In their recent study @clpe.org.uk found that in 2018 Only 4% of all the children's books published that year featured main characters who are Black or minority ethnic, in 2017 the figure was even lower, at just 1%. Now know that 25% of pupils in UK primary schools are of minority ethnic origins (33% inc White non British) . At Russell group Universities White Academics earn on average £52,000 whilst Black academics earn only £38,000✖️ . In UK schools most pupils are not taught about Britain's colonial past, the transatlantic slave trade, the contribution of Black soldiers in WW1 & 2 & positive contributions of Black historical figures are left unmentioned . Black and minority ethnic workers make up 12% of the U.K. Workforce, so why is it the case that they make up only 6% of management positions . A study was carried out by experts based at The University of Oxford where they applied to 3200 jobs, randomly varying the minority background of job applicants while keeping their skills, qualifications and work experience constant. The study found that applicants from Western Europe and the US were received just as well as those in the majority group, whereas those from the Middle East and North Africa were most strongly discriminated against . NEW vegan Smoked Salmon from Aldi 😱 and let me tell you, you want to keep reading! 🍣🌱✨ and swipe for a video 🎥 One of the most exciting things from Aldi’s Veganuary range this year has to be this vegan smoked salmon. A few posts back in my feed I’ve introduced you to the vegan salmon I tried from Aldi in Germany. So my wish came true and obviously I got super excited seeing this in the UK! And, how is it? It looks super realistic. Even a tad better than the German one and the slices are larger(more square shaped). Smells very fishy. Texture is soft and not jellylike as I found that a bit with the SBs salmon. I also really like the fresh and vibrant package design(much more than the German one) And for some reason, the taste is also better. Actually the best one of all I’ve tried so far! I haven’t tried the new salmon from Asda yet but my review will follow. I’m sure this one will stay number one though as it’s visually a lot better and to be fair, everything about it is perfect I don’t know what could improve. I’ve tried it on the Aldi croissants 🥐 together with Green Vie Mushrooms & Truffle flavoured spread and dill on top ✨ which was a delicious and interesting combination 😻 It’s available at Aldi during Veganuary for £2.99 for 100g(for comparison, the German one costs 1.99€ for 80g so the German is still cheaper) 🛍️

  2. Here for 'Frida Friday' with @jangojune for #jangojanuary.  The statement earrings, rings and headdress are by @handcraftedbyteelee . These and the #thriftedandgifted scarf are perfect for a Frida inspired look.  Frida was a disabled woman too who used a #wheelchair at different times in her life. I do too, sometimes, so there we go! Off to hospital for my Medical Botox for #chronicmigraine today. I have #hemiplegicmigraine which repeatedly mimics a #stroke- I haven't been able to walk further than the kitchen for 2 weeks and on Monday struggled to even speak most of the day. 😒 Wish me luck- might not be in this wheelchair by Saturday! 😃 Why? #disabledawareness - not everyone in a wheelchair needs one all the time. Some people can get up and walk some distances too. Perhaps they cannot walk far, perhaps not far without #chronicillness symptoms or pain setting in, perhaps it is just that week or even day you see them that they need their wheels...or they don't. ALL #disabilities are different and for many their disabilities may vary wildly day-to-day. Remember that, gawpers and doubters: educate yourself.... without interrogating the nearest stranger who happens to be disabled!   3. Here's a round up of my #thrifted festival outfits from #boomtown #festival to join #justhriftinwithtee ! All #accessories , including #upcycled stuff, are by me @handcraftedbyteelee Because of my conditions, the fact that I am frequently housebound and don't socialise much, my scooter breaking down (I fixed it!), and really AWFUL ableist comments from a friend of a friend the first night, it took me a while to get into it. However, in the end, I had a great time- sometimes alone, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my husband and his friend. My husband did a great job looking after me as I spent a fair bit of the time overstimulated and suffering. Dark glasses, a cap, earplugs and ear defenders saved me!  Without those and my mobility scooter, I would have been stuck on camp most of the time. Despite these factors, I enjoyed my outfits, had a good dance, reminded myself of how much I love drum and bass, but was relieved to have a good dose of reggae too.  I still hate being in a large group though, so avoided that completely, but met some lovely people around the festival.  It was my first one in years and I learnt a lot.  I already know how to better prepare and what precautions I need to take next year, and also how to participate more in the many exciting things Boomtown has to offer!
