My glute growth did NOT come from barbell hip thrusts ⬇️ I gave up barbell hip thrusts for a couple reasons, 1-they absolutely suck to set up. 2- I’ve learned they weren’t a # 1 driver for glute growth. This Weighted Single Leg Hip Thrust is actually better for glute growth & here’s why ⬇️ 1️⃣ It forces each glute to work independently. With a barbell hip thrust, your stronger side can compensate for the weaker side without you realizing it. With the single-leg version, that glute has to do all the work, helping correct imbalances and ensuring both sides get the stimulus needed to grow. 2️⃣ It improves mind-muscle connection. Because the load is lighter and you’re stabilizing with one leg, most people slow down and control the movement more. That makes it easier to actually feel the glutes working instead of letting the quads take over. 3️⃣ The stability demand increases glute recruitment. Your glutes are responsible for both hip extension and stabilizing the pelvis. The glute medius and other stabilizers work harder to keep your hips level, leading to more overall glute involvement. 4️⃣ It creates a strong stimulus with less load. Barbell hip thrusts often become a game of loading as much weight as possible. With single-leg hip thrusts, one leg is doing the work, so you can challenge the glutes without needing extremely heavy weight. 5️⃣ It helps prevent compensation. With two feet on the ground, people often push unevenly, arch their back, or shift weight without realizing it. The single-leg version makes that much harder, so the glutes actually have to do the work. So ya you won’t see me setting up many barbell hip thrusts. Boston Marathon mile by mile! 💙💛 I was planning to run slow and party pace Boston, but less than one mile into the race, I ran into a friend who I met while I was recording my ‘Back to the Paces’ miles in 2023! We ran seven miles together then, and it felt meant to be that we ran into each other this year. To run with her then meant so much because I was battling MS behind closed doors, and this was the first race after my diagnosis and treatment. My friend Sharon was looking to run a 3:27:00 today, and she asked me to pace with her so we ran the first 11 miles close to a 7:45 pace together. At that point, we accidentally separated. I’m not going to lie, I stopped to pet a dog 😂 A special shoutout to @lexilwatts for joining my pace video for Mile 13! At Mile 16, Sharon and I found each other. She then kept me going through all of the Newton Hills and beyond. Sharon told me while we were running that if anyone could fight MS, it was me, and she knows I’m stronger than it. She said she thought even more highly of me since I shared my story. It truly meant the world to hear her say that ❤️ We finished the race together and even hugged at the finish line! It was all so fortuitous and meant to be! The running community is amazing, and I’m so grateful for moments like these. My 4th straight Boston Marathon and 11th overall marathon is in the books! Taylor makes it a point to connect with her audience, creating a special bond with everyone present. Taylor’s talent had 70,000 singing along, and you can see it in this video. Everyone danced in the stands, which I didn’t notice until rewatching the video just now. That makes me want to cry.
