  2. Well….the post I was putting off for a few days. I’ll keep it short, simple, and 💯 I was extremely disappointed that I failed to make the Olympic final last week. I felt confident and ready to go heading into Tokyo. It just wasn’t my day and I just wasn’t ready to compete with the worlds best. Never an easy pill to swallow. But I found the sun came up the next day and life goes on. I’ll have a few races left on the schedule this szn that I think you guys will be excited about. I’ll be posting about them in the coming days & weeks. For now, the last slide is my mood heading into Pre Classic next week.   3. As I watched spectators trickle into Jesuit HS warming up last night, I was immediately overwhelmed by the turnout and interest this race sparked with only a 72 hour notice. For the first time in my career I put myself out there on my intentions to get after a record and I felt a little vulnerable. A very fast American Record. When I crossed the line and saw 3:49, a mark over 2 seconds slower than my goal for the night, a mark that hundreds or thousands of people from all over came to watch me break, I felt a sense of disappointment. I wanted to give everyone who came out and tuned in a historic night. I realized I wanted it more for them than for myself. While gathering myself, I was surprised to hear cheers and a loud applause. Did they not see the time? As I jogged around and thanked everyone who came out to make last night a special one, I found myself wanting to say sorry. Sorry for not giving them an American Record that I felt I had promised, but they wouldn’t let me. Instead they told me how proud and excited they were by my attempt. Of my willingness to put it out there, and that they were rooting for me in Tokyo. It was the send-off I didn’t know that I needed. I am proud to represent this country and these fans because nights like this make me remember how much track & field and its fans have given me. Damn, I love this sport.

  2. Day 64 of hiking 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine!! 🥳 Today was not my hardest day on trail. The sun was shining, I was surrounded by friends, but for some reason I was just feeling really down and anxious. It didn’t make sense to me, and I was frustrated with myself for feeling so emotional on such an “easy” day. But the hard days add up, and I think the sleep deprivation on top of some very hot, higher mileage days with a cold I had been fighting left me drained and feeling emotionally vulnerable. Sometimes we just feel how we feel, and it doesn’t have to make sense. I’m so grateful for the friends who cared for me and supported me and even walked with me as I made my way out of the funk. This trail is challenging. This trail is healing. We’ve been joking a lot lately about how the worst part of the trail is the hiking because our crew of characters has such a wonderful time together hanging out at camp and snack breaks.   3. Never did I think taking on 3 kids from 2 other males would be easy. What I was sure of, the woman connected to them was worth it all. I am not these kids biological father, they have those. What I will be is the best example of a quality human being, always show them how to treat their mother with respect and support them in any way I can during their development. Coming from a split home myself, I know it’s not easy on youngsters, but in todays world sadly, it’s pretty common. So Christina and I will always remain unfazed by any outside noise and save the kids from any unnecessary trauma. Christina is a very driven and incredible woman who has an ability to brush anything off and keep herself composed while being a positive influence in these kids lives while achieving success in anything she does. I admire her greatly for that…especially watching my own mother do the same for my siblings and I growing up, I can appreciate it. There is a lot that goes on in personal lives that isn’t for public consumption, therefore not shared, kept private. So trust me as someone who likes to keep a low profile, no one except those directly involved knows jack about any situation more than them. 2 sides and the truth. I will always protect her, keep her safe and no one will hurt her with me in the picture. She doesn’t bother anyone, she deserves the same in return. I will ensure that’s the case.

  2. 11.1.2024 - 10 yards off the ground! The winds picked up with gusts above 30 mph and switching directions around midday. Those conditions are perfect for still-hunting bedding areas. Not to mention, I was kind of looking forward to it after sitting in a tree so much. I started working my way around the ridge, finding really hot sign - a great rub with some beech saplings broke off. Perfect, I could smell rutting buck. The wind was coming out of the cut, which led me to find a way into it. The cut was very thick with briars, beech brush, and other saplings making it difficult to stay quiet. Any time I would snap a stick or make a loud noise, I would grunt immediately. On @spartan.forge I could see a transition between cuts. One side grew back thicker than the other, which made me think that the line would be perfect bedding. I hit that line, and almost immediately smelled deer again. I heard what sounded like two deer bump within 40 yards from me, but couldn’t see them. It didn’t seem like a hard bump, or maybe they weren’t bumped by me at all. I grunted and slowly crept forward. Once I got to the beds they were in, I actually picked a tree about 20 yards away that I was going to climb, but decided to stay on the ground for the day. I got just below the tree in a small, small opening - waiting. A few minutes go by and I hear grunting moving in my direction. First I see the doe - she’s already at 12 yards. Then the buck comes straight in front of me, and he’s already at 10 yards. It’s thick! I determine he’s a shooter, and got ready. He started feeding on some briars, and took a step into a baseball size opening where is vitals were. I put the pin on his shoulder as he was quartering to, and released the arrow. Shot looked good and he only ran 20-25 yards before piling up in the brush.   3. Our family gets together on the second Saturday of the Pennsylvania gun season to help whoever still has a tag. This typically involves wind bumps and drives. We don’t typically operate in big groups, so the drives are planned out with wind, potential escape routes, and safe zones in mind. We’ve learned a lot about how deer, especially bucks escape during drives. Each area has its own set of guidelines based on seeing what they’ve done in the past, based on other hunting pressure. On the first drive of the day, I took the high line on the ridge, keeping the other drivers in line since I was the most familiar with the area. During that, I saw a couple of bucks heading into a thicket on top. We readjusted for the second one. While the drivers were waiting for the posters to get in position and setup, we thought we heard a gun shot. Shortly after, my phone buzzed with a text from my sister-in-law, Abbie. “Buck down!” We hadn’t even started pushing yet, and the Buck came walking in unbothered with a doe. We continued with the drive, and once we got to Abbie, I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful 7 point that I’ve had on trail camera for a few years. Big body, chocolate rack; just an awesome mountain buck. It was Abbie’s first PA buck in 10 years, as her and my brother @kurt_the_gunsmith had just moved back to PA last year. We celebrated the deer, quartered him up, and packed him back to the truck to head out to a new area for the next drive. That night, we had deer heart, and Backstrap for dinner at camp.   2. I live on the top of a mountain and never see coyotes this high, only at the bottom and never in packs. I took my dogs out not knowing there were coyotes outside. My GSD was about to sprint in their direction, but listened so well! My little Havanese, too! Can someone please tell me what these coyotes were doing? Was this a feeding call? They were so loud and I fear they were attacking a dog. I don’t have a lot of coyotes in northwestern NJ and am not used to coyote sounds like this. Is there anything I can do to keep them away? My GSD has already been attacked by a black bear. An attack by a pack makes me fearful for her life and mental health (she already has PTSD).
