  3. This week, from a quiet vantage point in the White Mountains. Ice, silently beginning to form on the small lake, gives away what time of the year it is. The hardwood trees are now bare, the mountains are powdered with light coatings of frost and snow every evening on the summits. Winter's coming.   3. I don’t share much yet about my motherhood journey on here. Mostly because I have been just soaking in every moment. I love being a mom. It’s crazy how much a baby changes your life. Everyone says it and you’ll hear it all the time but there’s no love like loving your baby. I’m not about the fluff with you guys nor have I ever been. I share pretty much all of my life with you guys on here, because when I ask you to be vulnerable + honest behind my camera , it’s only fair to do the same. Owning a business and having a baby has been pretty difficult. There’s a lot of guilt that goes along with it all. when I’m not with him, I feel I should be with him. When I’m not doing things for my clients/with the business, I feel like I should be. It’s been this weird little dance I’ve been trying to figure out. It’s like learning to ballroom dance when I was younger and I’m in the beginning stages where you keep tripping over your feet but I’m sure once I learn the steps, it’ll be free flowing. I’ve had a few people ask how I do it. How I handle it all. Honestly, no different than you. It’s hard, there are hard days but there’s also really beautiful east days that make it so worth it. I find that a person can handle as many things as long as they’re all priorities to them. I would never change being a business owner. I feel like I was born for it. I also would never change being a mom. I feel like that’s my true purpose in life. The newest and cutest thing happening in our world is Wes has just learned how to stand up, with us holding him. He gets the proudest smile when he stands and sucks in all this air like he’s surprised but instead, he just makes this cute little noise + let’s out a squeal. 🥹 my heart. I can’t.   3. In may of 2000 I did my first tattoo on a person. I had gotten an apprenticeship at a nearby shop and had been working a full time job and apprenticing for a year before I even got to touch a person. I tattooed my friend Josiah. I worked on an anime piece for 5 hours. Today that same piece would take me about 45 minutes. 😅 At this point it’s been 22 years since I’ve been tattooing. I’ve owned my shop @grimnorth_tattoo for 10 years. I couldn’t be more thankful for my crazy life. There’s so many twists and turns, ups and downs. But I’m so thankful to have an amazing job surrounded by my family (and my team) @jmwulfe @joshuabelanger @grimnorthpiercing and @rowanwulfe. @joshuabelanger and I met in high school art class, and @grimnorthpiercing and I met in HS math class where she essentially did my homework for me. It’s not a coincidence that Steph is still doing my math work and helping me run my business 😂 and @joshuabelanger and I have been making art together for over 25 years now. @jmwulfe is my constant support and inspiration. 22 years is a long time to do any job, nevertheless one that’s so harsh on the body, and I’m so thankful to all of you who support my art and love and passion.   1. Two years ago today, I finished hiking all 11 national scenic trails. The first woman and 6th person to accomplish that goal. While I had hiked most of the trails just because I wanted to experience them, the last four (Potomac, North Country, Ice Age, Natchez Trace) were hiked with the goal of finishing the list. I struggled with the sections that weren’t as scenic, that had a lot of road walking and overgrown trail. It’s a different way of hiking. They taught me to dig deeper, to use my will power, to look for the things that are worthwhile. The rare sighting of a tiger salamander in North Dakota, the giant trillium flowers in Wisconsin, the history along the Potomac and Natchez Trace. But most of all the kindness of the people along the trail and those who supported me online and in person. I am mostly drawn to the wild places and remote trails but those more urban trails showed me a different beauty. I count myself fortunate to still be in touch with so many of the good people I’ve met along the way. In the past two years I’ve been rehiking some trails, discovering some new ones. I feel at home on a hiking trail. Life off trail is challenging. Next year’s plan is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail again. Probably in a bit of a patchy way to allow some work time in spring. .   2. Day 1: 4.6 miles Back where it all began almost 22 years ago! The southern terminus of the pacific crest trail. We got picked up by Trail Angel Bad Santa and arrived at the border around 3:45pm. The border monument has been rotated and now no longer has the border wall as the background. I like it better this way. No register to write our starting thoughts. We say goodbye to Bad Santa and start our hike. It’s sunny but cool, perfect hiking weather. We enjoy the sage and chaparral, and the cool boulders. I’m pleasantly surprised to see two flowing streams I grab a bit of water for cooking at the last one, making sure I’ll have two liters left for tomorrow’s 10 miles to the next water. The sunset is beautiful and we walk about 30 minutes with our headlamps on before we decide we don’t like hiking in the dark all that much. We miss seeing the scenery and I’m afraid to trip. We find a good campsite and settle in for the night. Temps are around 40 and we are a bit surprised at how cold it feels.
