  2. I cannot believe how long I’ve been working on these ✨ FREE ✨Merton Gershun for American of Martinsville Bali hai nightstands. And before you ask, I SCAMMED MYSELF! My confidence blinded me 😂🤣 The amount of time, supplies and STRESS i wasted on these so far has been crazy! Not the smartest business decision to keep working on these but… I’m determined 🤣 Here’s how I did it! 👇🏼 + stripped using @greenez_ stripper + used carbide scraper and wire brush to remove the paint with the help of some lacquer thinner + used @jbwelddiy kwikwood epoxy putty for veneer repairs + used @realmilkpaintco oxalic acid to remove water stains + sanded with 120 grit using my @festool and @surfprepsanding (use code FURNITUREDR10 for 10% off!) and @3m abrasives + applied @myoldmasters oil based pre conditioner + applied @minwax walnut gel stain Now.. I know I was wrong to even try a dark stain on blonde mahogany but ya girl was desperate. So PLEASEESEE give me all your ideas on how to fix this!   3. you’re welcome 😉 🫶🏼👇🏼 Comment LIST & I’ll send you the list of supplies I used for each one of these little DIY/Furniture flipping life hacks! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 Here’s the secrets: + you can get the bubbles out of veneer by gently poking a hole in the bubble with a utility knife & ironing it down (this reactivates the veneer glue) + water stains can be removed with bar keepers friend, a bit of water & fine steel wool. Bar keepers friend has an ingredient called Oxalic Acid which removes iron stains… you can buy pure Oxalic Acid, but it’s way more expensive than the typical container of Bar Keepers Friend! You may have to repeat the process more than once too. Triple wash with baking soda/water solution to neutralize the surface when you’re done :) + putting white vinegar & any type of steel wool into a mason jar will make a DIY stain. This process is called ebonizing! Allow the solution to sit for a few days & ta-daaa! You have your own DIY stain! easy peasy. What other furniture repair life hacks did I miss?!? Clean: my favorite degreaser is totally awesome orange from the dollar tree! This step is important to remove debris so it doesn’t clog up your sandpaper. 2. Scuff-sand: lightly sand the entire surface you will be painting with 120 grit. Keep in mind you only need to sand enough to remove the shiny finish! 3. Repair flaws: get rid of any dings or scratches with bondo spot putty. It dries way faster than wood filler. Sand it down smooth with 120 grit. 4. Prime: this step is important to block oils from the wood penetrating your paint finish + helps give the paint something to stick to! 5. Paint: my favorite paint of all time is @melangepaints One line. This paint has primer + topcoat included and dries flawlessly even with a brush. Save, Share, Like & Follow ❤️ I spent more time than I want to think about to remove all this paint on this Brandt Embassy Collection Regency Style Faux Bamboo vintage coffee table. I actually walked away for a bit and almost gave up. I think it was so worth it to keep going. I try to avoid painted pieces because you never know what you will find hiding under the old finish. Whether the previous work done created more damage or was done to hide old damage. It is a gamble.   3. While visiting a thrift store I spotted this table by the dumpster and asked if I could take it home. Save, Share, Like and Follow for more furniture flips ❤️ After I got it home I almost regretted it because the middle section was so warped all the way through and made of some sort of composite material. I actually almost put this piece in the trash again and then had an idea for the top middle section. I dismantled an old desk a while back and the wood was perfect to cut into these 1 1/2” strips for the top. After gluing them down, using wood filler to fill the gaps, I sanded smooth, added paint wash, stain and topcoat. I think it is a perfect blend of beachy and Boho and will make the perfect side table now. How much should I list it for?   3. IKEA KITCHEN TIPS (Especially if you live in 🇩🇪) 1. It's worth to spend a little more for Ikea professionals to install the main kitchen and appliances (for us, that's the sink, stove, oven and hood.) That way you get to use the water and electricals with a peace of mind that nothing's going to explode 😬 2. Ikea installation is calculated per m^2, that means upper cabinets are basically installed for free if it's right above your lower cabinets. (Our Ikea consultant was telling us that we would lose out on this by not having uppers, but we still chose not to have them) 3. Does your fridge need to be from Ikea? No. But if you do get one from Ikea, there's an option to get a "built-in" look! 4. If you're handy with an electric screwdriver, opt to build the island yourself! Order it together with your kitchen so that delivery costs are covered, and you can customize the size of the island countertop (ours is 1.2 x 1m) and then let your Ikea consultant know you want to install it yourself to save on those installation fees $ 5. Spend a few days or even weeks planning out your Ikea kitchen in their 3D planner and then book an appointment with an Ikea consultant to review. Prepare a list of questions you have prior to the appointment and your consultant will give you appropriate advice. 6. Kitchen parts are getting sold out all the time, so plan ahead! After the final consultation and sending in our order, we waited 6-7 weeks for our kitchen to come in 2 deliveries and that was considered lucky and a short waiting time ⏰ 7. If you're contemplating between butcherblock and laminated counters - Butcherblock gives a charming look but you have to maintain it well by cleaning it frequently and oiling it. Laminated counters can look good if the pattern compliments your cabinets, and is easy to maintain. 8. Get rid of those hidden costs! The first time I ever got roses was on a Valentines day many years ago, I was working in London at the time and they arrived all the way from Ireland from the man I would end up marrying ❤ Red roses came every Valentines after that and were my wedding bouquet. 8 years ago I lost Paul, the love of my life and everything was a memory ,it hurt, it broke me, it was more than anyone could bear💔 5 years ago someone new came into our lives and quite honestly saved us , he made us laugh again, we began to build new memories and I count myself extremely lucky to have that second chance.   1. Something this week that made me really happy 🥹We’ve gone backwards and forwards with what to do with this space. It’s the original hallway of this old girl that we now call our home. We thought we’d landed on using it as our dining area, but I missed having the room for the Smalls to play in. The downstairs space for the children is why we bought the house. Our garden is really rocky and hilly and not that conducive to play, so having this space for the children to run around in is really special to us. Being so close to the sea, we were happy to compromise on the garden. It’s not until we had a disco that same night we’d moved the table out, that I realised it had been a while since we’d had a disco together - though we may have had a little boogie in the kitchen 🤭 I think we’ll call it the family disco room from now on 🤗 And now it’s time to decorate!   3. IKEA Hack - I upcycled this Kallax unit from the Smalls old nursery and turned it into a tv cabinet. I gave it a light sanding to add a bit of texture to the surface. After wiping it down I used zinsser primer which is great for this type of surface. I then painted it in farrow and balls railings (colour matched by valspar). I bought the furniture legs online for £14.39 and the bee handles were £18 for four, and they screwed into the existing handle holes easily, so I did those myself whilst my beautiful assistant 😝 drilled the legs in. We already had the paint as we colour matched the cabinet to the wall. I love the fact that you can colour match the walls doing it this way and it’s saved me a fortune given that the only tv cabinets that I like seemed to cost hundreds of ££££! I’m really pleased that a couple of people have asked me where I got my tv cabinet from. It was so easy to do and as always, I enjoyed doing a little upcycle.
