Launching today is my new brand HUMANS WE LOVE, finally, today! 9 months officially working on this nearly every day - and 9 months before that I wrote the plan for HumansWeLove.com as a luxe ethical jewelry brand (with some vegan gowns too fine maybe i guess) 😆hoping to transfer my skills in ethical fashion to ethically sourced gemstone & recycled gold engagement rings. BUT, when I hated my actual jewelrymaking class and, my biz plan didn’t win a female entrepreneurship grant I’d need for the starting inventory - I realized there might be a part of the plan I COULD start: vegan zero waste gowns - sourcing Deadstock, fabric remnants, vintage trim, and handmade elements by female artist entrepreneurs supporting themselves and those they love, around the world, and then bringing designs to life that incorporate all of these unique and wondrous elements. And to my surprise - it was fun, really fun. I could take everything i had learned about each element of the process (concept, sourcing, development, hiring, business modeling, branding, website design) and utilize it but with the many hard lessons I had learned. I could choose to create again this time with a very important understanding, that I am limited. In learning so much about my very tangible limits as a human and entrepreneur - I have this time chosen to create this brand with those limits in mind to create a TINY & SLOW business model that feels sustainable and allows for me to have a sustainable life (🤞🏼!) while making the impact I can for the earth, animals and artists. If you’re flying out of Rome, @autogrill just created this amazing all vegan WOW burger with vegan cheese, bacon and a turmeric bun it’s so good 😍🍔 Found these with zero Italian skills 🙈 scouring all the sites (happy cow, Yelp, google etc) asking everyone and checking irl menus so if you’ve found other spots pls share below!! Not the easiest city for vegan but everything was sooo yum (+ PRETTIEST outdoor seating!) If you stop in this bella città piena di musica hope this helps un po 😘😘♥️ miss you already #Siena

  1. Thoughts on grappling with an unruly body in clothes for unruly times: The leisure, ath- or otherwise, category has always been tough for me. A key element of the sartorial armor that supports my body confidence is polish—clean lines, a general put-togetherness. Styles that look disheveled, even artfully so, worry me: can I look messy and fat without looking messy because I’m fat? I tread with caution. And then, the pandemic. Suddenly, I had nowhere to go. All clothes were at-home clothes. And, bonus, I was increasingly pregnant. My unruly body would not be contained within clean lines, could barely be held together, refused anything but deep comfort. And so my unruly body slid into unruly dressing. I think quite a bit about when my soft belly will once again accept being zipped into sleekness. If it ever will. If I can continue to construct the same image of myself. If I want to. If unleashing my unruly body in unruly style will unleash what I most fear: my unruly mind.   2. Do you think it’s silly that I tag brands I wear? Do you find it even a little, perhaps, tacky? Here’s the thing: shopping while fat is very hard, shopping ethically while fat is even harder and Instagram and the fashion blogs before it have been my primary source of clothing discovery for a decade. Traditional media, mall shopping, even word of mouth amongst friends exclude me. It wasn’t until I saw trailblazers like @gabifresh and @nicolettemason that I started to find clothes that fit both my body and my style. For a long time, fat fashion felt like a whisper network. Now it feels like Instagram serves that function, at least for me. And so I’ll continue to name the brands I wear here. This is, after all, a style-centric space for me and tagging brands is my way of paying forward what I learned from fat fashion bloggers in defining my style based on how I actually wanted to dress, not just the best I could do with the dregs I could find. To me, shouting out the clothes that fit me and maybe helping other people find clothes that fit them is part of the solution.   3. I’ve been thinking about why I used to react so strongly to thin friends doing/discussing fad diets (even though they would have called them “wellness” or “self care”). It felt like a personal rebuke. Because, sure, they loved me and weren’t staging interventions to tell me I was too fat, but they were thin and clearly felt they were “too fat” (as evidenced by their determination to change their bodies), so… At this time of year, with so much advertising preying on our desire for this year to be better than last, for ourselves to get that reset button we all wish life really had, and with so much of that based around our bodies, it can be hard to differentiate between those things that genuinely reconnect us to our bodies and Big Bad Diet Culture. It took me a long time to find any nuance there and even now that I have, this time of year can be hard. So to anyone out there doing a fitness or eating challenge, or certainly anything that can be labeled a “cleanse,” give some thought as to how you talk about that. Or why you feel the need to talk about it at all. And maybe examine your motivations as a fun New Years reset on examining your relationship with fatness. The sun is peaking out at us here in Austin today, so I’m re-arranging my whole day to get outside and enjoy the sun while it lasts 🌤 Some of my favorite things to do when it’s nice out in Austin: - Hike at Walnut Creek Park with @livin.la.vida.mocha 🐶 - Hang out at Barton Creek greenbelt with friends and pups (or barking/doggy springs if it’s not too crowded). - Have a picnic or do some yoga at Zilker Park (another dog activity 🤪) - Find a nice outdoor patio to eat and drink like @eastciders_bartonsprings or @eatdrinkdocs - Paddle Board at Town Lake (a goal for this weekend if it doesn’t rain) - Bike somewhere nearby like @muelleratx with my neighbor. - Mountain Bike at Walnut Creek where Mocha can run along with us (not possible now because the trails are too wet) Most of these can be done anywhere, not just Austin! What are your favorite things to do on nice days? Give me more ideas!

