  1. Yesterday I found myself wondering why women in their 60s looked so old when I was a small child?... and I don't think it was just because I was very young. In the early 1960s, according to the UK government's Office of National Statistics, the life expectancy of a woman was just over 70... plastic surgery was the preserve of the hyper rich... clothes for older women were often defined as age suitable and designed for invisibility. But somehow in 2026 the narrative of age appropriate dressing hasn't gone away...the slur of 'mutton dressed as lamb'...the internet's need to criticize women's clothing choices...the fear of being judged for 'dressing too young '...all of this still has power. Born in the early 1960s, my life expectancy is almost 90 and I have a 1 in 4 chance of living to 95... It's hardly surprising that I don't feel old ...that I don't want to dress for invisibility. Age appropriate dressing is a nonsense term... designed to make women smaller...more fearful of taking up space.. It can be very easy, if you spend time on social media, to feel as if everybody else has a life of wild excitement, lives in a beautifully curated home and wears stylishly, well put together outfits all the time...this is me this weekend...I've stayed at home, seen nobody ( I have work to do) and worn the same clothes for the last 2 days and haven't felt any need to put on makeup. My outfit is informed less by any idea of style and more to deal with a house where the main form of heating is a coal fire in one room...I'm wearing many layers 😆 One of the trends I really liked in 2025 was normalizing ordinary lives and ordinary homes.. people showing up authentically...a resistance to the hype curation, hyper consumption of some parts of social media ..I really hope it continues in 2026 and beyond.. The more of us that share our ordinary lives...our pragmatic outfits..our home with dog toys in the corner and clutter of the everyday..the more we normalize real lives. If your social media feed is full of images that make you feel that you're not good enough...that your life isn't good enough...that your home isn't good enough..the problem isn't you..it's judging ourselves against impossible hyper curation. In my life,I've known maybe 3 stunningly beautiful people and when I first met them it was what I noticed, but once I knew them well, I got used to it and their beauty became the least interesting thing about them. When we talk about our friends and the people in our lives, it's their passions and interests and what they do that we focus on...their appearance is rarely in the mix. The fashion and beauty industries work hard to try and convince us that the way our bodies look is the metric by which we should judge ourselves and how we are judged...but the ageing journey is teaching me that it's my body's functionality that matters...the good luck of health, of our bodies being able to do what we want/need to do. This is what I wore yesterday, because it's very hot in the UK at the moment...the so-called aesthetics were not a deciding factor 😆. All of this is a very long winded way of saying..your body is fine...wear what you want...the judgement of strangers only carries weight if we allow it to. The relationship I have with my body, and my clothes, is still really complex… Like most, I am working on undoing years of harmful rhetoric and learning I am very happy now, but it’s taken an insane amount of work, mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. I hope this reaches as many people as possible… I give you permission to dress for yourself, dress for joy, dress for happiness, dress for fun, and not for flattering…do you give YOURSELF permission?   2. Holy moly 😯 What a time holiday week was. Absolutely and completely overwhelmed with the reaction to these. Whenever I'm feeling down I'm just going to watch the judging on repeat. Quite a few people have asked what pattern I used to make these trousers but I'm afraid I can't send you the link as it doesn't exist! 💔 These came to be from many different inspiration sources and a lot of trial and error. I've had a wee dream about trousers like these in the back of my mind for a long time so the stars aligned to make them a reality on @britishsewingbee. With having a big Japanese influence I wasn't sure they would feel Riviera enough and that I'd be told I went on a mad tangent. Couldn't have been more wrong and I'm so glad I managed to squash those feelings of doubt and see this concept through to the standard I envisaged! ✨ Such an insane confidence boost, this honestly means the world 🥹💖 And I'm sorry to disappoint but ain't nobody getting a pair until I complete X2 very important commissions for a couple of very discerning customers @patrickgrantism + @miss_esme_young. Details and thoughts on my @thebargelloedit quilted vest… ✨bought this fabric with no clue what to make however this apricot and black combo spoke to me ✨ pattern is the @newcrafthouse Everyday Waistcoat ✨ I used some cotton linen from my stash and this gorgeous fabric from @thebargelloedit as the 2nd fabric, quilting both layers with some wadding. ✨ following the patterned fabric when quilting I think worked a treat. It gives a lovely effect on the outer fabric ✨ hand sewing the binding and French seaming was worth it, it’s given it a great finish and makes it fully reversible ✨ I wasn’t sure id wear a quilted vest but let me tell you, I’ve lived in it since making it and I will for sure be making another ✨no regrets making it in black… the versatility and styling options are endless. ✨ My fellow bees @miasartyfarty @thebettysilk & @tonyr.maker as well as other accounts I’ve seen later really inspired this make. ✨ head over to @thebargelloedit now… the fabric collection has a limited run and is having a massive sale as we speak. Somethings been cooking for the past 5 months 👀🤰🏻 Getting dressed with my new growing bump was definitely a challenge to begin with, my biggest tip to anyone also going through this would be to buy “normal” clothes in larger sizes, instead of buying maternity clothes. This way I’m still able to find things that suit my personal style and might also work after the baby is born! And of course buy second hand instead of buying new, almost everything worn here is thrifted or vintage to give you an idea! Also no shade to legging lovers lol I just still want to try to dress like myself for as long as possible! I feel like I’m sharing all my secrets with you talking about this one, but actually considering it comes up on google I think it’s probably well known but I personally feel like it doesn’t get the credit it deserves! A gorgeous man made pool, gorgeous views from the pool and actually no climbing down rocks or risking life to get to it. If you’re new to tidal pools this would 100% be the one to visit.   2. Little squirrel watcher 🐯🌷 Last Friday I had the AstraZeneca covid19 vaccine. I was invited early because of my health issues and how I’ve reacted to viruses in the past. I’m relieved that for once I didn’t have to fight for healthcare. I know not everyone has been as lucky as me, so many with a similar diagnosis/or disability who have been shielding are being told they can’t get vaccinated yet. I’m really sorry if that’s what’s happened to you, I hope you won’t have to wait long. Since getting the jab I’ve not been on here much due to the side effects. I felt very unwell for the first few days as expected. I still have some lingering symptoms. I’ve noticed this isn’t that uncommon for people with similar health issues for a week after so I’m just resting and hoping it will go soon. 🤞🏻

  3. I made a new dress 🧵 🪡 💃 I wanted to make a dress that could be smart enough to wear to work, but also fun enough to wear in my spare time. I was after a fabric with a black background so it would go well with back tights and I love this viscose I found from @lamazifabrics . The pattern is combo of two, plus a few hacks. I used the @deer_and_doe_patterns #myosotisdress , lengthened the main skirt piece, shortened the bottom skirt piece, took the bodice in to be fitted and added a side zip. I also hacked the pockets so that they attach to the waist seam as I hate flappy side seam pockets. Lastly, I used the sleeve from the v8772 shirt, which I hacked to have more volume at the cuff. I like it so much I even wore it for a work from home day, as a new dress deserves to be worn!
