Ryan knows what's at stake with our waters, and he never misses a chance to do his part in making things better. The Greenback Cutthroat was once presumed extinct, but restoration efforts thanks to volunteers, land managers, and scientists in Colorado helped its population bounce back. You can catch Silver Salmon on top water by fishing a popper. Brook trout are, in fact, not a trout. They are a char belonging to the Salmon family. Big brown trout can be night owls, feeding on mice that swim across the water. Born in fresh water, they swim out to live in the ocean but return to fresh water to lay eggs. On the West Coast, 11 species of steelhead are protected under the Endangered Species Act.