Knowing which body type category you fall under is SO important when shopping for clothing because it allows you to accentuate your shape/hide parts you're uncomfortable sharing. PLUS, it saves you from constantly buying more so saves you money too 😉 If you want to feel and look your best a perfectly curated wardrobe can do just that! Not really sure how to measure? Follow these steps ⬇️ 1. Undress, grab a pen & paper, and a flexible measuring tape and measure the following: •SHOULDERS- Behind you from the top of one shoulder to the other. Write it down! •BUST- Underneath your arms at the fullest part of your chest. Taut, but don't squish the girls! 😜 Write it down! •WAIST- At the narrowest part. You can find your natural waist by bending to the side. Wherever you see the bend is where you want to measure. Write it down! •HIPS- The widest part of your hips. This will be about two inches above your crotch. Write it down! 2. Try This Hack!! ✨️ Quick & Easy Slip Dress Fix If you have any dresses hanging in your closet that you no longer wear because they're too big and just not flattering at all, don't toss them out- this is the hack you've been needing! I will have to say that this does work *best* with a metal bangle because those aren't as heavy and the fabric will peek through instead of the compact, BUT not everyone has those, so I wanted to try it with something most women do have in their bag to give more options and I think it worked out pretty well. Basically, 2025 is gonna be UNREAL!!! in Jan and Feb I'll be @hotel_kansascity 's FIRST EVER artist-in-residence! 😍😍 I truly feel like a kid in a candy shop, like this experience can't for real be coming true right?!! In January, I'll be painting a few final pieces from my collection Flying in the Dark live in the lobby on Thursdays and Fridays (and sometimes Saturdays!) I'll be there 12-5 mostly on those days, come grab a coffee or lunch and hang!! FEBRUARY 1st : Save the date! Opening night of my art exhibition Flying in the Dark // an immersive experience, a collection of poetry, paintings and an optional sound file to accompany them. There will be drinks, beautiful art, gifts from me and you can grab dinner at the gorgeous @the_town_company or hang at @nighthawk_kc after! Collection will be on display all of Feb in the lobby! This opportunity makes me a living testament that you, too, can Fly after many moments of Darkness in the wildest year of your life🙏 More below: After closing my ethical fashion store @slowmotiongoods / MADI Apparel of 10 years (online is still open,) many of you know I started making more time and space for one of my first loves, art. I have a painting degree, years of playing with my grandma (was a professional China painter) and mom (also a painter,) was a @paradeofhearts heartist and have been making gifts for loved ones for years. Early 2024 brought a series of storms my way. I grieved a miscarriage, endured a major surgery removing a six inch cyst and my left ovary, I closed the doors of my 10-year-old ethical fashion company, fought for my marriage, and ultimately, I fought for myself. More info on the collection to come in a future post 🌝 This will be my first-ever over 10 piece collection of paintings and my first ever poetry book to accompany. THANK YOU to my husband, family, best friends and all of my loved ones for supporting me. I'm the luckiest girl and never take a second of this life for granted!!!

  1. Just as one chapter ends, a new exciting adventure begins! (Swipe right) Today we officially close on the sale of our first home. An old house that we made into a home with the help of our beloved Rio, who passed away in December. A home that we gave so much of ourselves to and gave us in return a life we never would have imagined. Our little black house on the corner will always hold a special place in our hearts not only for our time that we lived there but for what it helped us to do next. In December we moved to our new little house by Lake Nokomis in the Wenonah neighborhood of Minneapolis. We’re a couple of blocks from the lake and feel much closer and more connected to our community. This was something we had wanted for a while but became a much bigger priority when we found out that… WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!! Baby will be arriving mid-June, so we really wanted to be settled into the new place and have our people, our village, close by. We’re unbelievably excited and couldn’t ask for a better support system than what we have. So, as we begin the new, exciting, scary, nerve-wracking, joyful journey, we didn’t want to do so without acknowledging everything and everyone (including Rio) that helped us get here. We feel incredibly fortunate and grateful.
