  2. Hiya @ayyysassy ‘ere ! Here’s ten things I ate that I really, really enjoyed this month and in no particular order. I enjoyed doing this round up at the end of last year, so I’m thinking of making it a monthly thing. Lucky for you guys because you get to hear me waffle on even more. The army stew from Chimaek was a bit of me, I see food like this all the time online and have always wanted to try one. Vietnamese rice rolls from Wow Banh Mi - these were delicious and the woman sitting next to me taught me the proper way to eat them which I loved. Sips and Dips do hummus awarma, and if you thought hummus couldn’t get better, add lamb & melted ghee - it’s so, so tasty, and bonus points for the hummus being so smooth. There’s a Portuguese restaurant up near my mum and dads that I love going to. I got the Caldo Verde, a soup made out of cabbage, sausage and potato. It’s mint and we paired it with Vinho Verde (which I bloody love). I love ramen and a top one for me is the lamb tantan from New Wave. It’s spicy, creamy and everything I look for in a bowl of noodles. Pie is a staple for me, and the dauphinoise potato one from Trof has quickly shot up my list as one of the best pies in Manchester. You must have walked past Gerry’s in Piccadilly Gardens, and their jianbing is INCREDIBLE. I got the salt and pepper one, and I’m definitely returning. The chateaubriand from Hawksmoor is next level, but what tops it off is the sides! A tip - order the mash and add the bone marrow to it, thank me later. Right. Let me take a moment to speak about the cheesecake from Sexy Fish… I genuinely think it’s one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten. If you’ve seen the show Friends, it’s what I imagine the cheesecake in that to taste like. Finally, the charcuterie board from Casa Italia might have been the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen (make sure to wash it down with the pistachio liqueur). See you next month x

As always in no particular order ! - The creamiest cheesecake, served directly from tray to bowl. Holy mother of god @blacklockchops . It opens in Manchester this autumn and I strongly suggest trying when it does ! - Also opening in Manchester next week! Pork Shnitzel from @caravanrestaurants with a fried egg, mustard dill cream & pickles. - Anchovies, flatbread, dirty martini. @erst_mcr if it wasn’t frowned upon to eat this for breakfast, lunch, & dinner I would. - An incredible spread from @gop.mcr , I’m not usually the biggest fan of fried chicken but this one. Game changer. - Roasted sladesdown duck from @skof_manchester , honestly anything you try here is amazing. Especially the onion broth. - Karashibi devil ramen from @taiko_ramen the FLAVOUR !! Also if you don’t like spice they do it at different levels. - Sometimes the simple food is the best, and @ceresis.pizzaaltaglioromana potato pizza with sausage, sage & rosemary is just that. - Laksa from @hongthaimcr it was a long 6 months without them, and were so glad to see them back. - This wouldn’t be a Saskia round up without a Caesar salad. Tried the one from @therealtartuffe last week and it did not disappoint. - honorable mention, but did anyone hear that I made a Caesar salad chip butty? @ec_ancoats If you try any of them let me know, see ya next time x

  1. LONG BORING OSCAR SPEECH INCOMING- I have been waiting my entire life for someone to notice that I’m the kind of person that looks at butter and wonders what I can add to it. My usual response to the question ‘how can I improve this situation?’ is to ADD BUTTER. But, as you can’t add butter to butter (actually, I’m working on that), the only sensible thing left to do was to dehydrate some sauerkraut liquor until it became a syrup and swirl it through butter. I’d like to send a heartfelt thank you to @jayrayner1 for noticing. I’d also like to thank the exceptionally kind, funny and talented @hellocreameries team, Anthony Bourdain for getting me into this mess in the first place, my joint fairy godmothers/ doucheballs @bobgranleese and @cabritogoatmeat, and me. I’d like to thank ME for working my dick off for the last twenty years. Owning a restaurant is generally a thankless task, akin to parenting in terms of unpaid labour, exhaustion and angst, but today is one of those rare, shiny, happy days where it sort of feels worth it. We’ll be drinking here ALL DAY to celebrate. Pop in and raise a glass with us. Besos.

