  3. Consumerism drives discontentment. Suddenly old kitchen tools, materials from your recycling bin and a tipped over storage bin aren’t enough - you need a water table, maybe a wooden one. Suddenly your house doesn’t feel like home - you need wallpaper, you need pops of color, you need that one thing you saw on Pinterest. Suddenly the old toys that are played with daily aren’t enough - you need whatever toy that influencer has for her kid, after all she just seems like the perfect mother right? Suddenly your kids old hand me down clothes aren’t cute enough - you need organic cotton sets, limited edition t-shirts and barefoot shoes. Suddenly your clothes all suck - you need barrel jeans, you need to lose weight, you need a new haircut or the spring wardrobe you saw on TikTok shop. You get my point. I’m far from perfect but I’m definitely trying to actively fight against the need for things that function to suddenly be pretty or perfect. Obviously I buy stuff. I sold a ton of clothes that aren’t nursing friendly on Poshmark and bought linen pieces from a spring collection from my favorite Linen brand that would be perfect for pregnancy and the next few years of nursing. Did I NEED them? No. Will I beat myself up for buying something I want that was within my budget? No. We are all adults here so we don’t have to explain our spending to anyone. However, we cannot deny that social media drives consumerism, and consumerism almost always leads to discontentment.

  1. Here’s the second part of the Zegna set I made for myself! I made this shirt as a little good luck charm for my thesis defense, and it once again reminded me how much I love making special garments for special occasions. I have a massive crush on this fabric, it has the most beautiful green - reddish brown shift to it that I’ve never seen before on a linen. I was worried that the shift wouldn’t show up on camera but I think we managed to capture it! I documented the making of this shirt on my stories (which are now saved under the Zegna Shirt highlight) and also did some fabric-detective-work to see how they achieved this stunning colour shift - I would highly recommend checking it out, I still think it’s SO cool! And before you ask - I unfortunately purchased this fabric as a remnant from my local fabric store, so I have no idea where else it would be available :( For the pattern I used my favourite semi-fitted shirt pattern, the #MSClassicShirt from @modern_sewing_co. This is a size 10 (based on my high bust measurement) with the neckline graded down to a size 6. I challenged myself not to use an overlocker once more, so I flat felled side seams and sleeve inseams by machine, and the armscyes by hand. My shoulders can be hard to fit so it’s extra satisfying when something fits this well. The flat felling also gives some extra structure which I absolutely love. Can we make #ShoulderEuphoria a thing? Cause it’s totally a thing! I love pretty much everything I make, but I *LOVE* this shirt. Everything from the seam finishes and fit to the fabric and cut makes this piece feel incredibly luxurious. I added a little homemade tag that says MS (for Master of Science) to the inside yoke to remember why I made this shirt in a decade :’) I’m so excited to wear both the shirt and the trousers for years to come, they have both become instant favourites in my wardrobe.   2. The new collection from @deer_and_doe_patterns is finally out! I had the privilege of testing and reviewing all three patterns before they are released, and I’ve been dying to show them to you all! My blog post with reviews of all the patterns is now live on my website, you can find a link to it in my stories and in my bio. Because I can’t possibly talk about all three patterns in one feed post, I’ll split it in two. This post will go over the Fougère overshirt (#ddFougere) , and the next one (which I’ll likely put up in a couple of days) will go over the Genet pants / shorts and the Hysope crop top. The Fougère shirt comes with two views (a long overshirt and a cropped lightweight jacket) and in two size ranges (EU 34-48 and 46-60) going up to a 147 cm / 57 7/8” bust. I made a straight size 34, which was the closest size to my full bust measurement. Deer and Doe patterns are drafted for a height of 168 cm / 5’6” and I’m 163 cm / 5’4”, but my arms are quite long for my height so I didn’t have to shorten them at all. I also kept the length as it was, because I love having my overshirts on the longer side. For fabric I used this stunning, super lightweight, undyed linen I found at my local fabric store. It’s really fluid and soft, making this the perfect summer overshirt. Because I went with a lighter fabric, I can also comfortably tuck the shirt in, doubling its use in my wardrobe! You all know how much I love classic shirt patterns with fun twists, and this is exactly how I would describe the Fougère. It has all the traditional details you would expect from a button up shirt, plus really cool three-piece sleeves, sleeve vents instead of plackets, and a beautiful curved hemline finished with a facing. I also threw in a couple of touches like double topstitching throughout the shirt, flat felled side seams, and hand finished collar stand and cuffs. I love Deer and Doe instructions, and this pattern was no exception. I learned a new way of sewing the collar stand and I much prefer it to my usual method! Overall, I can wholeheartedly recommend this pattern to anyone who is looking for a new overshirt pattern to try. [ID in comments, alt-text embedded.]

