A big thank you to every single one of you for sticking with me through thick & thin through what’s been the most challenging year of my 54 on this spinning rock 🌍 I really do appreciate all the kindness and support that’s flowed like a river into my inbox. I’m usually a pretty upbeat, cheerful, optimistic, confident and resilient kind of individual but that’s been tested to the hilt in 2024 and I’ve had some big wobbles. Seeing my parents begin to resurface from the depths of grief and feel some lightness over Christmas has made such a difference. 2024 has shoved ‘life’s too short’, and ‘one life, live it’, right in my face and I’m ready for a fresh start in 2025 and plenty of new adventures. Well, that was an unexpected bonus 🏁 I went into this pretty pooped after 3 days on the mic 🎤 hyping the first European HYROX of the season (and clocking 110,000 steps before even hitting the dance floor). When a space opened up in the last women’s open wave after my shift, I had about 15 mins to swap mic for race chip and get into the start tunnel. Zero warm up, not something I’d ever recommend, but sometimes you’ve just got to seize the chance. The goal wasn’t to chase a PB, just to run, enjoy, and try out some new strategies on the stations. I finished 3 mins off my best and honestly, I’ll take that! At the end of the day, that’s what HYROX always reminds me: it’s not about the stats or the podium. It’s about showing up, celebrating what your body can do, and sharing the floor with this incredible community 🙌 #hyrox #hyroxworld #hyroxtraining

  1. Trainers! We’ve all been there, especially when just starting out your journey as a trainer. Trust me over the last 20 years of doing my job I had my fair share of bullshit classes. Sometimes no matter how much you prepare things may not go to plan. Here are some tips to stay afloat when the class simply doesn’t go the way you intended ✅ Avoid over complicating your sessions with exercises that seem fun on paper but are complicated and don’t serve the purpose of the session. It’s good to add variety to your session but the best way to ensure this is to always add no more than 1 or 2 new movement to keep the classes fresh yet familiar. ✅ Be flexible in your planning. Having a precise session plan is important but you can not account for human factor. Have a simple series of exercises in reserve that can bring everyone back on the same page. This comes with experience but is the best way to bring harmony back to your class. ✅ Safety first. Remember the number one rule is the safety of your athletes. If a handful of your clients got lost in the woods and others start to mirror their movement it is totally ok to say “Class, stop what you are doing, let’s move on to this movement instead.” ✅ Stay calm. No one needs a headless chicken in their Pilates class running around frustrated correcting everyone. Maintain a professional tone. Move on from the current (disaster) sequence by guiding your clients into the next with professional attitude and reserved authority. ✅ Be clear in your communication.
