  3. lil life/pregnancy update: i have gestational diabetes (GD) this time around 😭 aka goodbye to most carbs and sugar until i give birth! it feels like a particularly sad thing to develop after 20 weeks of extreme nausea and then only 10 weeks of enjoying food again. it’s been more emotional for me than i anticipated but im a week in and starting to feel a bit better about things. im getting better at poking my finger 4x/day and not missing carbs and sugar as much but its still really hard and lots of unknowns ahead, but i guess that’s just life anyway. will def share more as i go along and what things im eating because its been hard to find other people with GD who are also vegan

  2. Consumerism drives discontentment. Suddenly old kitchen tools, materials from your recycling bin and a tipped over storage bin aren’t enough - you need a water table, maybe a wooden one. Suddenly your house doesn’t feel like home - you need wallpaper, you need pops of color, you need that one thing you saw on Pinterest. Suddenly the old toys that are played with daily aren’t enough - you need whatever toy that influencer has for her kid, after all she just seems like the perfect mother right? Suddenly your kids old hand me down clothes aren’t cute enough - you need organic cotton sets, limited edition t-shirts and barefoot shoes. Suddenly your clothes all suck - you need barrel jeans, you need to lose weight, you need a new haircut or the spring wardrobe you saw on TikTok shop. You get my point. I’m far from perfect but I’m definitely trying to actively fight against the need for things that function to suddenly be pretty or perfect. Obviously I buy stuff. I sold a ton of clothes that aren’t nursing friendly on Poshmark and bought linen pieces from a spring collection from my favorite Linen brand that would be perfect for pregnancy and the next few years of nursing. Did I NEED them? No. Will I beat myself up for buying something I want that was within my budget? No. We are all adults here so we don’t have to explain our spending to anyone. However, we cannot deny that social media drives consumerism, and consumerism almost always leads to discontentment.

I totally agree that we should all make our clothing last as long as possible, regardless of where we bought it from. That said, the rhetoric creates a false dichotomy since it's so unlikely that people buying from slow fashion brands are disposing of their clothing regularly. It's a financial investment! And even if someone is buying a lot from slow fashion brands, I bet it's still in circulation (resold, swapped, etc) after it's let go, unlike fast fashion. I will never shame people for making ends meet and it's absolutely true that lower income folks are more sustainable by necessity. But this viral post going around makes it seem like you can either buy fast fashion & make it last, or overconsume from slow fashion brands, and there's so much in between that's way more sustainable. Sustainability is not only about how you treat your clothing, but also materials, our health, garment workers, and supporting better systems. #slowfashionmovement #fastfashion

  2. It took me a decade to finally clean out my high school closet, and it was one of my most watched videos to date. People want to know how to get rid of their clothing responsibly, especially when 80% of clothing donated to thrift stores is trashed or dumped abroad. Some of the programs I mentioned in my first video have changed—for example, Subset no longer has free underwear recycling, and Trashie no longer has a sustainable brand marketplace to use your recycling credits on. So, here's what I'd do differently! Also a reminder to love the clothes you have and keep them as long as possible ❤️ Too often donating is used as a justification for overconsumption, but sometimes you do need to pass clothing on, and this is how I do it when I have to do it in bulk.   1. have been a big fan of making various barks lately - ok i’ve tried two lol, cookie dough bark and strawb/pb/chocolate bark, but i loveddd em and have made them both a handful of times, so i obviously had to try the snickers bark that all the kids are making and it did nottttt disappoint. salty, sweet, crunchy, chewy - it is insaaaane. didn’t taste exactly like a snickers, bc you’re missing the best part which is obviously nougat. but it is veryyyy good. it’s real simple: pit and cut dates in half, smush em on a baking sheet lined w wax paper or parchment paper, spread some drizzly peanut butter over (costco brand is my fav), separately melt a cup of choc chips with a lil spoonful of coconut oil and some vanilla bean paste, spread chocolate on and sprinkle w flaky salt! i froze it for like an hour and chopped it up and am keeping it in a container in the fridge!

  2. dyeing my clothes with black @ritdye so I wear them more often - plus how long I kept each item in the dye bath ⏱️ which was your fav transformation?? dye info: 💯 all three items were 100% cotton 🌈 most thread used in fashion is polyester (synthetic) so it will not take the dye as well as the cotton material 💧 soak your items in warm water FULLY before putting them into the dye for a more even color on the fabric ✨ I used Rit Colorstay after the black dye and the color held up way better after the first wash than past dye projects #ritdye #ritdyethatshit #slowfashion #sustainablefashionblogger

  2. Remember yesterday’s outfit - well this is the same but switched up a few things. For me I have to be able to wear the same item multiple ways - that’s how they gain entry into my closet. Switched out the men’s blazer for this incredible lace dress/duster! It can be worn buttoned up or open as I have worn it here. I added a hair scarf to break up the cream and give a pop of color/print. The bag adds texture and I love the shape. Lastly the sandals - decided on these platform wedge buttery soft leather.   3. LAYERING ~ is something that brings me comfort! I think it’s because my past winters were so brutally cold in upstate NY that I mastered it to my liking. It’s about playing and cinching and at times tucking! Here’s how I love to tweak things when I layer. Of course I could always use a belt but there’s just those days when I don’t feel like wearing a belt. I simply tucked my Muu slightly into my bloomers and layered my butterfly top that cinches and gives the draping I am going for. WELP this post has a ton of text but hopefully you all can find this info useful! 💗 It’s not a perfect system, but I think it’s a huge improvement from a single fit that’s actually graded on a women’s size chart only! (Or what some folks do *I believe*, say a design is “unisex” by using a men’s sizing chart instead!) There’s a lot of complexities surrounding this, but this is the method I’ve found best so far to make my designs more inclusive.