We are looking for volunteer bakers to join our merry gaggle of chefs, restauranteurs and others so we can continue providing food prepared with love to NHS staff, parents at Ronald McDonald House, families that use food banks, and many others in our community! Volunteering would involve a full day (or more if you like) baking in isolation @hellocreameries. Recipes, ingredients etc all supplied but we need professional chefs or bakers so we can maintain proper kitchen management and food safety procedures etc. Our collective, and the number of meals we’re producing are growing by the week so if you feel like you can help, please DM! And if you can’t help but know people who can, please share. THANK YOU and massive shout to everyone involved so far. It’s been the biggest privilege to see how deep the well of kindness in this city goes- it’s seemingly unending so far ❤️❤️❤️

  1. I’m taking a gigantic risk with this one I’m building a 12,000 square foot food hall right in the middle of Denton town square Picked up this building in auction back in December. I was the only bidder. Nobody wanted it Honestly it feels a bit mad that I own this. I used to hang around on this square and next to this building when I was 13-14. On a Saturday night all the local gangs used to hang around on here until the council ended up renovating the square. They resurfaced the whole thing, built some fountains and pedestrianised it. That was 17 years ago. Nothing has happened since then. The square is really nice, it’s just a shame this building on it has been under utilised for so long 13 year old me never would have thought it would be me doing it Went halvsies on this building with @mstreety_ and working with an old friend and superstar architect @danrenoso at @officerenosourmston to bring it to life.

This building behind me right now is an ugly duckling But we’re building something spectacular in Denton town centre with this Days like today make me realise how unbelievable it’s going to be Over 10,000 square feet of open space across a main hall, a mezzanine and a greenhouse dropped on top of the building looking over the park (video in this carousel) A space to eat A space to drink A space to work A space to hold events A space to host live music What’s great, and very important to me, is that so far everyone involved is from the area. My architect, construction team, engineers and eventually all the staff and suppliers too. Swipe for a couple shots.

Exchanged in Feb and project complete by July- very reasonable timescale for a project like this where absolutely nothing in the house is the same (apart from the fireplace, windowsills and the staircase) Next week I’m going to post every single penny I spent on this on my Substack- go subscribe to get the email when it comes through.   1. This is the first time my whole life I feel like “me. Growing up I never had a clear sense of who I was! There was no one to model what it meant to belong to yourself or feel grounded in your own identity. I just learnt to blend in through all phases of my life, shaping myself to fit to what other people expected of me. Only recently have I begun to experience what it’s like to feel truly myself! I feel clear in who I am in my bones, where I’m going, and my purpose. I want to use my voice, my story and my truth to create change. Not just for me but part of the legacy I share with my mum, If our pain can be reshaped into safety, understanding and positive change for all. My biggest inspiration is the version of me before I had the language, support or truth that I have now. She carried sooooo much without knowing why. Statistically, my path could have taken far more damaging routes: addiction, self harm. The fact that I’m here and growing, is something I am in total awe at everyday. Because of that, I refuse to waste a single moment of this one precious life. I survived in order to live, not to shrink! Taken from my notes app from when I have moments of deep thought & realisations: my life has been absolutely wild!! I could literally write a book or make a documentary (hello long term goals). We’re so used to seeing stories in the media where trauma only ever spirals into more trauma, as if darkness is the only possibility, but it doesnt have to end that way. Sometimes those twists and turns can lead us into the light.