  3. When the lovely folks over at @atelierbrunette offered me to test their new Vichy collection I immediately got a vision of a 40’s-50’s inspired, summery dad shirt! Think a big camp collar with generous lapels, an oversized fit, and fell fitted shoulders with short sleeves that are on the longer side. Tuck it into some high waisted, pleated trousers and *chef’s kiss* To fulfil ✨my vision✨ I decided to mashup two of my favourite patterns: the body and the sleeves of the #MSClassicShirt from @modern_sewing_co (max bust 138 cm/54”) and the collar / center front extension area of the #GilbertTop from @helenscloset (max bust 147.5 cm/58”)! I made a few further modifications like straightening out the side seams, cropping the length, and shortening the sleeves and I had my perfect summer-dad shirt. Now the real fun began when I started working with this fabric. It’s a double gauze cotton with two different scales of gingham on the two sides! I chose to make the lapel facings, the back yoke and the collar out of the smaller scale, and the rest of the shirt out of the larger scale. It was my first time working with a double gauze fabric so I decided to go all out with the construction of this shirt and experiment with a bunch of new-to-me techniques. I documented the entire making process on my stories, which are all saved under the Double Gingham highlight - don’t forget to check it out! I wanted to challenge myself and not use my overlocker for this project - don’t get me wrong, I love my overlocker but I don’t like feeling dependent on it to beautifully finish the insides of my garments. Instead I finished all the seams with hand sewn flat felled seams, and I can’t tell you how proud I am of the insides of this shirt. I have a feeling this will become my preferred method for shirt-making moving on 💛 I included some photos of it worn inside out so you can see why I feel this way :D The buttons are matching ones from @atelierbrunette, it’s their classic matte buttons in the 10 mm size. This was such a fun challenge, and now I have the itch to make more shirts with beautiful insides! [ID in comments, alt-text embedded.]

  1. The Rosemary Robe Inspired by 1850s women’s dressing gowns, this beautiful beast of a robe is finally finished, I think. I may add some more ruffles to the sleeves. I spent a long time at my kitchen table making this and looking at the rosemary plant across the table from me, I would rub the leaves between my fingers and while I was sewing I would get hints of the scent. Details! Self drafted pattern, 20 yards of second hand dead-stock cotton, 25 antique shell buttons, every edge roll-hemmed and/or French seamed, probably around 50 hours of machine stitching and 10 more of hand stitching.   2. I will take any excuse I can get to dress up like a princess! My friends and I were going to go to sword fighting at banded brewing last night but there were too many other lads and lasses who also craved violence. I think that means we need more sword fighting events 😁 I made this dress for Halloween last year and made a matching henin but it makes me so tall where I have to do the limbo to get through doors! I opted for my escoffion I made to match my vaguely 16th century yellow dress. For this project I looked at primary sources for women’s fashion in the early 15th century, I loved the long opulent sleeves and the silhouette of popular court dresses in the 1410s-1430s in France. I made a chemise out of a sheer cotton gauze, and used the same self drafted pattern for the gown but added shaping though the back lacing. Lots of hand sewing for the lace up closure along the back and lots of piecing my material because I didn’t have lots of yardage. As the kids say, piecing is period! Obviously this look isn’t very historically accurate, but I don’t live in 1420 so I can do what I want 😗

