  3. My wife, Harriet, and I love to go bicycle riding together. In fact, bicycle riding has been one of our family’s favorite pastimes for decades. In the 1980s my wife went with me on my flights to Beijing, China. As I had some extra time there, we explored some cities on bicycles. It’s a wonderful way to get to know the world around you and get some exercise while also spending time together. While we ride (and I’m not huffing and puffing too much), we enjoy the beautiful world around us and even engage in a pleasant conversation. Rarely do we have to pay much attention to keeping our balance on our bicycles. We’ve been riding long enough now that we don’t even think about that—it has become natural for us. But whenever I watch someone learning to ride a bike for the first time, I’m reminded that it’s not easy balancing yourself on those two narrow wheels. It takes time. It takes practice. It takes patience. It even takes falling down a time or two. Most of all, those who succeed in balancing on a bicycle learn this important tip: Don’t look at your feet. Look ahead. Keep your eyes on the road in front of you. Focus on your destination. And get pedaling. Staying balanced is all about moving forward. Similar principles apply when it comes to finding balance in our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. How to distribute your time and energy among your many important tasks will vary from person to person and from one season of life to another. But our common overall objective is to follow the Way of our Master, Jesus Christ, and return to the presence of our beloved Father in Heaven. This objective must remain constant and consistent, whoever we are and whatever else is happening in our lives. For Harriet and me, we learned that while striving to become better disciples of Jesus Christ, there may be some bumps in the road that can cause any of us to momentarily lose our balance. But if we keep pedaling, keeping our sight on the divine goal in the distance, the Savior will always be there to help us regain or keep our balance on His Way back to our heavenly parents.

  1. As a parent, I don’t think of many scriptures more than the Lord of the vineyard weeping and saying “What more could I have done for my vineyard?” . Part of me deeply relates. And another part of me feels frustrated when I think of it in context— the Lord of the vineyard being Christ or God, they are literally, perfectly taking care of it. But me? I’m not. I make mistakes every single day in my little part of the vineyard. Maybe I forget to water. Or I hate dunging. Or I grafted wrong. Or I was too harsh with the pruners. Like just today, when my son broke the window screen and it just feels like everything in our house is getting broken and me and my “pruners” got carried away. But in those moments I love thinking about Christ looking at me and all my imperfections and saying “spare her a little longer.” (Jacob 5:50) Maybe that’s one of the most important parts of this analogy—not giving up, on yourself or others. Because Christ doesn’t. It helps me realize that I am not meant to be the master of the vineyard. We already have a master—and He is working perfectly in our lives and the lives of those around us. Our job is to just keep loving. Keep saying sorry. Keep trying. And never give up. . The parable of the olive tree is a story of compassion. . And even though I am not a perfect servant, or a perfect tree—however you want to take the analogy, Our God is a God of “wait a little longer.” Who weeps and loves. Who never stops working hard for us. Who knows when we or our loved ones are in a “poor spot” for that minute or that day or our whole lives and will nourish us extra to make up the difference. Truly, “God is in relentless pursuit of you. He wants all of His children to return home to Him, and He employs every possible measure to bring you [and your children] back.” (Elder Kearon) Art @foxandpebble

  3. It was my first year of marriage and we only had one car and I was speeding to campus to pick my husband up and take him to work, which he would now be late for. In my mind, I came up with 1000 reasons why I was late. Bracing for frustration, ready to justify my actions. Michael opened the car door and my words and excuses started spilling out. But he stopped me and said, “Mary, don’t worry. I know it must have been important. I love you.” And suddenly, all my excuses seemed weak compared to his love. All of my fears dissolved in his confidence in me. But a funny thing happened as well, I realized then, in his love and confidence, more than I could have ever in his disapproval or reproach, that I COULD have done better. That my excuses were just that, excuses. I wanted to be there. Always. On time. His faith in me brought change so much faster than his chastisement ever would have. That is something that I love about the story of Nephi breaking his bow. His father, the PROPHET, is murmuring. And yet, Nephi didn’t condemn him or chastise. He just asked his father where he should go to hunt. His faith in his father brought Lehi to his knees much faster than disdain ever could have. As Sister Runia said, “On rare occasions we may feel prompted to correct, but most often let’s tell our loved ones in spoken and unspoken ways the messages they long to hear: “Our family feels whole […] because you are in it.” “You will be loved […] no matter what.” . Christ is the perfect example of this, saying to the woman caught in adultery “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” (John 8:11) Let us give people love and confidence, giving them the strength to get up and go and sin no more, rather than keeping them down and condemning them. If Jesus didn’t throw the first stone, then surely we don’t have to either. Remembering “love is the greatest power and will have the most powerful influence.” (President Dalton) Art @kevincardenart

  1. Greg and I had no idea why we received an invitation to @russellmnelson office. . We sat down on the couch and listened as President Nelson shared stories of my grandparents. He was the Stake President who extended the call for them to serve a mission to Fiji in the 1960s. . It was a daunting call. . He spoke first of my Grandma Belle, with an e. “She was regal,” he said with a twinkle in his eye, “I wondered how Belle would survive.” . Then he talked about my Grandpa Mickey. My grandpa never prayed in church before they left on that mission, but he spoke in Stake Conference the day after he returned. “I don’t know how long it took your grandpa to believe, but I know he did when he died.” . That mission changed them. . It was daunting, but they accepted the Lord’s call. . After the stories, President Nelson slid forward on his chair and looked deep into my eyes. . “You really believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ don’t you?” . “I really do,” I replied simply. . To which he replied, “You have been called to serve as the General Young Women’s President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” . That’s when the tears started to fall. . A daunting call. . One I wondered if I was equipped for. . President Nelson invited Greg to take a flower out of the arrangement behind him so I would remember the day of my call. . Greg chose one white peony. . And what are the odds a peony was in that Christmas bouquet? . As we prepared to leave, President Nelson reached out for my hand, he leaned in and whispered close, “You have Mickey’s eyes.” . It was the sweetest moment of the entire conversation. . Because I’m sure Belle and Mickey felt just like I did when they walked out of President Nelson’s office sixty years ago. . Scared. . But they embraced the call. . And I won’t forget the Fijian family who showed up at my Grandma’s graveside service decades later to sing. . They fell in love with the people they served. . And already, I feel that same love. . To the Young Women all over the world, I love you. We are about to embark on an amazing journey. The Lord has a great work in store for us. . Extraordinary adventures await.

