  1. It took me almost 40 years to feel comfortable claiming my heritage. My grandad is Jamaican. Unlike many who left during the Windrush era, he returned home to take care of our family and plant the seeds he’d gathered in England back into Jamaican soil. In doing so, he sacrificed a life alongside his wife, sons, and grandchildren. I grew up white-presenting and felt I wasn’t Jamaican enough to share this part of my heritage because of how I look. When people don’t see your identity the way you experience it, it can make you feel like you have to constantly explain yourself… or stay quiet. For years, I stayed quiet but i now just want to encourage my understanding to th difference between Heritage, ethnicity, nationality, skin colour, white privalage and cultural capital. 1. The discomfort i feel often comes from the white privilege i held. We should Carry it with responsibility, awareness, empathy, and a commitment to advocate for others. 2. The idea that you can be “¼ something” as if identity is a maths equation is a racial construct. Heritage isn’t measured like that. 3. Cultural capital your ethnicity and identity — is shaped by lived experience with your family and community. 4. A friend once told me: “Growing up in a room full of your family while looking like the oppressor requires unpacking.” That stayed with me. 5. Understanding your triggers matters. Maybe it was the jokes about not fitting in. Maybe you joined the humour to protect yourself. Maybe there was resentment around the privilege you carried. Or maybe the uncertainty around you made certain spaces feel complicated. But one thing became clear to me: You owe it to your grandparents to carry their legacy — and to own your heritage with conviction and authenticity. Do it with confidence along side responsibility of your privilege. .   1. Don’t be afraid to start all over: running. If you scroll down on my page you’ll see a lot of running going on. Especially if you look prior to 2020. I ran often, I did races, marathons and I loved it. Then there were health challenges. I knew it would impact my fitness but am also stubborn and optimistic (or naive and ignorant?) resulting in some disappointments. It’s time to see the truth; my body was in recovery mode for 1.5 year. Long enough to not build nor maintain fitness levels. So the natural result is that my fitness levels are lower. And as I was an average runner, I’m currently somewhere near a beginning runner. And that’s fine. I had other priorities, bigger priorities (health should always be a bigger priority). Now that I’m fully recovered it’s time to rearrange the priorities again and running will be involved. Although with realistic expectations this time. Well, Greece is not the other side of the world but it is definitely warmer than it is in London. This acclimatisation run was fun and is a good starting point to get used to the warmer weather ☀️

  2. ANOTHER clear scan in the bag! I’m meant to have scans every 3 months but this one was very late…almost 10 months between scans and the anxiety never leaves. But THANK the flippin UNIVERSE all is well with this body of mine and soon, I get to see my Ivy LEAVE primary school. There was a time I didn’t know if I’d even get to see her start. I am so utterly grateful for this life of mine and I’m sending so much hope to those out there who feel like there’s none. Keep going!   3. Our beautiful Mum. She lived through three of her children going through cancer treatment. The despair she felt 💔 but she was always ADAMANT we would be okay. She would put her hands on the side of my bad boob and on my neck every time she gave me a hug, using her healing magic to take it away ✨ For cancer to come back and take our Mummy - and so quickly, is the cruellest mind fucking fuck of all 🥺 The waves of grief are flowing for us all at the mo. This week we've been celebrating her smashing her A Levels & securing her first choice place at Birmingham University to read drama & film next September - taking a year out first to have loads of adventures! Houve uma altura em que ouvi tanto de outras mães "tens de descansar, esta é uma fase muito delicada, não podes andar a levantar pesos nem a mexer muito, deves ficar de cama ou sofá" mas ouvi tanto que como mãe de primeira viagem com pouca pesquisa ainda, decidi cancelar a minha inscrição no ginásio por 3-4 semanas. Foram as piores semanas seguifits!! - Os meus níveis de energia 📉 - A dor pélvica então foi a pior coisa, porque nunca tinha sentido esse tipo de dor antes. E ao dormir! Que era o pior, deitava-me e não conseguia dormir de tanta dor. - Dor de costas e dificuldade de sentar e sair bem do sofá. - Não conseguia subir bem as escadas como uma pessoa normal sem ter de parar a cada degrau porque estava sem fôlego. Ao tomar banho também era a mesma coisa, tinha de me deitar na cama de toalha para "descansar" já que a atividade de shower cansou-me ao extremo. Epa o corpo humano, principalmente de mulher, me fascina! Adivinhem a minha solução... Falei com as midwifes e 3 delas, todas com mais de um filho, treinaram durante alguma altura nas últimas gravidez delas e desde então não olhei para trás. A recomendação foi, se já treinas com regularidade a anos, continua. A partir desse momento até hoje já entrevistei muitas mulheres, grávidas de primeira viagem, outras já mães e grávidas novamente, já li muitos livros, li muitos artigos de medicina, estudei resultados científicos e todos validam a minha experiência. É de facto importante apontar aqui que esta é uma área de pesquisa recente comparada com casos de mulheres que não treinam durante a gestação desde o início dos tempos, MAS estou confiante que estou a fazer o que é certo para mim porque logo que parei o meu corpo me deu uma tareia. TÁS PARVA? NÃO QUERIAS SER MÃE FIT?? VAI ENTÃO TREINAR! Lá fui eu 🤡 e digo-vos uma última coisinha, DOMs de grávida...