WELP this post has a ton of text but hopefully you all can find this info useful! 💗 It’s not a perfect system, but I think it’s a huge improvement from a single fit that’s actually graded on a women’s size chart only! (Or what some folks do *I believe*, say a design is “unisex” by using a men’s sizing chart instead!) There’s a lot of complexities surrounding this, but this is the method I’ve found best so far to make my designs more inclusive. The relationship I have with my body, and my clothes, is still really complex… Like most, I am working on undoing years of harmful rhetoric and learning I am very happy now, but it’s taken an insane amount of work, mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. And I still have days where the work I’ve put in is just not enough to quiet my inner critic I WISH I had known to size up, go baggy, and ignore the size on the label so much earlier. If I’d have let go of flattering earlier, it would have saved me so much trauma, so much negative self image, and ultimately money… So let me be the one to tell you; baggy clothes are not the enemy, your clothes making you look as small as possible is not the goal, buying a bigger size does not undo your self worth, flattering is a concept you can let go of… If anything, buying a bigger size is what makes my wardrobe feel curated and cool because there’s more shape to play with! I hope this reaches as many people as possible… I give you permission to dress for yourself, dress for joy, dress for happiness, dress for fun, and not for flattering…do you give YOURSELF permission? It’s been such a journey for me, to find this sort of style, and it has truly changed the game…and really it’s not about style, it’s about letting go of what I believed to be the “right way” to dress for my body & what was most appealing and appeasing to anyone else but myself… My style changes daily (although I am firmly in jumper and jeans phase, with a lorra blue!), and I am not one style - and that’s ok too! Dressing should be fun, and play and expression! [PATTERN IS OUT] ♡ tester call ♡ link in my bio! 🔗 ++ tysm to @ambrochet for helping me with some design decisions and for @softlymadecottage for inspiring the shape of this bag 🥺💕 introducing the bag of my dreams 💭 the nuit étoilée bag! 🌃 because i have the creativity of a goldfish, i decided to translate “starry night” in french (because i’ve been trying to learn french) to name this bag! the painting on the bag is the starry night by vincent van gogh that doubles as a pocket :3 vincent van gogh is an artist who had a troubling life filled with turmoil and despair whose art was not appreciated by the people of his time. his story has truly given me a deeper appreciation for his art and the way i see people’s art. like him, artists use art as a creative outlet for their emotions and this even translates to crochet. crochet, like painting, is a form of art where people just let out their creativity, joys, frustrations, etc. this is honestly why this piece means more to me than just a regular bag with a crochet painting on it 🖼 and i hope this will remind all of us that even if the people around us might not see the value in our art, we should never lose ourselves to conform to the norms of society. the testing phase will start next week (since im currently writing the pattern still) and will end in 2-3 weeks but is flexible to the testers. if most of the testers finish earlier, we can move up the deadline but most are not finished, we can push the deadline further. materials: 🖌 yarn (any type, i used milk cotton) 🖌 3.5 mm hook 🖌 optional - canvas cloth (or any type of lining/cloth, i recommend canvas mesh) 🖌 optional - ribbon 🖌 needle and thread (to sew the lining and ribbon) 🖌 darning needle 🖌 scissors 🏷 tags: #crochetersofphilippines #crochetphilippines #philippinescrochet #wip #crochet #crochettop #crochetpattern #crochetfashion #crochetwear #crochetwearables #makesomethingeveryday #makers #makerssingapore #crochetbag #crochetsociety #crochetgram #crochetcommunity #crochetinspiration #crochetlife #crochetersofinstagram #crochet #craftsposure #crochetallday #aesthetic #testercall #supportlocalsg #crochetproject #patterntest

Knit in 100% cashmere (nigh fine by @purlsoho ), my veil, sleeves and the bouquet ribbon were the perfect set made to elevate my dress. It was the perfect fiber for a special occasion on a spring day 🤍 And talk about a color match!! Knitting this Shetland lace veil was such an amazing and memorable way to show my commitment.   2. 🪼 The Jelly Top 🪼 [The Jelly Top pattern is now available! Link in bio 🥳] I am so excited to finally share this project!! After months of trial and error (lots of error), this top has finally come to life 🥹💚 This texture reminds me of Jellyfish, hence the name. I bought this yarn last year at Flock festival in Seattle. It’s @oshenknitsandfibres Silk Mohair in the color Golden Kelp. The pattern is still in development - I’ll be looking for testers mid September 😉

  3. I’m knitting 3 pieces for my wedding outfit in 3 months! Week 7✨ This week was tough 😭 working on the veil feels like such a slog and the cardigan didn’t turn out the way that I wanted it to (my fault, not the pattern). I found an alternate outfit for the courthouse wedding next week and I swatched for the next piece in the series so hopefully this week I can get back on track!! Wish me luck!
