D'ahhh i'm so juiced to share my first recipe for @nytcooking: "Juicy Tomatoes with Parmesan-Olive Bread Crumbs" It’s a high-summer salad where i take my favorite summer fruit, salt them in advance for seasoning, but also so their sweet juices pool out, creating a saucy, fresh tomato water base for a quick vinaigrette. The real kicker are the bread crumbs tho. Cheesy, garlicky and spiced up, they leave my kitchen smelling like i’ve become a pizzaiolo 🍕 👨🏽‍🍳 , but i have not 🙃 They're also super good on like, literally almost anything that wants more flavor and crunch, but hit especially well on fresh, ripe tomatoes. It's strange to see a dream come true like sharing a recipe for The Times, but it can happen and its so cool to see 😊 💭 ✨ 🍅 Thanks so much to @genevieve_ko @eatdrinkdance and @ericjoonho for making this happen!   3. I never had sleepovers growing up so my first one was last week with this 14-course Sleepover menu at @merchantroots themed around bedtime stories and nursery rhymes. You’ll start with your @jansport backpack packed with everything you need for your sleepover. The rest of the night you’ll navigate around the menu odeing to tounge twisters and lullabies. The lights even turned off for some star gazing ⭐️ The next bedtime story featured a dish that was too hot, too cold, and one that was just right. We continued with scary stories before entering the pillow fort for snacks. Our midnight snack was cookies and milk featuring a cookie cart and bespoke milks. To conclude the sleepover, you’ll have cereal before going home. The dinner costs $195 with an optional wine or mocktail add on.   2. Picture day – even after all these years in broadcast news – never gets old. But stepping in front of the camera for this headshot was different. Perhaps it was the pride I felt knowing that I had achieved my childhood dream of becoming a network correspondent. Or maybe it was a reminder of what I had been through, personally and professionally, to get to this very moment. I’ll never forget the professor who told me I didn’t have the look or voice to be an anchor, or the executive who said that using my last name on-air would ultimately keep me from advancing. And don’t even get me started on the hate mail and calls I’ve received throughout my journalism career telling me to go back to where I came from.   3. As the first-born son of immigrants, watching the news was our window to the world. It helped me explore what my life could be if I was willing to dream big. This morning, I was formally introduced as a national correspondent for @cnn, based out of Washington, DC, where I’ll travel and report for the network’s broadcast and digital platforms, and our 1,400+ Newsource affiliates across the globe. From my humble beginnings as a paperboy in my hometown, to becoming the first Vietnamese American man to anchor in a major U.S. television market, my news journey has been one for the books.   3. “What a way to start my new life. With the perfect egg sandwich.” - Birds of Prey  . . . . I just recently found out about @duchuongsandwiches and their amazing Banh mi. I got the No. 7 which was the grilled pork and egg and it was absolutely amazing.  The pork was super flavorful and there was just soo much egg. I’ll definitely be back for more.  . On another note, it was super crowded when I went. We usually have this tradition of going to BJs for Father’s Day so I can snag a free beer glass but things are a little different. So instead we took a family pic during shelter in place (feels like we still are shelter in place). No haircuts. And recreating a pic we took 5 years ago. It’s funny.   2. FULL DISCLOSURE : these masks were used by me in a training one month ago. So they were not wasted for just my IG purposes. Like most of us in Dentistry, our profession has come to a grinding halt because of COVID19. Many of us are questioning our state components and advocacy. What’s an essential procedure? What’s a nonessential? When can we go back to work? Is our PPE sufficient? Why are there a shortage of masks? Does our profession need N95 for all emergencies? I’m not here to advocate anything. I just wanted to somehow show the level of protection in these masks through photography. Using the flash shining through these used masks as a measure of thickness and protection, I can assure you if you have been using ASTM Level 1 (bottom right) one is almost getting no protection. ASTM level2(bottom left) is not any better. ASTM Level 3 (upper right) is better for sure. And the rare but popular N95(upper left) shows no light leaking through. I mentioned training earlier. I went through a one hour training to learn how to use a N95 mask. And if not fitted properly, it is as useless a 1,2, or 3 in terms of protection to whatever and potentially more harmful in terms of ability to breathe. There’s a health screening process. They place an apparatus over your head. And they spray the worst smelling bitters in the apparatus to see if you put it on correctly. So please. Make sure if you’re getting N95 masks as part of your future dental armamentarium for PPE, get trained. I miss doing “bread and butter” dentistry. My wife and I are only seeing triaged over the phone emergencies. The community clinic I am dental director at is still open for emergencies only and the medical department tests 10 patients a day for COVID19. We screen everyone at the door for temperature and yes we have had positive cases. We support the clinic by giving PPE (they have trouble getting it)and showing them how to use it properly to prevent cross contamination. Companies have been gracious to community clinics. My hope is things will get better, we are all contributing to the greater good. Be safe. Be well.

  3. Amazing. Just amazing what science is capable of. If you told me back in March 16, 2020 there would be two viable vaccines for COVID19 I never would have believed you. Cheers to all the scientists, biochemists, clinical trial participants, clinicians and anyone that I missed. Truly remarkable. Glad to report after 30min so far so good.
