  3. 🏅Happy Medal Monday!🏅 This Medal Monday is extra special. I traveled to Antalya to run the @runtalyamarathon half marathon with the amazing @asicsfrontrunner team. The race was beautiful, and the energy was incredible. I met so many amazing new friends who share the same passion. I got a PB in the half marathon, 1:42:31! Not only that, I finished 14th overall in the women’s category and 3rd in my age group. My very first time on the podium! Runtalya is an amazing event that I truly recommend to everyone.   1. I always talk about the amazing effects yoga has had on me mentally, but not about how asana and Breathwork literally healed my physical body. I never thought I’d be talking about my womb in such detail on the internet, but here we go… 3 years ago, after having 2 babies back to back (one of those babies being almost as big as me 🥴) I was diagnosed with uterine prolapse – meaning my pelvic floor could no longer hold my uterus where it should be. With this alongside pelvic separation and Diastasis recti My body felt broken. My periods were unbearable. Months passed, but nothing improved. I was put on the long waiting list for surgery. I was told “You can keep doing yoga, it might help a little, but only surgery will fix this.” I didn’t only keep practicing yoga, I started practicing every single day, morning and night, and started to notice my symptoms improving. Almost a year later, I walked into my pre-op appointment, and came out with news I wasn’t expecting - my body had healed, my body was strong and I no longer needed surgery. Through patience, yoga, and deep trust in my body’s wisdom, I avoided a surgery I thought was inevitable.   2. When I first started going to yoga classes, I thought the goal was to be able to do as many poses as possible, balance on my head and do the splits. As I started to go deeper into my journey, I realised that the purpose of asana (the poses) is to prepare the body for stillness. And that being completely still, whilst trying to have as little thoughts as possible in my mind is actually the most challenging yet transformative practice I’ve experienced. And I’m comfortable saying that too. Over the years people have said “it’s ok for you... you are naturally skinny”, but I’m not - I work hard to keep myself fit & more importantly healthy. I’ve chosen clean eating & fitness to help fuel my body and relax my mind, whilst life with all her twists and turns continues to swirl around me. Over my life, there have many times I’ve been called a show-off, attention seeker or full of myself, just for trying my best or showing expression, skill or talent for something I’d worked hard at. Upon telling a friend that I was having twins, she replied with “of course YOU are”. As if I had been attempting to excel at falling pregnant too, (despite the heartache of IVF & the many losses before the joy). “When women loose themselves, the world loses it’s way.   3. Where it all started. It was May 2022, and the lease had just been signed for 7–9 Fashion Street. The building was raw, dirty, and dangerous — floorboards were missing, rusty nails littered the rotting stairs, and the ceilings had gaping holes in spaces. Before planning permission or power upgrades, before the installation of any windows, showers, walls or lockers, we held our first-ever photo shoot with Mission’s founding teachers. The incredible @emilymergyoga produced the shoot, bringing together a true dream team — photographer @garth_mckee, videographer @kitt_sullivan, makeup artist @nina_sagri, stylist @kellyannhughes, hair stylist @konstantinos_vrettakos, and digital operator Brian Cleaver. The days were long and we shot on the second and third floors, the very spaces that would later become Studios 3 & 4, Cafe Mission and terrace. Filthy floors. Big dreams.

  1. I was chatting with a patient today about Vitamin P. Have you heard of it? I was introduced to this concept at a wellbeing event with the @therechargeroom in Nottingham (thanks girls) ❤️ The 'P' stands for pleasure and serves as a reminder to do at least one thing, every day, that gives you joy. When I made my list, I realised how many simple, small pleasures were on it: making my bed, dancing with my daughter, singing out loud, morning coffee, meditating and running are just a few. At the end of the day I remind myself of my list and I feel much more grateful if I've managed one 'P'. In addition, research shows that practising gratitude will positively affect your mental health. It's a really lovely way to remind yourself that everything starts with you.

  2. ▽ Winter in Chinese Medicine ▽ . The element: water The emotion: fear The organ: the kidneys . We all contain the element of Water within us. When this is balanced, it shows up as feelings of creativity, an abundant flow of ideas, regular menstruation or a gentle menopause, strong bones, good hearing, a healthy libido, balanced sleep and an ability to hear the call to care for ourselves. . To nourish the Water element and the Kidneys: rest, set aside some time to allow yourself to be passive. Eat warm foods, keep your feet covered and keep the whole body warm. Take baths, find water to watch, listen to or swim in. Light candles and incense. Meditate. . To regulate the normal emotion of fear, we need to develop inner resources that we trust and build support networks for times when we need to reach out. If you suffer from panic attacks, anxiety or excess fear this could be a sign that your Kidneys are out of balance or running low on energy. . This time of year can feel long and lonely. But know that through finding some space and time to connect to your quiet voice of love and care, you will hear what it is you need to do to nourish the part of you that needs you most.

