Knaresborough in bloom - if there is such a thing as having too many pictures, this is it, the pictures I took may be 3 weeks ago, my friend and I enjoyed the sunny day in Knaresborough so much, we went on the Marigold boats, and marvelled at tulips, and cherry blossom, and those awesome flowers by the Knaresborough castle that I don't know the name of. Knaresborough is probably my top town to recommend a family visit. Just so perfect 💜💙💚🩵💛❤️

The train spans up to 3km in length, the journey can take upwards of 20 hours across 700km of Sahara Desert. It’s real, raw and uncomfortable. Ski goggles and masks aren’t just props, but a necessity. This train is a necessary mode of transport for locals, but for tourists it’s not tolerated so much.   1. The coast that keeps on giving. Currently in County Kerry, and I think these have been my favourite sea scapes yet. This morning was fun, shooting waves on the beach (not this scene pictured), tentatively approaching closer and closer. I don’t know why I bother with wellies, they end up filled to the brim every time. I used to go in in shorts and bare foot, it was simpler, and I think I’m going to go back to that to save the hassle of soaking wet clothes and wellies.   2. This morning I stopped at what I thought might be one of those honeypot location. 30 second walk from the car and ‘one composition’. What transpired was a place that was actually littered with compositional potential. Not to mention the incoming storm clouds which added that extra bit of atmosphere to the scene. Anyway, now in Galway for an evening of eating and drinking, the Irish hospitality as proved yet again how incomparable it is. After a few recommendations from an Irish colleague, a pint in the Taaffes Bar on Shop Street (the main strip of pubs), Johnny, who was sat on his own, dished out many tales, provided he was lined with his Guinness, and after 2 minutes into a 30 minute conversation about cats, I knew we’d get on just fine, until he leapt up from his chair, realising the time… he’d missed his horse race as a result of our conversations, from which he’d bet a reasonable wod of money. He came 12th. So I treated him to a pint to ease his pain, and we carried on chatting. Why I am against AI I’ve heard people say what’s the harm when it comes to photos and videos and my initial reaction was because they’re claiming it’s real when it’s not, why is that an issue, its just a pretty picture? I’m all for creative but that’s a different thing. It’s making it hard for photographers to stand out… because real photography celebrates a moment, whether it be an amazing encounter with wildlife or a beautiful sunset or a storm kicking up the waves, whatever… these things don’t happen often, which I what makes them special… AI can literally batter out 20 images a day, probably more, which will desensitise us from the true magic that nature creates. I will never choose AI, I love to be out in nature too much and chase and savour these special moments. I can’t escape it completely on social media but I will try my best. I’m all for it in medicine where it can help diagnose patients etc and can actually do some good … but I feel that it devalues any kind of art medium and takes away from the wonder and awe that nature can evoke.

  2. I have to dedicate my birthday post to the ducklings, due to the fact the reel I posted of them has hit 2.1M views. I am completely & utterly overwhelmed. I knew Mondays wedding was special, before the ducklings even appeared. Megan & Ben radiated warmth, happiness & love. Some people have an aura which is hard to explain. They have it. The ducklings live on the estate, & I saw them earlier with their Mother, & heard they had been spotted all week with her. In the evening I took the Bride & Groom back outside for some golden hour shots, & we were completely surprised when all the little ducklings appeared & decided to climb onto Megan’s dress. They then chose to follow us around & stay by our feet & then eventually climb into our hands when placed on the floor. They then started following me as I was walking around the grounds, so I lead them back to the place I last saw their Mother. All in all, it was a beautiful special moment & my favourite thing to ever happen at any wedding; & I have been photographing weddings for 11 years. So thank you little ducklings for choosing to spend time with us & for going viral, which I half joked it would, but never in a million years expected this! 🥹🤍🦆

I always wanted a picture of Tryfan when the light was setting at the end of the day. So, after checking the forecast, I quickly packed my camera bag, hopped in my car, and parked nearby in the Ogwen Valley. Seeing the sun going down quite fast, I rushed up the hill along Afon Lloer, opposite Tryfan, and arrived just as the light disappeared from the mountain's peak. Tryfan Mountain, with the fading light, was the main focus of the photo, but the stile gave foreground interest, and the stone wall running to the right gave some balance to the image. Then, in post-production, I tried to enhance the key features, keeping the photo as natural as possible. Editing can be a daunting experience for some, but it can be easy, too! 1) The first step for any photo I edit is adjusting the basics. First, I have always played with the 'Accent' tool, which is magical. 2) Then, I adjust the exposure, highlights, and shadows. 3) In the case of the Tryfan mountain image, I found that the temperature was good. 4) I then went on to darken the sky with a brush, lowering the exposure. 5) I added contrast and black in certain parts to reveal the clouds' details. 6) I added 'Texture' to the wall and stile to make them 'pop' as they were in the foreground. Adjustments to saturation and some supercontrast to bring out the highlights in some areas, and a vignette to finish off. 7) The most vital steps of my editing process are the basic adjustments, as in changes to exposure, highlights, and shadows. And 'Accent', of course. 8) The most important lesson I learned in photo editing was experimenting with the different sliders. After downloading to Luminar, I always shift the sliders I want to use to the extreme to see their effect and adjust accordingly. 9) I also firmly believe in walking away after editing a photo and returning after a few minutes to look at it again.