  1. Update: prints now available on my website - linked in my story ❤️ The 2025 Mother’s Day Collection is on its way! The new collection will be launching April 10th. I’m so happy to introduce the first piece in the collection. This piece is a new version of a painting I created last year titled ‘I’ll Always Help You Grow’. I had so many requests for a three generation version of that piece, and could not wait to paint this. I am so happy with how it turned out! This concept was originally inspired by my own mother who diligently nurtured me as a young child. She poured everything into me and helped me to flourish. I am so endlessly grateful for her, especially because as I’ve gotten older I have realized how pouring into all of her children took away so much of her time and ability to water herself. I am in awe as I watch my sisters nurture and pour into their own babies, and I love seeing how my mom continually nurtures my sisters in their adulthood. They have their own babies, but they will never stop being her babies. This piece is dedicated to my mama and my sisters. Mom, it is a great joy and privilege to be watered by your unconditional love. Thank you for always helping me grow and flourish. To my sisters; it is a joy to watch you pour into your babies with that same love. I see your blooming even more beautifully as you help their little buds sprout and grow. This piece will be available on April 10th! If there are any other hair/skin color variations you’d like to see, please let me know in the comments 🫶🏼🫶🏼

  2. I have never in my life felt so many emotions in such a short time. I have never cried so many tears. I have never felt so much self-loathing and regret, despair, anger, FEAR, hopelessness, and deep deep sadness. I haven’t slept but 3-4 restless hours in so many nights (well before Kim’s passing). I have felt like a zombie...barely alive, but walking. Everything reminds me of something I told her I’d do but forgot, something I could have done better, or worse yet something we were going to do soon or had planned out. EVERYTHING hurts. And everything I see do or say makes it hurt worse. When does this immense pain stop? How long must I wait until I can walk around my house without crying? And then how long until I can talk to people without breaking down? How long until the constant ache leaves me? I am SO thankful for my family and close friends! Kim built a safety net for me to fall into. As I go through her study journals, gratitude journals, and papers lying around, I realize how much more amazing she is than I ever knew. She did so much more than she ever told me! She loved me more than I knew...she wrote about it! Oh, I miss her so deeply. I am extremely grateful that her life was so well-documented. But for now, it hurts too much to go through pictures and thoroughly read her journals etc. It makes it worse! I have to force myself to eat because I know my body needs it...but I have no desire for food and it brings no pleasure when I eat it. Hensleigh keeps telling me,”Daddy, please don’t be so sad! We just have to be strong and try not to think about it for a while. Let’s go watch a movie to get our minds off of things”. Don’t worry, that little girl is doing really well. She comforts me and holds me. She has had a few breakdowns but keeps it together during the day. This morning, I rolled out of bed late...really late. And when I got up, I thought of how much Kim would have already accomplished by that time and I smiled. I knelt and prayed, giving God thanks for allowing me almost 12 years with this fantastic woman. I then meditated, did some affirmations, and put on my running clothes...and ran in the sun! #doitforkim #idoitforkim #livelikekim

  3. Obituary Part One One of earth’s truly beautiful souls was called home this Valentines Day. Kimberly Lynn White—or as many knew her, Kimcankickit—was a bright light in an all-too-often dark world. The 32 yr old wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend lived a highly-concentrated life catalyzed by her diagnosis of a very rare and especially aggressive form of cancer in 2014. Kim loved pushing her body. Her athletic prowess earned her a soccer scholarship to Iowa Western Community College where her scoring ability caught the eyes of coaches at The University of Iowa. She was offered a full-ride scholarship to keep using her skills at the Division 1 level. After a gruesome knee injury she thought her life was over. But within weeks she met her soul mate, Treagan White, who was in his second year of dental school. Kim earned her Bachelors of Sciences degree in Health Coaching. After mourning one late term miscarriage on the date of their dental school graduation, they finally welcomed their daughter Hensleigh into the world in 2012. They felt inspired to move to Utah after school despite not having any concrete reasons. After finding a home and announcing another pregnancy, Kim suddenly started having heart palpitations and losing her breathe during daily activities. In the following years she would endure 50+ surgeries and procedures. For six years she beat the sinister disease—despite being given a poor prognosis and a life sentence of 2-3 months—while blossoming into a world-wide inspiration through her unwillingness to let her mind succumb to this corporal contamination. She used her influence to reveal God’s existence in the details of our lives, to encourage each of us to be grateful for our flawed body, and to embolden all to take control of their own life’s direction. Most couldn’t tell she was ill or that she was in terrible pain because she shunned the negative and strived to emit only positivity, light and happiness. She was conscious of her flaws but furiously fought to overcome them. She adored her family and friends and loved to be with them. She lived for her daughter who gave her the will to fight........
