  2. Being in the water for moments like this is something I’ll never get over. Everything happens so fast and you’re just trying to take it in while also capturing it. This was shot in really low light, and the photo didn’t come out the way the moment actually felt at all. I edited this in @lightroom on Desktop and was able to bring it back to something that feels way closer to what it was like being there. Shaping the light, cleaning up the grain, and turning a split second underwater into something I can actually hold onto. That’s what I love about it.   3. Less than an hour before 13-year-old Abby passed, I met up with her and her mom, Katie to memorialize their great love. We had just about 15 mins to capture these memories before Dr. Jason of @lapofloveveterinaryhospice arrived- this was the quickest shoot I had ever done. Due to her condition and decline, things happened very last minute and fast. I was worried about the quality of photos I’d be able to get in that short of a period of time. The intention behind sharing the short duration of the session goes to show how pure their love is. And how effortless is way to capture SO much in such a small time. But let me tell you: even 30 seconds with these two and magic could have been captured. Within those 15 short minutes time it felt (to me) as if truly stood still while watching them. The only two beings in the world in that time were Abby and Katie. They soaked up each others love, snuggled on the side walk, and sat amongst the tulips in their yard while the set sun cast a golden light upon them. With the greatest love, comes the greatest grief. A culmination of years of friendship captured in a handful of vulnerable, raw moments. I leave you with a few words Abby’s mom shared about her: “She turned 13 the day before passing. Her favorite activities included the beach, following her nose wherever it took her, digging in the garden, treats, and belly rubs. She was kind-hearted and gentle, forgiving and just an all-around happy girl. She came to me when I was 19, and she 1.5, and stayed by my side through every up and down since. She has been my best friend and companion for the last 12 years. She fought bravely and courageously throughout a difficult battle with lar-par/golpp, in addition to renal and arthritis. But even on her last of days, she spent it running on the beach. Her body may have been failing her, but her spirits never did. “ Thank you for sharing this time with me, Abby and Katie. 🧡 #endoflifepetphotography #thetillyproject

  3. The country of eternal spring 🇬🇹 Guatemala has incredible beauty everywhere you look. The old cities have a unique charm, the people are kind, and the food is delicious and cheap. If you love adventure there are multiple volcano hikes in every direction. Lake Atitlan is such a vibe, I can see how it has become a paradise for digital nomads. And flying north to Flores puts you in the middle of the jungle, with thousands of ancient Maya ruins in every direction. Guatemala is a place I could come back to over and over and still enjoy, so I put together my own travel guide/google maps/photography spots too!   3. How did you learn “how to light”? 💡 Learning how to light like your favorite movies can feel like an abstract and confusing concept. There are creative visual aspects to lighting - like painting - and there are technical aspects to lighting - like knowing what units, rigs and diffusions to use. Where do you start? Like Brittney said, a great place to start in your journey of lighting is observing the natural light around you ✨ as you go through your day, notice how light shapes the world around you and how it makes you feel! Is it a hard streak of light coming through a window from the sun? Or maybe it’s a few soft practical lamps that help your space feel cozier? Maybe it’s a combination of moonlight illuminating an alleyway with the hard shadows from an overhead street light? Take note of light patterns you like - and think about how they help shape scene. From there, you can begin thinking about how to recreate the light in your scenes using the sun, lighting units and practicals yourself!
