  3. When I was younger, I wasn’t sure if I would have children. I thought of myself as very individual and alone, and I grew to find comfort in that. I liked to be intellectual, in control, and serious about myself. I liked to be unreachable and indulgent in myself and my goals. I couldn’t relate to the playfulness of a child, their messiness, the confrontation of their big out-loud emotions. These were things I either never had, or wouldn’t allow myself to have. It overwhelmed me. I leaned toward being alone where I found the most convenience and comfort. When I became pregnant with Benjamin, I was barely turning 22. In those beginning years of adulthood, I started to really move with that “nothing to lose” mindset. I was not on a good path. The future didn’t matter to me, other people didn’t matter to me, and I hardly mattered to me. Benjamin disrupted all of that and pulled me to earth. I lost all my friends, I shed myself as I knew it and I had to become someone I’d never been before. I had to learn how to make my choices for the genuine wellbeing of someone else, and not for my own changing moods. I thought I was grown. No. I did my real growing up right there with him in our own little world. When Ben was 6, I finally felt confident enough to have another. Samson came then. Crazy how I was a totally different woman by then, but still learning. Always learning. And that’s the thing. They are the reason I learn— and don’t get too comfortable in my own old opinions or grudges. They are the reason the future matters. They are the reason I keep building. They are the reason I’ve learned to be playful. They are the reason I care about people; people I don’t know, vulnerable people, all people. They’ve added all the dimension and color to who I am. They’ve irreversibly deepened and softened my heart. They were meant for me and I for them. Moment by moment, I was equipped, I had just enough, I found new muscles in myself. Yesterday I heard a soft song in the car on my way back from getting coffee and I just bawled at how much I love these boys. How incredibly blessed I feel to be given them. How wonderful and meaningful they make each day.♥️ #motherhood

  2. Please share!!! These kids deserve more than corporate greed. Originally, Vertex offered robust copay assistance which came to about $140,000 per year in support. They have cut it down to $20,000 per year and $3,500 per fill which effectively eliminates support for some insurance plans after 1 or 2 fills. Insurance companies began copay accumulator programs to try and combat high drug prices (Trikafta is $311,000 per year and they are planning on raising the price.) Copay accumulators accept the money from copay assistance plans but they don’t apply the money to the patient deductible so they get all the money from the pharmaceutical company and then more money for the same deductible from the patient thereby being paid twice. To combat copay accumulators, Vertex has decided to reduce support instead of lowering their price. So in the fight between insurance and drug companies, the patients are the ones losing, not the multi-billion dollar companies who we have to rely on. In quarter 3 of 2022, Vertex made $2.2 billion profit on CF drugs which was 19% over Q3 2021. So clearly they are suffering 🙄 Also, their stocks went up 65% last year, which was 30% higher than the national average. So their stock basically increased 95 % over pretty much everyone else. These kids deserve better. Please @vertexpharmaceuticals, please don’t take the patient assistant program away. These kids need it. From one parent to another- what would you want for your child? @helpingcysticfibrosis
