  3. I really, REALLY didn't want to write this post. I still feel ashamed, and I was also worried about the stigma. But the one thing which got me through the last hideous couple of weeks was the fact in recent years, we have become much more educated about the menopause. And that really helped. So here goes. A couple of weeks ago, I was hit with two sudden new symptoms. The first was an all-consuming anxiety, an anxiety I've been lucky enough never to experience before. It made me dizzy. It made me cry all the time. And the second one was even worse. It was the most intense brain fog I have ever known. It felt like operating behind five panes of glass. Large chunks of my day went missing. I had to write a list of the most basic tasks to do each day because I knew I wouldn't be able to remember them. I'm a barrister. I was petrified. How could I work with my brain not working? I have written this because if I can make even one person feel less alone by writing it then it will have been worth it. I've never had a hot flush or a mood swing. But it WAS hormones. AND I'm also writing this because there is hope. I'm out the other side now and if anything I feel better than ever now. I know it might happen again but I'm less scared. The person who helped me was my lovely friend Caroline Sheldon at @midlife_management (very much not an ad). I was tempted to increase my HRT but she suspected it was actually an oestrogen surge and she was right. She suggested some other options and within days, the cloud was lifting. I owe her so much. If you're in any way struggling please do see if she can help she offers free Zoom calls in the first instance. I am in no way an expert on menopause so please talk to your GP or meno expert. But these things also helped me: - I started the Couch to 5K app with a friend. Honestly I ran more than the 3 times a week! - Being honest with everyone. I told my daughters. I told my optician so she would write down everything I needed to remember. - the hardest thing was telling work. But I did. And the truth is, we have no business feeling ashamed. We do have business educating other women so we all feel less alone. Thanks for reading.

  2. LONG LIVE WEARING YOUR PERSONALITY 🩷 The History of bag charms and the next big trend✨ 🕊️The chatalain which Began as a decorative hook attached to a belt, with chains suspending household items, reminds me of todays shift to keeping our belongs displayed outside of bags on bag charms or even phone cases. Popular in the 16th-17th Centuries it wasnt until the 19th century that they became less utility and more fashion. Variations were worn by housekeepers, nurses, and eventually adopted by high society women. They were seen as a “portable toolkit,” carrying items like scissors, vials, and writing instruments. They brecame a fashionable way to showcase your personale hobbies and style. Its interesting how no matter how far back you go in history we have always been obsessed with asserting our individuality or personal style in some way! Like bag charms, they acted as a way of communicating or social signaling . Before chatting you could tell what you might have in common weather its a labubu or a for the 19th century women a thimble. Jewllers like Tiffany & Co, Liberty and Sampson Mordan picked up on the tend and began prodcuign their own ornate designs, and I feel like these could still be styled really well today. What I love about the chatlain is that it isnt simply about self expression it has a use, and those are my favourite bag charms things like antique bottle openers lighters and lipglosses. There usefulness makes the fashion statement feel far more nonchalant and less forced. Interestingly like the bag charm the chatelaine did evolve into being a form of indicatign social status and flexing on other woman, how rare is your labubu…more like how many diamonds are on yoru chatelaine. #fashionhistory #bagcharms #labubu #fashionreels #chatelaine #fashionreels #historyoffashion

  2. Ready for Rule of 5 in 2024? It's great to have you here! It's been such a lovely experience travelling with all my Rule of 5 friends this last year, I couldn't possibly look back. Instead, I'm really looking forward to doing it with all of you again - only better this time. Quick reminder of the guidelines on these slides, but please remember they are just a guide. This is your challenge, it's important it's right for you, your needs and where you are in life right now. Having completed the challenge last year I can assure you it really is worth it, on so many levels. It resets your shopping habits, refreshes your relationship with fashion, deepens your relationship with style, saves you money (yes!), introduces you to creativity - and it helps the fight against climate change. I'm sure I don't need to tell you fashion is responsible for 8-10% of the world's emissions, has a huge waste problem clogging up deserts, seas and frankly any part of the world we can find to ship to, and is encouraging consumption at a rate far beyond that which the world's resources will allow. What's great about this challenge is that it is something we can all do, it is enjoyable and revealing and if enough of us do it, it could change the current trajectory we are on. So give it a go! Your wardrobe (and your happiness levels) will thank you. Do subscribe to the newsletter via link in bio as the first bulletin will be going out tomorrow, with lots more detail (don't worry, it's not that complicated). #ruleof5 #sustainablefashion #2024

  2. These are just a few examples of Racism in the UK. Racism comes in a variety of forms, some of which are harder to see than others . In their recent study @clpe.org.uk found that in 2018 Only 4% of all the children's books published that year featured main characters who are Black or minority ethnic, in 2017 the figure was even lower, at just 1%. Now know that 25% of pupils in UK primary schools are of minority ethnic origins (33% inc White non British) . At Russell group Universities White Academics earn on average £52,000 whilst Black academics earn only £38,000✖️ . In UK schools most pupils are not taught about Britain's colonial past, the transatlantic slave trade, the contribution of Black soldiers in WW1 & 2 & positive contributions of Black historical figures are left unmentioned . Black and minority ethnic workers make up 12% of the U.K. Workforce, so why is it the case that they make up only 6% of management positions . A study was carried out by experts based at The University of Oxford where they applied to 3200 jobs, randomly varying the minority background of job applicants while keeping their skills, qualifications and work experience constant. The study found that applicants from Western Europe and the US were received just as well as those in the majority group, whereas those from the Middle East and North Africa were most strongly discriminated against . How you can help: . Support children's books that represent well developed Black & minority ethnic characters 📚 A few examples include: @vashtiharrison's Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History, @mistyonpointe's Firebird & @coilyandcute's Don't Touch My Hair 📖 . Sign the petition to teach Britain's colonial past as part of the UK's compulsory curriculum (link in @esmie.jpg's bio) . Visit @theblackcurriculum for free educational resources (if you are in the position to please also donate) . . Do not remain silent if you witness a racist act in your workplace . Hire, promote and support Black professionals. If you're reading this post right now you're on instagram & have the power to promote Black creators 🌟 . #blacklivesmatter #racism #ukracism #blacklivesmatteruk #antiracism #blm