  3. When I left the corporate world 12 years ago, I didn’t foresee the place I am in now. I’ve had a child, moved to Bristol, ended my marriage and have spent the last 4 years finding my feet, looking after my girl and keeping my business afloat. . 2018 was a year of real growth for me: I qualified as a Meditation teacher with the @britishschoolofmeditation and as a Yoga Teacher with @camyoga. Both were diplomas and involved in depth study of the philosophy as well as classroom practice - both important elements when learning a skill that doesn’t originate from your culture. . I also qualified as a youth mental health first aider with @elemental_health_uk and became and official volunteer with @OTR Bristol.. . The last 6 months of 2018 became a time of exploring how my work could be more diverse and how I could reach those less able to come and see me privately. I stopped working on a couple of projects and now volunteer as a yoga teacher at my daughter’s school as well as volunteering on a youth ward at the Children’s Hospital in Bristol, supporting the patients aged 11-18 and teaching them mindfulness and meditation skills. . A few weeks ago I decided I need to take some time out of clinic/private practice to consolidate these skills, and pour some energy into the future of The Quiet Heart. I also need to dive into the work of @susannabarkataki and @laylafsaad as well as continuing on @saspetherick ’s Fire Monkeys course. . I also need (and want) a rest. . I’ll be out of clinic until the first full week of spring - which in my opinion should be the actual New Year anyway - and I’ll be using the natural energy of this time of year to help me nourish my own self, ready for the rest of 2019.

  3. 1 YEAR TRANSFORMATION. 💯💥 The last year has been by far my best training year to date. Honed in on my diet, learnt a shit ton about training, splits, movements and nutrition, and seen the most progress overall, in physique and strength, in the 5 years that I've been training. Starting with current physique. Taken a few weeks back, mid lean bulk. Then jumping back to March 2020 (Pre Covid) and working through the last year, landing back at today (Bonus comparison photo at the end). Dates are as follows: 1. March 2021 (Current state) - Mid lean bulk. Eating around 3800 kcals a day now. Plenty of #neatup247 cardio. Couple of runs per week and resistance training 5/6 days a week. Strength has been the biggest improvement for me over this last lockdown. Weighing in at around 82kg. 2. March 2020 (Pre Lockdown 1.0) - One year ago. As you can tell, the previous years travelling had taken its toll on the body 🤣 Weighing in at around 91kg. 3. June 2020 (Post Lockdown 1.0) - After spending the whole of lockdown 1.0 on the push rocket with the aim of dropping 10kg, weighing in at around 86kg. 4. Sept 2020 (Pre Lockdown 2.0) - After a LOT of sessions with @inclusivebootcamp along with plenty of strength training, finally down to goal weight of 81kg. 5. Dec 2020 (Post Lockdown 2.0) - Spent the whole of lockdown 2.0 on a mini-cut, eating around 2400 kcals with the sole purpose of seeing how lean I could get. Weighing 78kg. 6. March 2021 (Mid Lockdown 3.0) - Current state. See number 1. 7. Comparison (Heaviest to Lightest) - March 2020 weighing 91kg ➡️ Dec 2020 weighing 78kg. A little reflection goes a long way. Looking back to see how far you've come makes you realise that the hard work pays off! Take progress pics people! 💥 My training/nutrition knowledge and my determination is only growing and I expect to make more changes this coming year. It'll be slow, it'll be steady, there won't be anywhere near the visual difference that I've seen this last year, but the work will be put in either way! 💪🏼 Only 24 days till the gyms reopen (I'm not counting, you're counting) LET'S DO IT! 🔥

  1. 37 not out (plus a few days). A strange year, full of uncertainty with work and a re-jigging of priorities. The main learning? Balance. Particularly in friendships and relationships. So this is the year of giving what I get. I've spent too long investing time and energy into things that are unbalanced. In recent times I've felt that I give a lot more than I get, and I've decided to stop doing that. This has meant a lot of connections have waned. It's mad how many people drop off when you stop making an effort - turns out most people don't make much effort at all. I really believe that if people want to be involved in your life they'll make the effort. This year has shown me where to invest and also where to divest. Make an effort. Be bothered. Care. Show up. Observations from a month of actively deciding to not work (event freelancing anyway), and almost a month of sobriety - • Sometimes it takes going past your edge to know where the edge was in the first place. • My burn-out-o-meter is pretty fucking decent but there's still space to fine-tune. • The sub-conscious emotional prang of "I should be working / achieving / being productive" will always pop up no matter how good not working feels. • Make decisions based on certainties rather than possibilities. Say yes to what you can now, and if you need to course-correct, figure that out when that bridge comes. • If you're a dreamer, the above might be challenging! • It's hard to really know how you feel when you're body is constantly processing and filtering toxicants. • I always forget how good sobriety feels until I'm past the ten day mark. • Sober me needs to eat way less than not-sober me. • The speed at which body learns and adapts to new training methods and physical stressors is mad, so try something new and stick at it for a month before you judge it to work or not work. • I still haven't worked out when the best time for me to read it. • New habits require letting go of old habits. • A problem or issue can't be fixed by the same mindset that created it. • The slower I go, the more I get done. • Most Deliveroo food, even from decent places, is shit and a rip off. • Over-thinking is the mother of all procrastination (for me anyway). • Doing hard things is usually bitter in the beginning, and sweet in the end. 📸 taken at the start of the month by mega legend and pal @prycie 👜's under my eyes are my own 🫠

