My shoes are pre-loved designer and sold out on @bohboathens , the corset is thrifted and I made the rest of the dress from leftover scrap fabric I collected at a wedding atelier that I worked at many years ago. I wish I had had more time to devote on making the dress but I'm proud that at least I managed to finish it, even though I ended up looking like a shipwrecked fairy.   2. A few weeks ago, on the 22nd of October I turned 30 and so a new decade of my life begins. As a fresh, green 20-year-old I pictured my thirties as the finish line, the final destination for all of life’s struggles, milestones and achievements, this has clearly not been the case. For better and for worse. 30 for women is seen as our expiration date, the point of no return where your face shrivels up and a magical alarm in your ovaries is set off, forcing you to trap any available man and procreate with them. Although it’s true my ass has seen better days and my energy levels aren’t what they used to be, the truth is, I love being older. Best part about it? Smelling bullshit from kilometers away. Being naive and gullible was the bane of my youth and there’s nothing really quite as empowering as reading peoples intentions. Another favorite part of being older? Having a much clearer understanding of who I am and to get that I had to question everything. I questioned religion, education, having kids, work, what my ethics were, what I ate, what I wore, what I bought, class, relationships, sexuality (the questioning never really ends) and I chose to reject a lot of the cultural and societal boxes that are expected of a woman my age to fit into. If I did anything right in my 20s, it was disregarding normality and allowing myself to grow as offensively and unconventionally as I desired.

Sorry for the flex but I needed to remind myself of everything that was achieved in 2019 because sometimes I end up feeling like all my efforts are futile and that's definitely not the case! So here it goes, this year, in Hamburg I spoke at @conscious_loft about greenwashing and veganism, I took part in the Athens climate march as so many people around the globe are waking up and finally demanding climate justice. A video on my channel reached 3 million views! I talked about veganism and ethical fashion on @instylegreece , I was interviewed by @voguegreece , named as one of the top 5 sustainability influencers by @voguejapan and I wore a thrifted outfit at the @voguegreece opening party FOR ONLY €2, because you can always have fun with fashion, ethically, sustainably and on a budget. Finally, I was also interviewed for @kathimerini and @shapemaggr I'm so grateful to everyone this year that offered me their platforms and allowed me to talk to their audience about ethical living, veganism and sustainable fashion. Thank you, to every single one of you that reached out to me to let me know you've gone vegan, quit fast fashion and radically changed the way you consume. Thank you Patrons, for making everything I did this year so much easier to accomplish. I took some time off this last month to recharge because 2020 is starting off with a bang and I can't wait to be able to tell you more about it. The 20's are here, let's make this the decade of compassion, for all humans, workers, animals and our beautiful planet.

