  1. Burwood is not lacking any dearth in noodle shops, but the newest one on the block called My Aunt’s Handmade Noodles does something I’ve never come across before. FREE REFILLS. What? In this economy? How is this sustainable? Sure, you may have come across kaedama in ramen shops for a second serving, but in northern Chinese noodles? Are you crazy? Their goal is to make sure you’re satisfied, so they give you a pretty large portion. If you’re still hungry (seriously, you have to be really hungry) you can ask for a noodle refill and they’ll top you up with more sauce if you like. On top of this, you can customise your bowls for chilli, or extra/no coriander or extra/no green onions, garlic, and so on....and they take cards. Xi Bay? Go away. We ordered: $17.80 - Biang Biang Noodles $14.90 - Oil Splash Noodles $13.90 - Sichuan chicken in Red Oil Sauce All of it was delicious. You will leave satisfied. The noodles are light and chewy, not dense at all and there’s plenty of it. The chilli isn’t too spicy but you get that trademark numbing. There’s plenty of other different noodle bowls here including Lanzhou Beef and Braised Beef and the same FREE REFILLS concept applies. They’ll also give you a loyalty card, so on your 10th bowl you can get one free. The lady at the front desk told me to order the most expensive bowl when I hit 10, what a legend. I’m coming back for sure. There’s no socials but you can find them at: My Aunt’s Handmade Noodles 226 Burwood Rd, Burwood NSW 2134

  2. Roti canai, the famous Indian flatbread brought over to Southeast Asia during the period of British Malaya can be found all over Malaysia. In Sydney, you can find it at a decent clip, but places that make everything by hand are a little more rare. In Padstow, there’s a new Malaysian spot named @unclehung_syd and they’re making over 12 different varieties of handmade roti and all their sauces are made in-house. It’s a great little neighborhood gem. The menu has several other dishes and they’re halal; you can find Malaysian classics like Ayam goreng, Nasi lemak, Char kway teow, Satay, Mee goreng, and more. They also have Hainanese chicken rice from Thursday to Friday. The roti canai starts at $9 and the savoury ones don’t go past $10 unless you add a protein. The sweet ones max out at $14. I ordered: $9 - Classic roti canai $9.5 - Garlic butter roti with garlic confit butter $19 - Hainanese chicken rice $19 - Char kway teow $16 - Kangkung belacan The roti is nice and flaky though slightly dry, and the dal and belacan has a good taste. I did prefer the garlic confit butter as it had a bit more flavour and moisture, so definitely try this one. With the chicken rice, it’s passable but I probably wouldn’t order it again, the rice is better than the chicken which is just a bit overcooked. The Char kway teow was a bit of a surprise, I vastly prefer CKT with sausage and pork lard bits but even without all that this was a pretty tasty one with good wok hei - I’d order it again. The kangkang is fine, hard to mess that one up if you want some greens. All in all a great little local spot, I’d come back to try the other roti types for sure.

  3. 6 Steps 👇 Learn the art of catching bream on lures in just 6 easy steps! Soft plastic lures have revolutionized Australian recreational angling, and the mighty bream is no exception. 6 steps ⬇️ Step 1: Are you using the correct tackle? A 1-3 or a 1-4kg flick rod paired with a 1000 to 2500 size spinning reel. Learn the importance of using quality 6-8lb braid and adding a light Fluoro carbon leader. The lighter you go, the more bites you will attract! Step 2: Lure Selection- Choose your arsenal wisely! Opt for small grubs, small paddle tails, prawn imitation or crustacean/ creature bait style soft baits in natural, life-like colours that resemble the bait fish in the chosen area. Match these with light jig heads with fine gauge hooks. I generally stick with a 1/12-1/30 size jig head with a size 1 hook depending on the depth and conditions. Step 3: Rig the Lure Straight Master the art of rigging your lure correctly a crucial step that can make all the difference in attracting bream. Your lure will only swim to the best of its ability if it’s rigged on straight which helps it swim naturally. Step 4: Location Fish where the bream thrive! Wharves, pontoons, floating docks, bridges, drop offs, edges, oysters, flats and any sort of structure will hold bream!. You want to ensure you’re casting as close as possible for optimal results. Step 5: Lure action Patience is key! Let your rigged plastic sink to the bottom and then employ a series of hops or slow winds will you find what works for you on the day. Step 6: Time on the water The more time you spend on the water, the more chance you have of catching some fish. Also it helps with refining your skill to see what works and what doesn’t work! Most importantly, have fun! Follow for more @thefinesseangler #BreamFishing #LureFishing #SoftPlasticLures #FishingTips #AnglingAdventure #howtofishing #luretips #learningtofish
