  2. How I got that dream beam look 🤩👇🏼 ✨Drop the word “list” for full product links✨ I had a picture in my head how I wanted these beams to look and they turned out even better than I’d imagined! The boards themselves were true 2x6s from a sweet friend’s scrap pile. With them sitting outside, they naturally weathered into a beautiful grey that I stained on top of. But no worries if you have new wood because it’s easy to replicate a “weathered wood” finish! DIY weathered wood✨ 1. Mix equal parts water and baking soda, enough to apply it thickly over your wood. 2. Cover the wood with thick coats of the baking soda paste using a standard paintbrush, then leave the wood in the sun to dry for at least six hours. 3. If you want to either intensify the reaction or speed it up, spray the wood with white vinegar soon after applying the baking soda and water mixture. 4. After the wood has spent a day in the sun, brush away the dried baking soda with a hard-bristle brush, following the grain of the wood. 5. Rinse with water or a dampened rag, and then dry the wood with a clean cloth. *Use on untreated woods like redwood, cedar, pine, mahogany, and red oak* If it’s not a sunny day to bask, you can’t go wrong with a simple grey paint wash (grey paint + water mature), it just may look not as natural though. For stain, I’ve been enjoying @artisanenhancements Plant-based Nature’s Wood Stain. It’s one of the safer products I can use to stain indoors and emits zero VOC and is a water-alkyd making it easy cleanup 🙌🏼 Stain Ratio✨ 4 tablespoons Roasted Pecan 2 tablespoons Dark Walnut 1/4 cup of water I like adding water to increase transparency and I’ve found it eliminates the wipe off step. This ratio added just enough warmth back into my wood on top of the weathered grey so it mixed well with the other woods in our home. Finished with their Clear Topcoat that acts as a penetrating sealer and also deepens the color.   2. Under 2000/- wall decor.. Started with the classic nail-and-rope trick to draw a perfect dome shape – such an easy yet effective hack! Then I used a 2-inch wide soundproofing insulation gasket tape from @amazondotin to create a sleek and defined border. After that, I painted the area in my desired color to match the room’s vibe. To finish, I applied a stunning wallpaper from @letsdotherooms whose collection is simply amazing. It came together so easily, but the final result is nothing short of cozy and beautiful!   3. IKEA KITCHEN TIPS (Especially if you live in 🇩🇪) 1. It's worth to spend a little more for Ikea professionals to install the main kitchen and appliances (for us, that's the sink, stove, oven and hood.) That way you get to use the water and electricals with a peace of mind that nothing's going to explode 😬 2. Ikea installation is calculated per m^2, that means upper cabinets are basically installed for free if it's right above your lower cabinets. (Our Ikea consultant was telling us that we would lose out on this by not having uppers, but we still chose not to have them) 3. Does your fridge need to be from Ikea? No. But if you do get one from Ikea, there's an option to get a "built-in" look! 4. If you're handy with an electric screwdriver, opt to build the island yourself! Order it together with your kitchen so that delivery costs are covered, and you can customize the size of the island countertop (ours is 1.2 x 1m) and then let your Ikea consultant know you want to install it yourself to save on those installation fees $ 5. Spend a few days or even weeks planning out your Ikea kitchen in their 3D planner and then book an appointment with an Ikea consultant to review.   1. Big circle energy over here 🤪 So a while back I mentioned that we had to reorganise the spare room to make it a better everyday office and that it felt a bit weird after we did it. Like the energy was ‘off’ in it somehow. All we’d done was move the bed from the centre of the room to the wall, put in a bigger table (our old dining table) as a desk and taken away some of the things on the wall. It created more ‘office’ space but it felt weird as a room (and maybe part of that was realising that it was for the foreseeable an actual office). So the other night - when there was nearly no daylight left - we painted this massive circle on the wall (note to self, must figure out how to do diy in daylight as painting a circle in dim light was a challenge!) and put up the maps on the other wall. And I think we like it. Definitely has a sort of setting sun vibe which if that doesn’t scream ‘office’ then what does 🤪 Maybe that black screen and cables? (Goddam those cables 🤣) Happy start of the long weekend folks 💓⠀ ⠀ * Paint colour is @anniesloanhome Scandinavian Pink mixed with Pure (1:2) leftover from our stairs makeover.

  2. This week we reached a magical point where our little one ‘gets’ going to bed - she waves goodnight (and insists on a fist bump too) and then she just goes to sleep. It’s like some sort of magic. Honestly. It’ll probably all change again soon. But I’m so proud of her. And as long as it continues I have an evening again. Which last night I squandered by obsessively looking at Twitter and the current speculation about lockdowns here 🤪 The night before I spent the evening going all @mariekondo on the kitchen. So yes I’ve totally forgotten what people are meant to do with an evening 🤣 Happy weekend lovely people 💓⠀ ⠀ Blanket previously gifted and by @camille_gressier. Pink sofa lovers, it’s only on there as our little one had her two besties from the childminder round and they’re at the clambering stage 😅 but I also kind of like it here so it might stay a while.

We started painting these stairs over three weeks ago which now seems like an entire lifetime ago before zoom pub quizzes, Joe Wicks workouts and constantly refreshing the news like a crazy person... Probably should wait until they’re finished to share them but this week has felt even more rollercoaster-y so screw it, here they are... 95% done, still with a little bit of frog tape and touch ups to be done, but making me smile all the same. Just need to finish the 5% then it’s on to the next diy distraction project. The first time I ever got roses was on a Valentines day many years ago, I was working in London at the time and they arrived all the way from Ireland from the man I would end up marrying ❤ Red roses came every Valentines after that and were my wedding bouquet. 8 years ago I lost Paul, the love of my life and everything was a memory ,it hurt, it broke me, it was more than anyone could bear💔 5 years ago someone new came into our lives and quite honestly saved us , he made us laugh again, we began to build new memories and I count myself extremely lucky to have that second chance.   1. Something this week that made me really happy 🥹We’ve gone backwards and forwards with what to do with this space. It’s the original hallway of this old girl that we now call our home. We thought we’d landed on using it as our dining area, but I missed having the room for the Smalls to play in. The downstairs space for the children is why we bought the house. Our garden is really rocky and hilly and not that conducive to play, so having this space for the children to run around in is really special to us. Being so close to the sea, we were happy to compromise on the garden. It’s not until we had a disco that same night we’d moved the table out, that I realised it had been a while since we’d had a disco together - though we may have had a little boogie in the kitchen 🤭 I think we’ll call it the family disco room from now on 🤗 And now it’s time to decorate!   3. IKEA Hack - I upcycled this Kallax unit from the Smalls old nursery and turned it into a tv cabinet. I gave it a light sanding to add a bit of texture to the surface. After wiping it down I used zinsser primer which is great for this type of surface. I then painted it in farrow and balls railings (colour matched by valspar). I bought the furniture legs online for £14.39 and the bee handles were £18 for four, and they screwed into the existing handle holes easily, so I did those myself whilst my beautiful assistant 😝 drilled the legs in. We already had the paint as we colour matched the cabinet to the wall. I love the fact that you can colour match the walls doing it this way and it’s saved me a fortune given that the only tv cabinets that I like seemed to cost hundreds of ££££! I’m really pleased that a couple of people have asked me where I got my tv cabinet from. It was so easy to do and as always, I enjoyed doing a little upcycle.
