  1. Science is not up for debate— here’s a brief explanation of why the LA fires were so unprecedented. **correction: many invasive species in LA are ANNUALS (not perennials) meaning that they die every year** Climate change did not start the fires. However, we are living in a new type of climate which has been altered by our use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gases over the last 100 years. Scientists just confirmed this month that we surpassed 1.5 degrees of planetary warming for the first time last year. These fires are unprecedented, but so is this new climate we live in. Any normal weather and climate patterns that humans are used to have now changed. Without the chaotic, climate-change-induced weather conditions we were in, these fires would not have been quite as intense. At the same time, our relationship with the land is incredibly broken. We think that we can control nature, that we can bring non-native species to balanced ecosystems, that we can ignore Indigenous wisdom and exert dominion over the land. Southern California knows fire well, this land and these ecosystems evolved alongside fire. When we learn to build our society in alignment with ecosystems, we will begin to find ease. As long as we continue to abuse and exploit this planet without giving her back everything that she’s given us, we will continue learning painful lessons. I’ve lived in LA since 2019, and I am feeling so much grief for this city. There needs to be a real conversation about ecological grief because many of us here are feeling it intensely. If you can, please check mutualaidla.org for ways to help those hurting and needing our help the most. And check out groups like @californianativeplantsociety who are already working to regenerate the land with native species. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

  1. Holding space with that. So much of womanhood—especially Black womanhood—is about waiting. Waiting for others to celebrate us, to honor us, to see us. It’s what we were taught, and yet, so often, that celebration feels out of reach. It’s clawed, fought for, and hard-earned. That’s why I love this tweet by @thekayanova. When I first read it, something immediately clicked. It reminded me that I am in the driver’s seat of my life. There’s nothing wrong with being celebrated by others—it’s beautiful and necessary, especially for Black women, because community and showing up for each other are so important. We are each other’s mirrors, so that’s real. But waiting? Waiting for love, for a job, for a house, for the “big moments”? Anchoring our lives around those fleeting milestones isn’t sustainable. I’ve had to take the reins back and ask myself: Who am I outside of those moments? I’m more than just a checklist. I’m more than the days marked by applause. Right? ….right?? Even on my hardest days—the ones no one sees—that’s when I’m most deserving of celebration. The mornings I get out of bed despite it all? They deserve an award. The small joys I create for myself? Those are sacred. And I owe it to myself that to honor me. A few weeks ago, after a really good meeting at work that was on a really hard morning, I didn’t wait for someone to tell me I’d done a good job or to spoil me. I grabbed a bagel, went to the park, and listened to my favorite podcast in the car. I took control of my own joy, and it made everything feel more meaningful. I was present and happy and that’s all that mattered. This season, let’s remember that “spoiling yourself” doesn’t have to be extravagant. It doesn’t have to be tied to money - but it can, sis. It’s about intention. It’s about healing yourself, soothing yourself, and holding space for the you that’s here right now. You deserve to be seen. You deserve to be celebrated. And most of all, you deserve to create joy on your terms. #BlackJoy #selfhealing #IntentionalLiving #SelfCareForBlackWomen #createyourownhappiness #blackgirlhealing #blackgirljoy

  2. Read the room! I am a grown, 36-year-old woman who cried into my mother’s arms yesterday, asking her, ‘Why do they think we are beneath them?’ My mom, at 62, held me like I was still her baby, but she had no answers for me. She cried, too. This election loss isn’t just a political defeat; it’s a deeply personal, systemic trauma—one that reaches across generations of Black women, from those older than me to young girls watching all of this unfold. This isn’t just disappointment; it’s psychological trauma, the kind that runs deep and shakes us to our core. I get it—people want to show they were on the right side of history, and that’s a very human need. But here’s the thing: blue bracelets, “I voted” badges, and another women’s march? The time for that kind of organizing was months ago. Years, even. Change doesn’t come from isolated gestures; it requires sustained, communal action. That’s what’s missing—a true convergence of efforts, a collective push that isn’t happening right now. I can only speak for myself, but as a Black woman in America, I am tired. Many of us are tired. Some of us showed up to work today, cried in our cars, then walked in with a brave face. We are grappling with real grief, real trauma, and the bitter reality that our labor often feels invisible. This is not the time to ask for more from us. If you’re looking for ways to act, I’m happy to tag organizers who are doing impactful work. But please understand that even this small act is a lot—it’s about all I have left to give right now. I signed up for this, as a creator who wants to share wellness from the vantage point of the most marginalized people, but I cannot. And I will not. Approve of your friendship bracelet as a get out of jail free badge! As Malcolm X once said, ‘The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.’ This is our reality, and we need more than symbols of solidarity—we need collective, meaningful change. But most of all, we need a break. #RestIsResistance #CollectiveAction #allyship #ReadTheRoom #ElectionAftermath #antiracism #antiracist #wellnesswarrior #blackgirlsrock #blackgirlhealing

  3. WHERE MY WIDOWS AT!? Or even divorcees!! Anyone who’s lost the loves of their life and are trying to rebuild. Tell me everything you feel about love after loss! It’s too much to type and I have so many thoughts… but let’s start here. It’s an ever evolving beautiful shit show. Dating after you lose your person is an impossible thought at first. Then it sort of transforms into curiosity… that eventually morphs into “am I going to be alone forever!?” panic. For me panic subsided quickly and I moved into a bit of carelessness. That was also short lived and followed by “it’s time to be alone and heal!” I’ve learned so much about myself, about forgiveness, about setting boundaries, about only offering my energy to someone who will hold my energy just as sacred and special as I hold theirs. I’m not in a relationship and the dating apps… they make me want to vomit haha. ZERO judgement if you love them!! I tried and it felt overwhelming to me- so I disappeared from that scene. BUT!! I’ve already had some incredible experiences, met remarkable humans (and some rotten ones too! If you’re a widow, I know you know what I’m saying!) I’ve experienced memories I’ll cherish forever, some regrets I wish I could have avoided but probably needed to have. I’ve died and been reborn over and over and over it feels like. Here’s where I’m really proud of myself!!! I lost my soulmate, my love of almost 20 years, the person I built an entire life with, had children with, I also lost my baby who was my person. BUT here I am a couple years later feeling open to love. Being open to love also means I’m vulnerable to the possibility of having my heart ripped out of my chest again. That’s brave af 💪🏼 Anyways, so much love and fun and adventure to come and I’m going to LIVE every bit of it the way that Race would want me to; with my full heart. Ps. I don’t wish it on you! #livewild #loveafterloss