  2. 🛍️ A GUIDE TO PLUS SIZE THRIFTING 🛍️ (Re-post as I didn't realise Canva had saved one of the slides wrong 🙄) Throughout my sustainable fashion journey I've learnt so much about the privileged position I am in, to have access to second hand shops and sustainable businesses, with everywhere offerring items that will fit me. 'Thin' privilege is something that we all need to acknowledge and understand when supporting our fellow thrifters 💛 Shopping plus size can be really daunting and difficult, so here's a guide to Plus Size thrifting, with advice from plus size shoppers, how 'Thin' shoppers can help, and some size Inclusive independent brand recommendations at the end! As a I learn and grow as an anti-fast fashion activist, I really want to offer support and resources to every kind of thrifter. Please know that ALL advice given in this post is not from myself, I've just compiled the advice from Plus Size thrifters. I would never want to be that nob that offers her advice as an outsider that hasn't had to experience the struggle. Save for later, and share among the thrifty community 👉🏼 Help your fellow thrifters in having the most positive thrifting experience they can have, and support and love everyone for their efforts in alleviating a little pressure on the world and it's people 🌍❤️ Big thank you to @rosetintedsunsets @azriana and @katiekelleherx for contrubuting advice ❤️ . . . . . . . . . . #thrifted #thrifting #thriftedfashion #secondhandfashion #ecofashion #sustainablefashion #ethicalfashion #greenfashion #slowfashion #plussize #plussizefashion #slowfashion #sustainablelifestyle #ecofriendlylifestyle

  3. Now that I've stopped seething for 5 minutes, I've finally managed to gather my thoughts in regards to Pretty Little Thing offering a 99% discount 3000+ styles of clothing... It frustrated me to see SO many people NOT talking about or achkwnoledging how awful this sort of consumerist marketing is (outside of this eco conscious each chamber that we're in). To see hundreds of Tweets of girls excited over buying £50+ items for less than £20 makes me so sad. I'm not angry at them, because we've been conditioned to seek a seratonin rush through consuming a lot whilst spending very little. But it's the responses to those who did question why, amid a climate crisis, Pretty Little Thing decided that this was acceptable. Responses claiming that those who are angry are being ignorant of poor, working class people who can only buy from fast fashion outlets. But why are we pretending that it's those on low incomes buying necessities that this is benefiting? We have said TIME AND TIME AGAIN, WE ARE NOT targeting those who are just trying to clothe themselves and their family. But WE NEED people to understand why situations like this are dangerous, for the workers that makes these clothes, for the planet and the literal future of Human being and all other species on this earth. WE NEED people to understand that our habits as consumers HAVE POWER, and that when those who are aware of the unethical practices of this sort of business model, choose to continue to give money to these companies when they have the means to shop more consciously, they are simply saying that they are ok with it. That they are fine and comfortable with women starving and working for pennies just so they can have a bargain. Companies like Pretty Little Thing are greatly contributing to the destruction of this planet and to modern slavery. I am so SO TIRED of us trying to influence others and work towards a global ethical standard of living whilst shit bags like this are sending us 10 steps backwards. I'M ANGRY, WHY AREN'T YOU? My post definitely summarises my thoughts better than this caption but PLEASE START GIVING A SHIT.

  2. WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN GAMES 🤎 the loveliest night at the BAFTA NOMINEE PARTY with @bafta for their #BaftaGamesAwards ✨ i got the pics back & lily SLAYED with these. one of my fave voice actress asked me if i was a nominee & i think i may have peaked (last slide along w a few of the MANY other women in games who inspire me 🥹) i love the games industry, but especially this past week where i have met just so many incredibly strong and gorgeous women and non-binary angels - who are all just about empowering and emboldening other women. and to all the women who were so welcoming and styled me, you are GORGEOUS. to celebrate such an incredible selection of games, artists, developers, publishers etc and get to do that with these gorgeous souls the night before the awards was just gorgeous. AND i got to work with @oliviablackfashion wearing their ‘Evolution Blazer’ to match the theme of Aloy, in which their line is ethical, sustainable AND genderfluid — all three values i am really HERE for. and have been striving for especially in the last two years 🤎 also to meet new girlies from across the pond and just vibe instantly — @humberly you are an ANGEL. ✨✨✨ WHAT A WONDERFUL EVENING 🫶🏻 outfit: @oliviablackfashion hair: @glowandry @hairbybethansteers makeup: @stilauk @kerrywhitemakeup 📸 photography by @lily_sadin #bafta #baftagamesawards #gaming #womeningames #playstation #awards #london #event #redcarpet #aloy #horizon #horizonforbiddenwest #horizonforbiddenwest #voiceactor #gameawards
