  1. As our country’s moral compass left the building this week, so did my beloved mom. On Wednesday evening, with my dad holding her hand, she crossed over the rainbow🌈. The last few weeks were so brutal that profound relief has washed over me. She is finally free🕊️ My mom was a self-proclaimed odd bird with a rebel heart. She was so many things: a terrible driver, a sun worshipper, a passionate arguer, a disgruntled housewife, a lover of The Royal Family, The Oregon Coast, The 4th of July, conspiracy theories, electric blankets, black licorice, stained glass, libraries, ducks, daisies, amethysts…and it took me almost a lifetime to realize but she was also a fanatic lover of me. Her one & only daughter. Growing up, we clashed more than we connected. We fought like alley cats, holding grudges for months. Using our words as swords. I envied all my friends with their perfect moms who called them “honey” & braided their hair & showed up at every event/game/recital. I spent so many seasons searching for that warmth. And yet now, looking back, being raised by a woman who found Motherhood so difficult & so daunting molded me into who I am. We were divinely matched. My gratitude still runs deep. Alzheimer’s found her way too young. At the beginning, we laughed a lot because it kept us from crying. She would often look at my kids & say puzzled, “Where did all these ridiculous children come from?!” Then my husband would pipe in & reply, “Well, she can’t keep her hands off me!” - to which she would look at me dead-serious & ask, “Oh Tiffany, is that true?!” Comedic relief was our saving grace for a good while before it got really ugly. I think everybody should have long stretches of time where they pour their entire heart into something or someone & expect nothing in return - and that is exactly what I did. With her soul softening & her memory fading, I saw an opening & took it. This could be our second chance & it was. 5 golden years. From 2014-2019, I left our grievances behind, buried the hurt, welcomed her into my world, & wrapped her up as tightly as I possibly could. It was my turn now. I would keep her warm. And I did…until her last breath. Fly high, Mom.

  2. Since our children were babies, we told them love is our religion, nature is our church of choice, & how when the time is right, we trust they’ll embark on a spiritual journey all their own. And we promised to fully support them whatever that may look like. Well today, on Easter Sunday, Memphis got baptized in a traditional church surrounded by stained glass, people who love her, & a pastor with a pulpit. Because in the end, without even realizing it, we also told her…God Exists Everywhere. And stops at nothing to pursue our hearts.💞 ✝️🕊️⛪️🙏🏽

It means nothing.” And while I understand the sentiment, there are some kids who will remember. Their parent(s) will too. It breaks my heart because you are missing out on something that is your birthright. Our ancestors had a deep connection to the Earth, and that connection is still alive within you. Our community deserves to feel safe and held in the outdoors. Whether it’s farming, foraging, swimming, hiking or camping.   2. The greatest weapon you have as a woman is your intuition, when I’m solo camping, this truth still remains. To some a random drone might not seem like a big deal. However, I have no idea who was on the other end of the drone and what their intentions were. I do know that some forest service or hunters use drones but I had to make a judgement call with the information I had. Maybe it would’ve been nothing.   3. Part two solo backpacking Joshua Tree! Throughout all of my solo backpacking journeys, I have committed to keeping my rain fly on no matter how beautiful the weather is, it just makes me feel safer that someone can’t walk by and see me. But during my trip to Joshua tree, there was a really big wind storm at night, my whole entire tent was shaking and rattling. It sounded like someone was trying to break into my tent and I kept getting out to check and there was no one there. I tried to weigh down the rain fly with rocks, but it didn’t really make much of a difference. This continued for hours. I couldn’t get my logical brain and nervous system to connect. I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. After a while, I stood up and I almost thought about packing up and leaving, but I really didn’t want to. I knew that the only way to get the noise stop would be to remove the rain fly and I really contemplated if this was something that I could do. I got at the courage to remove it, and I was able to sleep through the night. In the morning, I couldn’t believe that I did it and I felt really powerful. However, I do not plan to ever do that again lol. #yerbamadrepartner
