This project started as a way for me to rest and recover from overwhelm and became such a source of comfort and joy for me.   3. Will I ever get bored of squishy garter triangles? Unlikely. There really is something so special about knitting these little colourful moments of joy. So satisfying and calming, I will truly never get sick of them. If you have enjoyed the Sweet Shop Blanket then the Stella Collection is a step up, still the same satisfaction but slightly more challenging. The cushion is designed for Aran and DK with 2 motifs and closure options, perfect for scrap and advent knitting. The blanket will be DK (though easily modified for other weights) and designed in a ‘choose your own adventure’ style with seamed and modular instructions. The #stellaquiltcushion test knit is in it’s final stages now and you can expect the pattern in the next few weeks! The blanket version is still in development and will enter testing very soon as well, the pattern will be ready early 2024! When the 1940s meets Victorian…with a touch of 1930s drama By special request I’ve created this jacket with cables, a peplum, and the specific sleeves from the 1930s pattern for “Annie’s Jacket” in my book … the ones that stand up with a life of their own ! I drew a on 4 different vintage patterns to create the jacket and hand knitted in a modern 4 ply. The Quarter Wheel and Spines sections are #knitted in a striking spectrum of #naturaldyedyarn by @woollenflower (for which you can pop over to her shop for kits). The #natural #undyed black, white and grey are #garthenorronas from @garthenor, used for the Mitre Stripes (black and white) and External Curve (grey).   3. ROW/ROUND - after yesterday’s frogging, the bottom edge is getting and extra 3cm of #corrugatedribbing and a 2-row/round striped #icordbindoff. So far it seems to not be flipping up at all, which is good news. I’m never sure whether I want to call it a row or round when it comes to #icord, so I tend go with row/round. It’s #knitted as a row, but makes a round. In any case, I’m enjoying the ‘yucky’ combination of auburn and dirty dirty yellow.

  1. Today I turn 30 and I could not feel more humble and grateful. Ten years ago, I was moving to London and stepping for the very first time into the fashion industry. My mind is blown away by all the things that have happened since… It takes so many lows to enjoy the highs, so many ‘No’s to cherish the ‘Yes’s - and I don’t know what the future holds, but I cannot wait to keep learning, to face many more challenges, to meet many more talented and wonderful people, to keep growing as a brand and as a person. I got my daisy maker, or daisy knitter, off eBay but I've seen modern recreations on Etsy. I'm using 4ply yarn from @camarosedk. If you choose a thicker yarn you might only need to wrap each spoke once. Likewise if you use thinner yarn 3 times might be better. The daisy blouse has been coming along nicely but of course these things are never straightforward... I don't often get sassy over such things because 1 minute is never enough time to go into the nuance of bigger issues like the ethics of high fashion so inevitably people will misinterpret what you say, often wilfully for the sake of their own ego.... BUT, the implication that crochet is a lesser art form than couture sewing really got my goat. And to imply that I'm just a silly little crocheter who doesn't know what they're talking about really riled me up. I could honestly write an essay on this topic, and as I am also a fashion historian I could also get that essay published in an academic journal if I so wished. But I don't want to do that. Because I have found that sort of academic institution to be elitist, ableist and out of touch. I'd rather we had an informed discussion here, where it is accessible to almost everyone, than write a paper that will be read by probably 50 people tops. But the issue with talking about these things in public internet forums is that the general abandonment of social etiquette we so often see online will inevitably enter the discussion. I think this person has misunderstood what I mean. Fair enough. I was deliberately being sensationalist for the sake of views. That's how the internet works. These short form video formats in particular thrive off of that stuff. But I also feel they are misinformed about how fashion works at the highest level. I accept I might be wrong about some things, this is not my area of interest or expertise after all. But to publicly put me down, whilst simultaneously reinforcing many of the misguided ideals I try to challenge here about the sexism, elitism and prejudice of the fashion industry is just petty and annoying. I wouldn't have responded if I didn't have a point to make. Crochet is just as much of an art form as 'couture'. If you're making your own crochet/knitting/sewing patterns, testing them, toileing them, refining them, altering them to be exactly how you want them and getting them to fit as fits your vision of the piece, then that's couture. You deserve that title just as much as a dead, white, French man, or a Nazi-sympathiser woman. WHOEVER YOU ARE. Continued in comments ⤵️

  1. I love a shirt dress and I really love all of the details on my latest one. Especially the ruffle on the collar, the princess seamed bodice and the gathered skirt with flat front panel detail 💙 The pattern is the Saraste shirt dress by Named Clothing. I think it’s a really pretty pattern! I’ve made this version in this beautiful Fabric Godmother cotton lawn. I think it’s such a lovely shade of blue and I love the pops of orange and peach in the florals. Here’s a full photo of my Saraste shirt dress 💙 Thanks so much for all of the love for this one on my previous post 😍Now for the details on sizing and adjustments… I made a size 6 at the bust and waist and size 8 on the hips. This sizing was based on my measurements for bust & hips. My waist measurement would put me as a size 8 but I sized down one size here as I wanted to make the bodice a little more fitted. I also shortened the skirt from midi length to knee length. Other than that, I scooped a little bit out of the armhole to give a little more room and that’s it. I love sewing a shirt dress and this pattern comes together really nicely.   3. Summer in a dress 🥰 I’ve finally tried the Elodie wrap dress pattern by Closet Core and I love it! It’s a really comfy and pretty wrap dress pattern, which comes together so nicely. I opted for the shorter sleeve, midi length version and made it in a straight size 4 based on my waist measurement. My bust measurement would put me as a size 2 but luckily the size 4 is not too roomy in that area - the pattern is meant to be a bit blousy, with a lovely pleat detail on the bodice. I used some fabric I’d had in my stash for ages with no set plans for (that’s unusual for me as I mostly buy fabric with a specific pattern in mind). It’s a viscose from Rainbow Fabrics with a pretty ditsy floral print including some strawberries too 🌺🌸🍓 I do love sewing a dress and the Elodie dress was really fun to sew. I did make a couple of changes to it - I switched the neckline facing to visible bias binding and I lengthened the dress by 2 inches. I am really happy with how it’s turned out. I feel really good wearing this one and I’d love to try this pattern again. Details and thoughts on my @thebargelloedit quilted vest… ✨bought this fabric with no clue what to make however this apricot and black combo spoke to me ✨ pattern is the @newcrafthouse Everyday Waistcoat ✨ I used some cotton linen from my stash and this gorgeous fabric from @thebargelloedit as the 2nd fabric, quilting both layers with some wadding. ✨ following the patterned fabric when quilting I think worked a treat. It gives a lovely effect on the outer fabric ✨ hand sewing the binding and French seaming was worth it, it’s given it a great finish and makes it fully reversible ✨ I wasn’t sure id wear a quilted vest but let me tell you, I’ve lived in it since making it and I will for sure be making another ✨no regrets making it in black… the versatility and styling options are endless. ✨ My fellow bees @miasartyfarty @thebettysilk & @tonyr.maker as well as other accounts I’ve seen later really inspired this make. ✨ head over to @thebargelloedit now… the fabric collection has a limited run and is having a massive sale as we speak.   3. I can not believe that @yarndale is over for another year. So much work and prep and two solid days of fun, chat, colour, meeting so many wonderful people and it’s gone in a flash!
