  1. I wish everyone would just answer my questions… * @rachelnotrach_ has functional neurological disorder. Some disabilities you see at Wheelwod you can’t actually see. Some people suffering with chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and other disabilities. Most people would look at them and not even realize they are dealing with huge challenges. @awilson1318 suffered a spinal chord injury years ago. She has no hip function. There are many different spinal cord injuries. Some complete, incomplete, and some higher or lower on the spine. All factors will alter their capacity in different ways. @pillowhead321 suffered a spinal chord injury. He has hip function. @emilycairnsfit erbs palsy brachial plexus issue causing limited function and strength of arm/hand. (Mostly hand for Emily) @yoitscurly has Fredrick’s ataxia which is a neuro degenerative disease. There is no cure and treatment is all about managing symptoms. Curly will lose more function as time goes on. * One thing they all have in common is they don’t make any excuses.   2. Opening at 275 is absolutely ridiculous. * I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - it is incredible to see the numbers these athletes are hitting. The fact that 300lbs snatches are just getting thrown around at every competition now is freaking wild. * I still remember when 300 was hit for the first time at a CrossFit comp. It was HUGE news. * @dallinpepper just making 275 look like a warm up weight.

  3. The craziest thing has happened this month. Cars drive by super slow to see what workout I’m crushing in the garage. I take this opportunity to let them know it’s CrossFit and they are always welcome to come try. * Also I’m getting pretty fast. I can keep up with most cars as they drive away. They always look surprised at how fast I am. * No one has showed up to workout with me yet - but it’s only a matter of time.

  1. Just over three weeks ago I resigned my position with CrossFit. Today, I could not be happier to make the announcement that I am returning. Walking away from something I spent so many years helping build; my livelihood, the only career I’ve known and a team whom I love dearly, was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make; both personally & professionally. While it may have appeared that a single issue or instance prompted my leaving, this was not the totality of it. However, that’s in the past. At this time, I want to focus on the present and my hope for the future. I am greatly encouraged by the conversations I’ve shared with @rozaeric over the last couple of weeks. In fact, with each interaction, I’m filled with ever more optimism. There is hope and healing in the air for the community. There is an authentic commitment to Leadership, mending relationships, innovating forward, and restoring a sense of pride in the CrossFit name. I want to be part of this future. Finally, I can’t even begin to say thank you enough to everyone for their messages of love and support; many of them made me cry but all filled dark days with much needed light. Thank you.   2. 19.1 in the books!⁣ ⁣ This year is a little different for me as I will not be doing the formal Open Tips. This is due to the changes in the Open Show format as well as a personal weighing & balancing of demands on my time for training, family, and a hefty set of “other”/ primary work responsibilities.⁣ ⁣ I am looking forward to enjoying & sharing the Open with those around me in a more relaxed way with this year. My scores likely won’t be at the level they were last year, but of course I’ll still be posting them up and maybe even share some informal ‘lessons learned’ from the workouts. ⁣ ⁣ For example: 19.1… IF I were to do it again on Monday, which is highly unlikely, here’s what I’d do differently: ⁣ ⁣ ☑️I’d get a clearer sense of my best sustainable row pace going in and try to maintain it from the start. @crossfitbtwb has a nifty chart to help with this; ⁣ ⁣ ☑️I’d expect the wall ball to get HARD and to have to break them up, even into small sets, but I’d force quick rests and give no option to walk away from the wall; i.e. no “traveling rests”; ⁣ ⁣ ☑️Since it’s only 9’ for the Wall Ball (for us women at least) and we are dealing with two movements requiring big leg drive, I’d focus on keeping my feet on flat on the ground and pressing a bit more than usual with the arms (vs. jumping as aggressively through the legs); ⁣ ⁣ ☑️I’d take as many deliberate deep breaths as I could right from the start and as often as possible throughout. ⁣ ⁣ And I’d remind you….   3. ... Part 2: The Nasty Girl who Cried . In the same vein as the OHS demos, there was this workout #nastygirls #circa2005 Apparently, women did not do muscle-ups, or anything else on the rings for that matter, but no one had told us that. So we just did them. A lot of them. For the first time in a workout, at a time when the muscle-up was a skill very few people in our community had, male or female. . CrossFit has surprisingly exacting tools at its disposal for creating healthy individuals & communities. One of them is the opportunity to work so hard in front of one another that we lose, and witness others losing, some semblance of the death grip on our tidy, protective layers. We become vulnerable & exposed for those fundamental things that make us all the same; a convulsion of sorts toward our shared humanity. . When this is cultivated consciously in service of the health of others (all facets, not just physical), an environment of authenticity, humility, inclusivity, and respect “happens”. . From the beginning, whether male or female, people’s capabilities (physical & intellectual) were not underestimated. Genuine hard work - meeting the challenges at hand with all your effort - was valued above everything else. Differences were not denied and neither was special exception offered because of them. Instead limits simply were not set - not on expectation or opportunity - thus making way for infinite Possibility. . This is what I mean when I talk about Equality. . #CrossFit

