This week is #fashionrevolutionweek, a movement on a mission to make the fashion industry safer and fairer for its workers and our planet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fashion Revolution Week marks the anniversary of the collapse of Rana Plaza building on the 24th April 2013. In this tragic event more than 1100 garment workers lost their lives and another 2500 were injured. The victims were primarily young women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @fash_rev campaigns for safety, transparency, equality, fair wages, sustainability and amplifying of marginalised voices within the fashion industry, to name a few of the core issues. This is why we ask “Who Made My Clothes?” and “What’s In My Clothes?”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At Care Wears, ethics have always been at the very core of what I do. From the very beginning, I have only used ethically and sustainably produced garments certified by organisations such as @fairwearfoundation, @peta, and @globalorganictextilestandard among others. This ensures safety and ethical practices within the supply chain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These garments are then screen printed by myself with designs made by me. All the finishing touches, like packing your orders or sewing neck labels and attaching tags is also all done by hand by myself 💕 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The goal for the future of Care Wears is to grow in the most sustainable way possible and doing what I can to bring about positive change in the fashion industry. These and the #thriftedandgifted scarf are perfect for a Frida inspired look.  Frida was a disabled woman too who used a #wheelchair at different times in her life. I do too, sometimes, so there we go! Off to hospital for my Medical Botox for #chronicmigraine today. I have #hemiplegicmigraine which repeatedly mimics a #stroke- I haven't been able to walk further than the kitchen for 2 weeks and on Monday struggled to even speak most of the day. 😒 Wish me luck- might not be in this wheelchair by Saturday! 😃 Why? #disabledawareness - not everyone in a wheelchair needs one all the time. Some people can get up and walk some distances too. Perhaps they cannot walk far, perhaps not far without #chronicillness symptoms or pain setting in, perhaps it is just that week or even day you see them that they need their wheels...or they don't. ALL #disabilities are different and for many their disabilities may vary wildly day-to-day. Remember that, gawpers and doubters: educate yourself.... without interrogating the nearest stranger who happens to be disabled!   3. Here's a round up of my #thrifted festival outfits from #boomtown #festival to join #justhriftinwithtee ! All #accessories , including #upcycled stuff, are by me @handcraftedbyteelee Because of my conditions, the fact that I am frequently housebound and don't socialise much, my scooter breaking down (I fixed it!), and really AWFUL ableist comments from a friend of a friend the first night, it took me a while to get into it. However, in the end, I had a great time- sometimes alone, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my husband and his friend. My husband did a great job looking after me as I spent a fair bit of the time overstimulated and suffering. Dark glasses, a cap, earplugs and ear defenders saved me!  Without those and my mobility scooter, I would have been stuck on camp most of the time. Despite these factors, I enjoyed my outfits, had a good dance, reminded myself of how much I love drum and bass, but was relieved to have a good dose of reggae too.  I still hate being in a large group though, so avoided that completely, but met some lovely people around the festival.  It was my first one in years and I learnt a lot.  I already know how to better prepare and what precautions I need to take next year, and also how to participate more in the many exciting things Boomtown has to offer!