  3. I changed my name!🙌 If you’ve been following my story, you’ll know I’ve separated myself from my dad and paternal relatives but my surname was still threaded to them. Not anymore!! I’ve shed that old, disgusting name and taken on my mother’s maiden name, Ahern..who she was before she ever married my dad. I feel names hold energy and lineage. Changing my name isn’t just a bit of paperwork, it’s about changing my frequency & reclaiming the TRUTH. I choose my path. I choose my lineage. I choose what what happens in my life from now on.   1. ✉️🍴MY FIRST INVITE🍴✉️ @dongiovannimcr kindly invited me to there launch of there new Sunday lunch menu on 4th October!👏🏼 So as it was there 1st day launching, it was bound to have some teething problems😬. These were quickly ironed out by all staff, which I must say were very helpful💯! 🥂💰THEY ARE DOING 50% OFF THROUGHOUT OCTOBER!!🥂💰 Monday-friday😍👏🏼 We ordered: * BRUSCHETTA AL POMODORO - both were off the al la carte menu, (not included with Sunday roast menu) 10/10 * BRUSCHETTA AI FUNGHI - 10/10 Sunday roast menu: * chicken supreme, served with - roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, parsnips, carrots, Yorkshire pudding (HUGE) with unlimited gravy. 9/10 It would of got a 10/10, however, we originally ordered the lamb. But when this was served, the cuts were quite fatty. (Wouldn’t order again until kitchen have new supplier. Also didn’t serve mint sauce which we were gutted about, had we decided to keep the lamb) So we changed to chicken which knocked it out the park!😍 Deserts🍦: * Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla icecream- (this is included with the Sunday lunch menu of a set price at £19.95) 10/10 * Chocolate fondue with vanilla icecream 10/10 📍Location: Don Giovanni - Manchester @dongiovannimcr AMAZING location for a few drinks after🍾 ⏰: Could NOT fault the staff.   2. 🥂💗BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH💗🥂 Ok so, I’ve had quite a few messages asking me where’s best for bottomless brunch in Manchester?.... here we have it!!! Not only is bottomless brunch my absolute FAVE, but when you have high expectations, and every single of one them gets met... you can’t complain can you🤩💯🙋🏼‍♀️ @menagerie_restaurant you certainly pulled it out the bag❤️😍 I’ve been to a few different bottomless brunches.. eg: BLVD, Revolution, Manahatta... and this certainly trumps them all. For £45pp (I know, abit steep, but worth every penny for the experience) you receive the following: * Choice of 2 plates of the menu (I have posted menu on last photo) * 2 hour table time (we were allowed to stay longer due to them not being that busy) 🥞 We ordered: * Full English breakfast * French toast * Buttermilk pancakes 🥂 Drinks are a choice of: * Prosecco, Bloody Mary, Mimosa or Kikis fruit punch. It was my friends birthday so we also paid for a £4 birthday plate for a surprise which was lovely (shown in pic 5). They also surprised us with 4 free shots and sparklers at our table🥳😍 📍Location: Menagerie Restaurant @menagerie_restaurant - Manchester City centre ⏰: So a big thank you and shoutout to Chloe who gave 10/10 customer service throughout our time there. Especially with the fact the new Tier 3 restrictions had been put in place. Drinks were constantly flowing and we didn’t have to wait to get anyone’s attention for drinks (as I’m eager to make the most of my money lol) We actually returned a few hours later as we enjoyed it that much!

