  1. After 16 years reviewing restaurants and writing for The West Australian, it’s time to put the knife and fork down, pursue other ambitions and stretch my writing muscles in new and exciting ways. Sixteen years is a long stretch for any columnist and, while writing weekly columns is, for me, the apogee of a 40-year career in journalism, it becomes increasingly challenging to stay fresh and relevant. With that in mind, it’s always a good idea to leave at the top of one’s game. I am not leaving the dinner table completely. I will continue to write about food and dining and reinvigorate my writing in new, interesting ways across a range of platforms. Yes, I’ll still be in the thick of it, reviewing and writing about dining, food trends, cocktails, wine and hospitality tourism. I might even write a tell all memoir! God knows, there’s a million interesting and salacious stories I haven’t told yet. Stay tuned for future announcements. I have been fortunate to have a career spanning television, radio, and, my favourite media, newspaper and magazines. I have travelled the world on all manner of assignments from the conflicts of the middle east to the heart-warming and selfless work of an orangutan sanctuary deep in the tropical forests of Borneo. My talk radio career at the ABC, 3AW Melbourne and 6PR Perth was a particular highlight. In the last 16 years though, my focus has been on restaurant criticism, which has taken me far and wide, from the wet markets of Dubai to the rice fields of Valencia, Spain and from the glorious Kimberley to some of the most celebrated restaurants on the planet. Most importantly though has been the privilege to provide weekly consumer advice, humour and perhaps even a little foodie education, by way of my restaurant reviews. You can contact me via Instagram at @broadbrush or on email at robertbroadfield@me.com. Anything that requires a physical address, send to: Rob Broadfield Broadcomm Pty Ltd PO Box 167 Cottesloe WA 6911 . Cheers. Thanks. Love youse all.

  1. When you realise the real luxuries ✨ in life are time, peace, happiness, and the freedom to choose whatever you want to do, that’s when you start living… 👌🏼 Travelling 🚐 around Australia for the past 16 months has really taught us to appreciate the little things in life like… ~ Leisurely enjoying a morning coffee ☕️ ~ The luxury of not having to be anywhere, or doing anything in particular. We love the fact we can wake up and have no plans for the day ~ Reading a book 📚 (Vince found himself a hobby ya all’) ~ Ability to pursue my passion for writing and photography 📸(even if I’m not great at the latter) ~ Enjoying ocean 🌊 view campsites and nature, leaving nothing but footprints and creating memories ~ Fire side 🔥 lounge sunset picnics ~ Time spent with our fur baby Goji 🐈‍⬛ watching him blossom from the anxious rescue cat he used to be; and ~ Lazy hangs in our hammock ☮️ Recycled Hammock (Sahara Sand), Towel (Wildflower) and Picnic Blanket (Autumn Leaves) aka chic table cloth AND bed throw Combo from @nakie 🤎 nakie verb - /nak.ki.e/ getting away from the chaos & distractions of everyday life; stripping back to enjoy nature 🌿 and important things 4 trees 🌳 planted for every product sold Travelling Australia while supporting an Aussie 🇦🇺 biz committed to sustainable living♻️ Definitely our kinda vibe ✌🏼 What’s not to love? What are you waiting for? Get on it! What has travelling Australia taught you? We’d love to hear… ⬇️ #nakie #nature #rvtravels #rvcamping #rvadventures #rvfulltime #fulltimerv #freecamping #camplife #gocamping #camperlifestyle #camperlife #fulltimetravel #caravanning #caravanningaustralia #offgridliving #memorableexperiences #houseonwheels #homeiswhereyouparkit #exploreaustralia #travellife #beautifuldestinations #packupandgo #hittheroad #alwaysoutdoors #roadtrip #roadtrippin #roadtripaustralia

  2. Them: Someone said ‘how come you’re up so early?’ 😲 Us: Say, if you’re headed where I’m headed you’d be up early too. If you’re gonna meet who I’m gonna meet, you’d be up early. If it was gonna stack up for you like, like its stacking up for me… 🤌🏻 Self-guided silo art tours are the new outback road trips! 🚐 Did you know there’s more than 5️⃣0️⃣ silo art locations in the @australiansiloarttrail We’re always up early… And nothing quite stacks up to the silo art ‘Wheat Bags to Sand Bags’ 🤎 The silo art is located in📍Owen, east of Port Wakefield (83kms from Adelaide) The artwork was created by renowned artidts 🧑🏻‍🎨 Robert Hannaford and @camscale Completed in April 2021, the artwork depicts life in rural Australia 🇦🇺 during the outbreak of World War 1 It serves as a tribute to the soliders who fought in Gallipoli and other battles One part depicts harvest 🌾 in Owen in 1914, with men loading wheat bags, whilst the next image showcases the same men throwing sand bags into the trenches at Gallipoli The Owen silo stands at 30m tall, making it a massive emotional 🥹 canvas you won’t want to miss It is the the 10th silo to be painted 🎨 as part of the @australiansiloarttrail These facts highlight the significance and beauty of the Owen Silo Art, making it a must-see destination for solo art enthusiasts and history nerds like us! PRO TIP: 💡For a more detailed art location map, with images, artist information and quality user experience, use the 📲 Silo Art Australia App, available to download from the App Store Tell us… what do you get up early for? 3. How’s this for a road trip 🚐 plot twist? Our love of the silo art 🎨 craze spreads across rural South Australia 🇦🇺 So we say YES please to exploring our latest backyard with more colourful silo murals that have gained our attention 👀 This time the silos are in Cowell gateway to the @eyrepeninsula ⬅️ AND THEY DON’T COME MUCH BIGGER THAN THIS!!!!! ➡️ We almost got us all in the pic! Some fun facts we learnt ⬇️ ~ The silos were painted 🧑🏻‍🎨by Austin Nitsua @_n_i_t_s_u_a_ ~ Completed in September 2019 in 8 days of painting 🎨 it was only 30% complete, and took a total 20 days to paint ~ The 3️⃣0️⃣ metre high silo canvas (highest standing monument in the town) is the largest work of @_n_i_t_s_u_a_ to date ~ The Cowell Silo Artwork tells a story of a local legend, shearer, farmer and prankster Lionel Deer and his beloved camel 🐫 Diamantina ~ It represents the strength & resilience of the community who were at the time of production battling through the most severe drought experienced in over 2️⃣0️⃣ years; and also features a Port Lincoln Parrot & nearby farmhouse ruin ~ Community fundraising & a $14,237 grant made it possible to commission Austin to create the mural including paint & hire of a boom PRO TIP: 💡Download the @australiansiloarttrail Silo Art Australia APP 📲 and embark on a vibrant journey dedicated too discovering Australia’s unique Silo Art and more… We’ve ticked off 7️⃣ silos (6️⃣ in SA, 1️⃣ in WA)… How many silos have you seen up close and personal? Let us know in the comments 👇🏼 #cowell #eyrepeninsula #austinnitsua #siloart #siloarttrail #ronmuralist #australiansiloarttrail #mural #streetart #southaustralia #australiantraveller #vanlifetravel #lifeofadventure #travelcouplegoals #seeaustralia #travelcouple #alwaysoutdoors #adventuretravel #travelaustralia #roadtripaustralia #touringaustralia #traveloz #travellingram #travellife #travelwithus #fromwhereyoudratherbe #travellingaustralia #rvlife #rvlifestyle #vanlifeaustralia