  2. First they came for the trans community…and I’ve read the whole poem so I used my voice to speak up. I never expected my last post to explode to over 300k views and thousands of comments - and while I’ve been bombarded with thousands of comments and messages of the most heinous (yet uncreative) variety, the love has been ten fold. I even had celebrities in my inbox? I’m an educator, author, doctoral candidate researcher, trans activist, wildlife rehabber and kitten foster, and otherwise pretty normal guy, so I never expected I’d go viral for speaking out against injustice in CrossFit of all spaces? But I am grateful for the opportunity to use this momentum to continue spreading awareness and educational content - it was the boost I needed to feel courageous enough to share beyond the stories I usually just post for my friends. Though I no longer will respond to comments on it as I will not try explain myself (or logic) to people so committed to hatred and misunderstanding, I remain committed to keeping comments open on that post so that people can see how emboldened folks are to behave so horrifically.   3. I don’t have fancy equipment, I’m not super skilled in making reels, and I’m clearly more comfortable in front of a classroom than a camera, but our voices have power so here is mine. This new policy is a shameful and dangerous step backward. How dare CrossFit start the season claiming “We Open TOGETHER” after implementing rule 9.01? Their own website references “inclusion,” “community,” and “sense of belonging” throughout. It’s clear that trans and nonbinary athletes don’t fit into their idea of community. I’m left wondering if HQ consulted with a single transgender athlete before writing and implementing this rule without a word? Let’s hold them accountable. Share this video. Tag HQ and athletes that support inclusion. Demand they rescind this rule and refocus their energy where it matters: ensuring athlete safety and fostering a truly inclusive community. Last year a professional athlete died in front of a crowd at the biggest event of the year. It’s true that there are threats to CF athletes. Transgender people becoming the best version of themselves in the gym are not one of them. I won’t stop until every athlete, regardless of who they are, has the right to compete. CrossFit, it’s time to do better. Trans rights are human rights - in and out of the box, on and off the competition floor.   2. I’ve never understood relativity more than I’ve learned to in the past year. 🫶🏽🥹 ___ I’m guilty of posting the girls. A lot. To some, that’s inappropriate. I feel you on that. BUT, if anything if Happens to me, foreseen or otherwise, I want them to always be able to find me. I want them to always be able to hear my voice. I want them to always see how daddy loved on them, what he loved doing, and how he loved people and interacted with them. I long for that daily with my own mother.   3. 3 years ago in September I remember the exact moment I had a “prodigal son” feeling when my mom passed away. I was so angry. I begged God to show up. To save her. I thought If for anyone, she deserved a miracle. Since then, I’ve let this feeling, this anger, bleed into every part of my life. I lost an unexplainable joy, my Anchor, the thing that brought my mom and I close- Drawing near to God. I’d say I walked away, but it was a run. A deliberate distancing. I’ve ruined relationships, I’ve treated people horribly, or at best differently, projecting the poison I felt on the inside onto others. I can’t go back and erase those times, and I’ve spent many days eaten with guilt and Shame. I’ve lost my family (for reasons way before my mom passed away, as I was a coward, a liar, and a genuine piece of garbage). I’ve spent many a day feeling as though I had absolutely nothing to live for here outside of my girls, and at times planning an exit. Because I felt I wasn’t worthy of forgiveness or love from myself, from people, and definitely not from God. My mom always said, “Baby, who you are is wonderful, But WHO’S you are is what’ll carry you.” I came home today. I still can’t go back. But as I walk forward, I can leave dead things behind. I can lay things at the feet of God and find peace there. Thank you to the friends and family that have supported and tolerated me through this season of life. We definitely aren’t done or out of the wilderness, but I remember who goes before me now. Love. Forgive. Without limit or prerequisite. Yourself included. You are loved, cherished, and forgiven, even when you don’t feel it’s deserved. ❤️

  1. there’s a wholeee lot of fails that go into my single muscle up.. I had PLENTY of videos to choose from here🤣 — I’ve never enjoyed ring muscle ups. They feel SO hard to work on early in the morning and I have yet to find that one little thing that makes them feel smooth. As frustrating as they are, I’ve recently started making myself work on them at least a couple times a week. And while I’m NOWHERE near making them feel nice & easy, I’m a heck of a lot closer than I was earlier this year. 🙌🏻 So for now, I’ll keep practicing & pray that I don’t fall through the rings anymore🤣🙏🏼 — #mondaymotivation #duespaid #iam1stphorm #ringmuscleup #progressnotperfection

  3. Tuesday’s biggest bombshell surprise wasn’t on Capitol Hill, but in our family, when Lane Loree Haake arrived in dramatic fashion, weeks early, to the delight of her parents. Lanie gave us a scare at first, and spent her first few days under the loving watch of the Sibley Special Care Nursery, working on her breathing, and charming everyone who met her with her blonde hair & sugary sweet attitude. I’m so grateful to the Hospital staff, and especially to Allison for her heroic labor & delivery, and her love and patience now as a mom. Welcome Lanie. Your dad loves you so, so much.
