VERY excited to have just received THIS...my very first issue as editor of The Richmond Magazine and The Barnes Magazine 💥 I’ve read this magazine for as long as I can remember and for the past few years I’ve loved writing the Food and Drink page (and will carrying on doing so), so I am thrilled to be hopping in the hot seat. Inside there's lots of local news and some fabulous features; @mirandajessop28 meets Nigel Havers who is at @richmondtheatre this month and @alicecairns24 chats to Niamh Cusack who is at @rosetheatrekingston. There's also a brilliant interview with barber, author and suicide prevention campaigner @tomchapman_hair about the amazing work he is doing training other barbers how to recognise signs of depression and talk to men about their mental health. Elsewhere there's seasonal Fashion, Homestyle and more, plus my usual food-related ramblings, which this month are an ode to one of my very favourite traditions - Stir up Sunday (yes, it involves drinking brandy) and I also take a look at the recent flurry of delicious new openings.   3. I’ve wanted to visit L’Enclume for a very long time. Last week it happened. One of only eight restaurants in the UK with three Michelin stars (and a Green star too ☘️), Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume (which means ‘the anvil’ in French - a nod to the 13th century blacksmith which the restaurant now occupies) is a beautiful, understated spot tucked away in the picture-perfect village of Cartmel in Cumbria. The food, oh the food. Around 15 exquisite courses, plus cheese. The kitchen garden is king, and everything else is simply the very best it can be. No fuss or unnecessary theatre, just precision, creativity, process and flavour. Just a few snap shots above - I haven’t stopped thinking about that fritter of smoked eel topped with lovage and fermented sweetcorn, the cool-to-the-touch Kendall mint pebbles, or the seaweed custard, gently set, with a rich broth, oyster and a generous dollop of caviar, paired with a glass of Billecart-Salmon Cuvee Louis Salmon Blanc de Blancs 2008 🤤 As I had hoped, the level of excellence here is second to none and Rogan’s gastronomic vision is a wonder to behold (and taste), but there are no starched tablecloths, no stuffiness or unnecessary formality. Quite the opposite. What also blew me away was the service - the enthusiasm and incredible efficiency of every single person across the business (we were lucky enough to eat at Rogan and Co and Henrock too). We also spent the afternoon at Rogan’s farm just down the road called Our Farm, which supplies all the restaurants with wonderful biodynamic produce. Incredibly knowledgeable head farmer John Rowland showed us around, and his passion, not just for growing but for the wonder of nature, was palpable. I also had a stroll around Cartmel village with head chef @paulburgalieres, who gave me just a small insight into the mammoth task that is developing intricate dishes worthy of the L’Enclume menu. Creating recipes are a lot harder than I thought, trial an error always worked for me until I perfected my dishes 🤣 Full recipe: *Wash your salmon in lemon water* 1 tablespoon of garlic olive oil 1 teaspoon of garlic powder 1 teaspoon of fish seasoning 1 teaspoon of all purpose (I used Portland Mills) Pinch of scotch bonnet or cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon of Paprika 1/2 teaspoon of course black pepper Pasta of your choice Double cream To sear your salmon 1 tablespoon of garlic olive oil 1/2 tablespoon of chilli olive oil Tip: Before mixing your double cream, Salmon & pasta together; add a pinch of fish seasoning, paprika, all purpose and black pepper. @jamaicavalleyuk scotch bonnet & pimiento rub has become an essential, I love it! 🤍

  2. 🍹✨PYJAMA BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH ✨🍹Kave by @drunch What can I say? WE LOVED THIS. You get 2 courses, a main and dessert. And bottomless drinks - Prosecco £40 or Cocktails £50. The menu is very extensive so there’s something for everyone. The food was 10/10. The chicken burger was the best burger we’ve ever had. We weren’t expecting it. It was very flavoursome and juicy. The @hairybikers have been a huge part of my life growing up and their cookbooks were always staples in our kitchen. As a duo they did wonderful things to champion British food and regions. Their customer service online is amazing and I personally loved working with them for this collab. ⁣ ⁣ At @hotnjuicyshrimpldn there’s loads of options to choose from and you can compare their popular combos on their website if you’re struggling to decide what to get like I did. They also finally have a dine in service in @housedeptford open from Thursday - Saturday! Collection from