  3. 10/20/24 - the day it went down. Part 2/2 From the time the bull was seen to the time I shot was about 1 minute and 30 seconds. As long as the day was, when the action happened, it happened fast. First, just the backs of the elk were visible. Then, they all came running in, but headed up the hill on the other side of the water. I thought that was it, that they were going to move off and out of range. They all stopped. Turned. And starting running back down to the water. I drew my bow back knowing that this was it, this was my opportunity and I had to be ready. He came in, I adjusted, and he locked up looking straight at me. 3 seconds was all I had to get that shot otherwise it was going to be gone as well as my chances at punching my archery tag. I held steady, I locked in and I absolutely smoked my shot. He was slightly quartering-to, so I tucked my arrow right up tight behind the shoulder to where I’d hit the vitals, but miss the shoulder blade. Vitals were hit and he didn’t even run 50 yards before he expired. Patience paid off and my first archery elk tag was punched 🏷️✔️🏹🤎

It's about making a decision. 🏔 This thought has been rattling around in my head today. 🏔 Someone asked me yesterday how I stay motivated to get out the door during the cold and dark winter months. I quickly stated some platitude about enjoying the process and finding motivation within. While these old adages are true, the reality is that it's no longer about motivation or inspiration for me - it's about having made a choice. Years ago I committed to the process of being the best athlete I could be, and since I’ve crossed that bridge motivation no longer seems to have much of an influence on my daily actions. For a journalist, writers block magically disappears when a deadline looms. And for a runner, motivation becomes moot when you fully commit yourself to the daily grind. This choice has made all the difference in my pursuits and allowed me to aim so much higher. 🏔 In other news, today is the global launch day of @thenorthface #Vectiv footwear! I'm proud to have had a small part in the design process along side my trail running teammates and am really excited about the final product.
