We know all too well the positive benefits of daily exercise, but I love knowing I’m working towards a goal and pushing myself. • 🧊 DRINK WATER: I used to be the worst for neglecting my water intake. Mostly through laziness. Now I don’t go anywhere without my water bottle full (if you know you know💂🏽‍♀️). I probably drink around 3.5 litres a day, and since, I have felt so much more energised. My skin looks better and my training performance has improved. • 📚READ: A good self help book before bed. It keeps my vocabulary up, and self help books are usually jam packed full of positivity and perspective. Even on my worst days they can help me realign my thoughts.   3. HOW TO AVOID STRESS EATING!! 🍕🍔🍫 • Lockdown 2.0 got us all mad kinds of stressed. Persistent stress leads to the release of a hormone called cortisol which has been known to increase appetite. During periods of intense physical or emotional stress we tend to sway towards foods that are high in fat and/or sugar. These foods dampen stress related responses which is why they are referred to as ‘comfort foods’, even though the effects are short term. Usually here we enter a cycle of feeling stressed, indulging on food, realising we may have gained weight, stressing about about weight gain and so on…❌ • It is really important that we do what we can to reduce our stress levels. Particularly in times like these where social interaction and physical exercise is limited. • Here are some alternative options to try and reduce your stress levels,: 🧘🏽‍♀️Meditation - Recognised globally for reducing stress, with practice you can reach a deep state of relaxation and tranquility. Allowing you to focus your attention and eliminate negative or counterproductive thoughts that might crowd your mind and contribute to stress. 🏋🏽‍♀️ Exercise - This is difficult during lockdown if you do not have access to equipment. HOWEVER, we are able to take a walk with 1 member of another household during this lockdown. Opt for a change of scenery and some fresh air while you catch up with a friend. You could even walk to the local coffee shop for takeout together. I PROMISE you’ll feel a little less stressed after. 🛌 Perfecting sleep hygiene - Good sleep hygiene is about putting yourself in the best position to sleep well each night. Dim your lights, unplug from electronics and test methods of relaxation, e.g. have a hot candlelit bath, burn some incense or listen to some relaxing music. • It’s normal to turn to food for comfort when we are stressed.
