support. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ We work together to reduce your personal risk factors using lots of detective work, nutrition, lifestyle & testing - & we dig deep. We consider hormone balance, reproductive microbiome issues (vaginal & seminal), immunity, genetics - anything that could be causing dysfunction. It's about the individual & working out what's right for YOU - to support your fertility & overall health.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ During my years of clinical practice I've had the honour of supporting hundreds of clients. I'm passionate about education & guest lecture @ion_nutrition (where I trained) & mentor other practitioners. I work with an amazing network of consultants, doctors, acupuncturists & proud to be part of the brilliant @fertility.nutrition.centre⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ So this is me⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 💖 I now have 3 daughters: 13,15 & 17. I adore them & they drive me nuts in equal measure (there are ALOT of hormones flying around our house)⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣💖 I'm a dog person. We have a spinone. His name is Sid & our morning walks set me up each & every day⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 💖 I love cake! Not every day; but a weekend with afternoon tea is a happy weekend indeed!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣💖 Before nutrition I worked in telly as a drama producer. I loved it but my own fertility issues sowed the seed for something else & I took the plunge & retrained⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ So here I am.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Thank you for being here 💖 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Love, Alison xx

Epa o corpo humano, principalmente de mulher, me fascina! Adivinhem a minha solução... #treinar #gravida #fit #experiencia #primeirotrimestre #dicas #enjoo #sono #estadoemocional #mulher #angola #ginasio #treino #academia #portugal

  3. VEGANUARY ‘21 🌱 A new year that kind of feels the same, right? There’s hope on the horizon but, let’s be honest, it’s pretty hard going still. So I’m going to share what’ll be an unpopular opinion with some - the last thing anyone needs right now is people telling them to ‘go vegan’. Seriously. And the irony of having just said that on an account I made for vegan food is not lost on me. If we can all make more conscious choices in all aspects of our lives then great! For our health, for the planet, for the animals etc. But I’m not going to add something else to add to a ‘should be doing’ list for anyone. (I try and often fail to ban that word from my thoughts). You may know one of my foodie heroes is Nigella Lawson. Allow me to indulge in sharing just some of her many words of wisdom with you: “No one should feel guilty about what they eat, or the pleasure they get form eating it; the only thing to feel guilty about is the failure to be grateful for that pleasure.Taking pleasure in the food we eat is an act of gratitude. And truly, the world is not always rich in occasions of joy.” There’s so much I admire in these words. Eat HOW you want. WHAT you want. Take JOY from it, especially in troubled times. I know that I am fortunate in these difficult times to have cupboards stocked and food on my plate. Even more a reason to make conscious choices about the food we eat and how we cook it. I make no apologies for choosing to eat how I want, and share recommendations of what might turn out to be a new option or recipe for you all. But I will not be telling anyone to go vegan this January. You’re right, this hasn’t always been my stance, but I think it’s fair to say my relationship with food has changed, like many things, over the past 12 months. No longer will I feel bad for eating food that makes me feel good, and that feeling of good for me often starts with a few cobbled together leftovers and a spark of an idea and ends of with a moment of calm savoured over a bowl of something delicious in the storm of these strange times. So this veganuary I will be sharing with you foodie finds, new recipes and a healthy dose of reality in these little squares ❤️