  1. @zoukteabar Are now doing monthly cooking classes 🤩🍽️🥘!!! We got the pleasure of being invited down to try out their veggie cooking class this month & Omg this was soo much fun! We have never done a cooking class before but loved every minute of it! You get to cook 2 starters & two mains, get to watch them make the naan breads in the clay ovens!! All of the food was made by our little team with a little help from the amazing chefs at the restaurant for the veggie one we made, a paneer starter & onion bhajis (how good do they look! They were UNREAL!) alongside 3 different types of curries 2x veggie and 1x vegan and we also got to learn how to make their pilau rice too (deffo trying it at home!) You also get a welcome chai tea, your apron to keep & a certificate for completing the course! Highly recommend as a great gift 🎁 for Mother’s Day, or the perfect date day for next month we loved every minute!   2. @tre_ciccio Glossop is OPEN! 🥳🍕🤩🍕🍋 We were so excited to get invited down to Tre Ciccio in Glossop at their soft launch on Friday! They opened their doors to this gorgeous two story restaurant on Saturday right opposite Glossop train station 🚉 We tried a full selection of the menu and couldn’t rate the quality of the food any higher it was just so damn good! We also had incredible service from the staff and will be back soon! JUST WATCH THOSE BURRATA CHEESE PULLS!! We ate: Burrata starter & prawn 🦐 starter followed by the famous SUD Pizza (this is famous for a reason! wowza it was spicy and delicious) and mushroom & goats cheese pasta dish which was also so tasty in a gorgeous sauce! Alongside chips and zucchini fries 🍟 Topped off by affogato and tirimisu which really made me roll all the way home!!   3. @sipsndips.uk you have stolen my heart & can I please have it back now?? You need to go & try the BEST Lebanese 🇱🇧 in the whole of Manchester, these guys know what they are doing and really are the best Lebanese in town, from their finely chopped tabouleh to the date and pistachio milkshake every damn thing on that menu that we tasted blew our minds! We started with mint tea and their famous frozen lemonade followed by a tour around their menu! Mixed dips for one (best labneh and falafel 🧆 wow) Hummus Awerma (the hot butter & lamb one WOW) Man’oucheh Spinach & pomegranate (that was a stand out for us! I need it again already) Spicy potato cubes (a nice addition with a crunch) Lamb Kofta Tagine with rice (I also need this again) And a chicken shawarma 🥙 wrap to finish 10/10 We were stuffed so no dessert just Sand coffee (if you want to be awake all night) and a chai latte for me which I adored and just got annoyed that I can’t make mine as good at home. They are based on Stockport Rd Levenshume & we literally can’t wait to take our family and go back, I would say the prices too are so good and all the juices are made fresh in house which is such a big appeal for me! Fry-nally, we gave @vietshack a go! 😍 - This is one of those places that has been on my list for so long, and I’m so glad we finally decided to pay them a visit. - We went for lunchtime on Saturday and, because their lunch menu is just a small selection of their dishes, I left wanting to try even more, so I’ll definitely be going back for dinner soon! - Gabs had a big bowl of very tasty pho, and I had this big pile of fries topped with meat, chicken and all things yum. - The service was fantastic and, from the very first moment we arrived, we could see how much love and passion goes into everything their staff do. I think that was my favourite thing. Vietshack seems to be a result of very passionate work, and I loved experiencing that. - As I said above, I can’t wait to go for dinner and try more dishes but, for now, I can say so far so good 😉 - What about you?   2. Time to get real here: I’m one of those people that loves planning everything, just so I know how my day is going to go. - Today our plan was to go to @sushi_marvel, but they were closed. Then we went to @vnam_mcr, but they were cash only (and we rarely ever carry around cash) so on the walk back, we stumbled upon @capheviet and decided to go in. All I can say is wow, I’m so glad things didn’t go according to plan, because otherwise we wouldn’t have found this absolutely amazing hidden gem 💎 - Not only the attention is exceptional and their staff is super nice and friendly, but the food is just out-of-this-world kinda good 👽 - I know you can’t really hear pictures, but trust me when I say I can hear the crunch when I stare at this one 🤩 these crispy pork belly rolls were so good, I could back just to eat them again and again and again. A lot of Asian restaurants already do this and offer their own boxes but if I can help to cut waste by remembering to bring my own, I will do. Knowing what transports and reheats well will also factor into what gets eaten on the day. Generally seafood is a general no and anything with a soup base will struggle to get home in one piece. Salads and cakes are good for transporting. If a place is already on Uber Eats or Deliveroo, then it can be less embarrassing to pack your left overs. Reader, sometimes I go to cafes or market stalls with my own box and ask them to use my container instead of their own disposable ones. I've never been turned down (yet!) Remember, every small contribution helps. You don't have to do it for every visit.   2. I made Japanese style egg sandwich using @cookerru's recipe, substituting onions for Chinese chives. These sandwiches are super thick due to the milk loaf aka Shokupan used. Half of this was super filling and enough for one person in my opinion. I bought the loaf slices from @wacafelondon when I was visiting London. Let me know where I can buy this type of bread in Manchester! There's been a growing number of egg sandwiches where a whole egg can be seen. I first saw this style of sandwich in Japan so when it eventually made it on these shores, I was not fascinated but mildly amused. I think it was Marks and Spencers who first shocked the UK nation when they released a ham and egg sandwich which contained a whole uncut boiled egg. Now you can see this style of sandwich in trendy UK cafes. This sandwich is really easy to make but finding the elusive bread is difficult. You may be able to substitute with a normal farmhouse bread or milk bread, but there's nothing quite like Shokupan #ESEAEats @asianleadershipcollective #ESEAJoy #ESEA