  2. One of the things I love about fat bodies is the LARGE CANVAS we have to work with. There’s literally more space to show off this fab swim print from @blackbirdfabrics (last year). And as much as I am not about loud prints in most garments, I am all about it for swimwear. I always wear rashies to swim in because I am Australian and we are very proactive about the dangers of UV rays so I cover up. It also makes it quick and easy to slip on a rashie rather than slather on sunscreen. I used the @munaandbroad #TarleeTShirt pattern for the rashie. It already has a mock neck included. The bottoms are #KapundaUndies, unaltered (I was squeezing into scraps) with a simple, turned swim elastic edge.   3. When you’re fat, dressing for specific occasions is really challenging and requires a lot of forward planning. Last Thursday, @bendrakbarry and I hosted a chat with @g_russo1 about his new book, The Power of Plus and what I was most worried about in advance was what I was going to wear to my first public event as a fashion prof. Friends: I scoured the internet looking for things to buy and for inspiration since this really doesn’t fall into the “professional dressing” category and eventually decided, as usual, that I’d have to sew something to wear. I sewed up this @munaandbroad #HuonDress (which is my current fave design - this is number 3) in a black washed cotton. I accessorize it with this harness from @emma_alamo who kindly did a rush order for me so I’d have it in time (swipe for back view). Best ever boots are @traceyneuls (gifted). Overall, I’d call the outfit a great success and hits all my #SlowFashionWitch goals. What a relief but also, the process of choosing a dress was slightly enraging because I could find so many things I would have bought in straight sizes but none for my body. LONG LIVE WEARING YOUR PERSONALITY 🩷 The History of bag charms and the next big trend✨ 🕊️The chatalain which Began as a decorative hook attached to a belt, with chains suspending household items, reminds me of todays shift to keeping our belongs displayed outside of bags on bag charms or even phone cases. Popular in the 16th-17th Centuries it wasnt until the 19th century that they became less utility and more fashion. Variations were worn by housekeepers, nurses, and eventually adopted by high society women. They were seen as a “portable toolkit,” carrying items like scissors, vials, and writing instruments. They brecame a fashionable way to showcase your personale hobbies and style. Its interesting how no matter how far back you go in history we have always been obsessed with asserting our individuality or personal style in some way! Like bag charms, they acted as a way of communicating or social signaling . Before chatting you could tell what you might have in common weather its a labubu or a for the 19th century women a thimble. Jewllers like Tiffany & Co, Liberty and Sampson Mordan picked up on the tend and began prodcuign their own ornate designs, and I feel like these could still be styled really well today. What I love about the chatlain is that it isnt simply about self expression it has a use, and those are my favourite bag charms things like antique bottle openers lighters and lipglosses. There usefulness makes the fashion statement feel far more nonchalant and less forced. Life update: Today, I beat cancer! 👊🏼 First of all, I wanna thank the Lord for giving me a second life. 🙏🏼 Few days before my operation, I was in extreme anxiety but I hold on to His words in Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” -And He did! ❤️ Thank you @tghcares for the warm accommodation. Thankful for all the nurses who took care of me - Teresa, Janice, Barbara, Sue, Rekha, Shelby, Yolanda and to all the transport guys, thank you for a smooth transition from operating room, recovery room and patient’s room. To my doctors/surgeons - Dr. Bukkapatnam and Dr. Sirohi thank you so much! They successfully removed cancer in my left kidney through robotic (Da Vinci) laparoscopic partial nephrectomy procedure and my kidney is still in tact! Praise God! 🙌🏼 Shoutout to my dear husband who’s always there for me. I wouldn’t have done this without your love and support. I love you sweetie! ❤️😘 PS - To my mom, who wasn’t able to fight cancer 23 years ago. I wasn’t gonna let cancer take me without putting up a fight. This is for you Mama! ❤️ To everyone who’s still here, thank you so much guys! I’ll just need sometime to rest and recover and will come back soon! I miss you all!   3. I’m so excited Costa Mesa has a new zero waste store!!! I’ve always loved going to this part of the OC as a teenager - I’d go thrifting, take cool pictures, work on my laptop, and meet friends for coffee. It’s been a little creative eco-haven for me, which makes the addition of a zero waste shop, @eco.now.ca, extra exciting. . Have you been intimidated to buy bulk, or confused on how to calculate tare weight of your mason jars? 🙋🏼‍♀️ Shops like this make it so simple and *not* intimidating. I encourage you to find one in your area to kick off your curiosity on how pros like Bea of @zerowastehome and Lauren of @trashisfortossers have mastered the art of zero waste living (I haven’t quite got there yet)! . Not to mention... only 50% of empty bathroom products in the USA get recycled.🧴 Investing in reusable glass containers and refilling them on routine is a way for you to help offset part of this massive waste problem.   2. another year around the sun, hello twenty six ✨ saving the sappiness for my journal but sharing some pics of smiley me cause it’s been a while — thank you for all the bday msgs (I feel so loved and I appreciate you so much) though this past year was the hardest and loneliest year of my life, I’m grateful for the growth and healing it allowed and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come... with embracing my Asian heritage and unlearning racial conditioning, connecting with myself and holding compassionate space for my needs, and learning how to win the daily battle against my depression (wouldn’t have believed you a year ago if you told me my bathroom mirror would be full of sticky notes hyping me up — I love it though and highly recommend hehe) despite the highs and the super low lows, I really believe there’s a lesson in everything and that the universe has its plan — and when it’s hard to believe, I’ve loved @morganharpernichols’ mantra “I haven’t seen everything I was meant to see” 🤎 here’s to another year learning to reclaim rest & joy, and helping tear down the systems of oppression and racism (in the fashion industry and beyond) #sustainablestyle #ethicalfashion #oootd

The Lower Parliament voted unanimously for a fine of up to €10 per fast fashion garment and a ban on advertising on Thursday. This is a seismic piece of legislation designed to protect companies that make quality products from quality materials. Like smoking, drink driving and plastic bags, France thinks fast fashion is a danger to societal health. Gripping stuff!   2. Ready for Rule of 5 in 2024? It's great to have you here! It's been such a lovely experience travelling with all my Rule of 5 friends this last year, I couldn't possibly look back. Instead, I'm really looking forward to doing it with all of you again - only better this time. Quick reminder of the guidelines on these slides, but please remember they are just a guide. This is your challenge, it's important it's right for you, your needs and where you are in life right now. Having completed the challenge last year I can assure you it really is worth it, on so many levels. It resets your shopping habits, refreshes your relationship with fashion, deepens your relationship with style, saves you money (yes!), introduces you to creativity - and it helps the fight against climate change. I'm sure I don't need to tell you fashion is responsible for 8-10% of the world's emissions, has a huge waste problem clogging up deserts, seas and frankly any part of the world we can find to ship to, and is encouraging consumption at a rate far beyond that which the world's resources will allow. What's great about this challenge is that it is something we can all do, it is enjoyable and revealing and if enough of us do it, it could change the current trajectory we are on. So give it a go!