Woodgreen (Fridays) and Bethnal Green (Saturday & Sunday)⁣ ⁣ 🦀 Mukbang (£80.00)⁣ This particular combo is usually for 3 people but their portion sizes are very generous so I was able to share this between 5! This platter includes snow crab clusters, king prawns, red potatoes and corn on the cob. I opted for their Hot n Juicy classic sauce and chose a spice level of hot, brace yourselves as it is actually verrrry spicy but I loved it 🔥. Everything was so fresh and flavoursome. The snow crabs were cooked perfectly but definitely learn how to crack them open so none of that goes to waste 🤣 (shoutout to my sister in law @farhanaakther for all those perfect pulls). The king prawns were so juicy and literally full of flavour. The corn on the cob and potatoes with their garlic butter sauce was just something else!   2. 📍The Connaught, Ilford⁣ @theconnaughtilford⁣ [Ad - Invite] If you’re on the hunt for the perfect brunch spot this weekend, this is it 🫶🏽 The Connaught launched their Brunch Menu last weekend 🍳🥞 It’s served from 8:30am until 4:00pm, no long queues and free parking right outside 👏🏽👏🏽 ⁣ 🍳 Classic Breakfast (£8.00)⁣ 🍳 Classic Big Breakfast (£9.50)⁣ The classic comes with fried egg, beans, sausage, rasher, sourdough, mushroom, tomatoes, hashbrown, fresh fruits with cream and the classic big includes everything listed but with DOUBLE sausages, rashers and eggs! It’s probably one of THE MOST enjoyable breakfast I’ve had 🫶🏽 Every brunch place I’ve visited has a long queue or long wait but this came out on time and was cooked fresh and the food was still hot when it came to eat, which was surprising as I took a while to shoot content. Not to mention, the prices for the portions you get is incredible 👏🏽⁣ 🥞 Biscoff Pancakes (£8.00)⁣ My first thought was how divine this smelt 😍 It gave me cosy, winter vibes straight away and I think it was the lotus biscoff sauce which I fell in love with! The pancakes were soo soft and fluffy with it being crispy around the edges which you don’t usually find but it gave it a nice texture. It came with loaads of berries which made me realise fruits with lotus sauce > nutella sauce 😮‍💨😮‍💨 You guys honestly need to try this, it was too good. The chef also recommended the Aussie French Toast which is a COCONUT flavoured french toast. How delicious does that sound?! I knew it’d be way too much food so will definitely keep that in mind for my next visit 🥰⁣ 🍊 Orange Juice (£3.00)⁣ 🍍 Pineapple & Orange Juice (£3.50)⁣ 🍎 Apple, Kiwi, Lime and Mint Juice (£3.50)⁣ The lovely Chantelle made these for us, it was made perfectly well 😍😍 The third one is a lovely alternative to a mojito! My brother loved them all and couldn’t stop complementing them! The only thing I’d suggest is adding ice to it, just because juices can become warm. 100% recommend this place guys so deffo give this one a SAVE!   3. 📍five akhis express, milton keynes @fiveakhis [ad - invite] five akhis have recently opened up their second branch known as five akhis express located in crownhill. in this branch they specialise in their gourmet, mouthwatering smash burgers! 🍔 el’ pepe | £8.99 🍔 juicy lucy | £8.99 🍔 big akhis | £10.99 🍔 truffle burger | £8.99 🍔 chubbies | £24.99 these burgers honestly looked and tasted insane. just by looking at the burgers itself, you can tell how juicy it tastes. each patty was smashed to perfection and the burgers were loaded with toppings. my top 3 faves has got to be the juicy luicy, big akhi’s and the el pepe. i loved the different toppings such as the mango relish, strawberry jam and maple bacon all which added a sweetness to the burgers. i feel like i haven’t enjoyed a gourmet burger in such a long time and this experience completely changed that! 🍟 mega loaded fries | £7.49 this was layered soo beautifully! there was a generous amount of beef and sauce layered between the chips. 🍗 flaming mango tenders | £6.99 🍗 bangla naga tenders | £6.99 these were really good tenders, cooked perfectly and flavoured really well. the bangla naga wings were suuper spicy and went so well with the garlic mayo sauce as it balanced it all out. i couldn’t really taste the mango flavour in the tenders, it was more of a sweet flavour than mango itself but still very delicious! 🍹 sassy strawberry mojito | £5.49 🍹 buddha blue mojito | £5.49 🍹 pineapple & coconut express | £5.49 these were actually quite different to the usual mojitos i’ve tasted. the strawberry mojito had a hint of coconut which i loved! the buddha blue was my fave. if you love pina colada, the pineapple and coconut one is for you. surprisingly, i really enjoyed that one! thank you to the team over at @fiveakhis for such a lovely experience land @numarketing_ for arranging this invite! 😁 ⭐️ 9/10 🔔 10/10 #TasnimxEats
