  3. I am not really sure how to navigate this journey but am figuring it out slowly. 1 week ago today when the news dropped, the kids were off from school and media trucks circled our home. I did the first thing I could think of … pack them in the car and drive. We drove straight into … Canada (and lovely Buffalo NY) (Pro Tip: always have passports ready just in case you have to run away 😅) We talked about lots of hard things and how we will all have to face hard things. About the need to be gentle … with all and with ourselves. We did some scary things but we did them together. We ziplined over Niagara Falls and August got stuck 🫠. We talked about flexibility and the need to always have an open heart and an open mind. We also talked about how joy and fun can and must still exist, even when someone we love is in pain. And tomorrow? Who knows. Will try all over again. ❤️

  3. I knew that I wanted to do something special for the Philadelphia shows. Having grown up in that area, I wanted to do something to honor my family, and my musical influences. I had this idea to wear an oversized suit, a la @davidbyrneofficial in “Stop Making Sense”, as a Nudie Suit, with personal details and western flair. But I had no clue where to obtain such a unique piece. Thanks to my good friend Danielle at @keystoneartistconnect, I was put in touch with @snakefarmcreative, who has made custom dresses for folks like Miranda Lambert and Kaitlin Butts. She understood exactly what I was trying to go for, and made the suit and pants for me with incredible attention to detail. All of those patches are leather, drawn and painted to photographic replica. Suffice to say, that isn’t just any lap steel on my back, it’s my exact 7 string Rickenbacker lap steel. The mountain laurels on the front are the state flower of Pennsylvania, where I’ve lived all my life. The bluebird on the back is both the New York State bird (my dad was born in Staten Island), and a reference to my Dad’s favorite banjo song, “Bluebird” by Buffalo Springfield. The cookies represent my Dad’s baking. Cowboy June was designed by @honeynutmeg for our wedding koozies. The photo of Kristen I chose is from the first road trip we ever took together, to Nashville. We are still heading down the road, together. Vintage rhinestones adorn all of the patches. I wasn’t sure how something this big and personal was going to be received, but it’s been very humbling to see and hear the reactions. Thank you for a beautiful and special experience this week.