  3. 4 months booze free today! I often do little sober stints without much intention of longevity. A month usually feels like a good amount of time to create some discipline and feel some detoxing, and it always illuminates how much alcohol acts as a pacifier for me and my nervous system in social and stressful settings. A month off the sauce is usually the goal, and sometimes that feels like an eternity, but this time it's felt easy, and that's why it's lasted so long. I always find the first week and the first weekend are the hardest. But once I'm through that it gets easier. Having sober friends to go out with certainly helps! And it does mean that I've said no to a lot of things I would normally say yes to, but I've never regretted waking up feeling fresh. Yeah, alcohol is a real social lubricant for me. Even just a small amount helps to calm anxieties, but it's really more like a mask that I can hide my insecurities behind. That's the thing with sobriety - there's nowhere to hide. Reality is always there to be met without any hindrance, and even with a small amount of self awareness I notice a lot about myself when the lens of my perception is clear. I've slowed down a lot, slept much better, been able to navigate work more fully, no blurry regrets, loads of early nights, even more accountability. With sobriety comes control, but I think a bit of chaos can be a good thing. Chaos to the routine. I've not quite figured out how do to that bit sober yet. Maybe in a few stints time?   2. I love using blocks when I'm practicing and I really don't understand seeing people struggling and still deciding to not get the support of blocks. It help us to create more space where we can breathe better therefore, relax more. Life can be complicated enough so let's try to make our practice more accessible rather than tough. It isn't about the effort that you put into practice but about the person you're becoming when you are doing it. You don't become less of a yogi by using blocks, it's actually the opposite, the yogi learns to choose wisely and to make sure it has all the support needed. Be nice to yourself. P. S.   1. What’s wrong with this pose? The answer is nothing! Yes, my leg could be higher. Yes, I could draw my leg into my side body more. The list goes on, but we need to throw away our view of perfection and learn to accept where we are each day in our yoga practice. Although this can be challenging. Especially when we compare ourselves to yesterday or the day before that. In today’s yoga community it’s also hard not to compare yourself against someone else’s journey. I’ve done it plenty of times! But that’s the thing your journey is personal to yourself, your body is unique to yourself and how you feel changes each day both physically and emotionally. A pose that was once attainable before might not be any more and vice versa. Also a pose may never be attainable due to a number of factors and that is okay. After reflecting on my own timeline, I’m guilty of posting images that look nice or not accessible. From now on, I will slowly be transforming my account to make yoga more accessible and inclusive to all. Please let me know if you would love to see anything else ✨

Many asanas (poses) have a story behind them, one of my favourite postures Virabhadrasana I, II & III (Warrior 1, 2 & 3) depict the ancient story of Lord Shiva and teaches us to set aside our ego. Shiva and Shakti represent two energies in yoga. Shiva is the male form representing pure consciousness. Shakti represents the female form of energy and power. In one of Shakti’s incarnations, she was called Sati and her father was named Daksha. Sati was in love with Shiva, whom her father was not accepting of.   Daksha organized a ceremony, known as Yagna, to which he invited all but Shiva and Sati. Against Shiva’s advise, Sati attended the ceremony and before thousands of guests asked her father why he had not invited them. In his response Daksha insulted Shiva, Sati was so angry with her father that she burst into flames and was reduced to ashes.   When Shiva heard the news of his wife’s death; he ripped out one of his dreadlocks. From which arose “Virabhadra” (Vira – hero & Bhadra- friend). Shiva directed his warrior to go to the Yagna and kill everyone and behead Daksha.  In some versions of the story, Sati took another form and went to scold and plead with her husband to make the beheading of her father right. In other versions, Shiva himself arrived at the party and absorbed Virabhadra back into his own form. Seeing the death of Daksha, his anger changed to compassion. Whether from his wife’s pleading or his own compassion, at this point Shiva wished to bring Daksha back to life. He looked at Daksha’s head and realized it was no longer suitable and replaced it with a goat and brought him back to life. Daksha realized he had been unfair to Sati and Shiva. In gratitude, he bowed to Shiva and called him “the kind and benevolent one“. The virabhadrasana poses depicts the story and represents the battle between ego represented by Daksha and love represented by Sati. As yogis, we fight self-ignorance and the illusions of separateness of the small self created by our egos. We are spiritual warriors. We destroy that which does not serve us. We embrace all that brings joy and love. We follow our hearts.
