  1. No, no and no! I hear these things said often and they just aren’t true. 1. Gray hair won’t make you look older. To clarify - If you are in your 20’s with gray hair you will look like someone in their 20’s with gray hair, the same is true if you are in your 30’s, 40’s etc. It’s okay to look your age and gray hair is literally just another hair color 👩🏻‍🦳🤍 But also- who decided women need to look younger in order to be considered worthy or beautiful? That’s probably a topic that deserves it’s own post.🙃 2. Gray hair isn’t always more coarse. Many women discover that their gray hair is actually the opposite of coarse. My experience has been that my gray is very soft; it’s the leftover dyed parts at the bottom that are coarse and dry. If you have do have coarse hair, regardless of the color, the key is finding and using the right products. 3. Having gray hair does NOT mean your long-haired days are over. There is no rule that says if you have gray hair or are over a certain age you have to have short hair. Wear your hair however you want! 🤍 If you are considering ditching the dye, I say go for it. Feel like you could never go gray and want to keep dyeing it? That’s okay too!   3. Recently I was introduced to an ugly side of social media, one I didn’t really know existed. The part where people say unkind and mean spirited things to others who are doing their own thing. Many of you reached out and reminded me that the focus needs to be on the positive support I am getting and to ignore the haters, which I really took to heart.   2. When I started growing out my gray hair, I thought I was documenting my hair. Looking back now, I can see I was documenting myself learning to trust my own decisions. The hardest part wasn’t even cutting it all off. It was sitting with the discomfort of wondering if I was making a mistake. This year, after I started sharing my journey online, the comments came in strong. Some incredibly kind. Some incredibly cruel. The sad part is that most of the mean ones came from other women. The comments didn’t bother me as much as I thought they would. Not because they weren’t hurtful, some definitely were. But because by then, I had already made peace with my decision. That’s what this journey gave me. Confidence isn’t getting everyone else to understand your choices. It’s no longer needing them to. Two years later, I don’t just love my gray hair.   3. A year ago, I would have looked at this hair and immediately reached for the straightener. Not because I hated the curls, but because I was still comparing them to the hair I used to have. Growing out my gray hair has been a lesson in patience, but learning how to work with its new texture has required a different kind of patience altogether. Proper nutrition, of course, forms the best foundation for healthy hair and skin. I shampoo my naturally curly hair every day 😉 yes on the daily. That's just me. I avoid using dry shampoo and purple shampoo to avoid dehydrating my scalp and hair. I prefer not to feel those types of silicone based products coating my hair. Also the coating can cast a reddish or yellowish tinge to silvers with heat styling 🤍 Then depending on whether I will wear my hair naturally curly or straightened-wavy I use certain styling products accordingly. The products listed below are the ones that have been working well for me the past months-years and are silicone-free and alcohol-free. "Attitude is the difference between an ordeal and an adventure." ✨ Three years ago almost exactly to this day, my hand was forced to stop coloring my hair...not that the ritual was something that I ever looked forward to. My severe allergic reaction to the toxic ingredients was the one of the best things that could have happened for my well-BEing 🤍 And so my adventure began. I learned a deeper level of patience and self-acceptance during the first 6 months while at first cringing at the line of demarcation 😂 and sharpened my "sword" of humor for defense against critics. As my silver streaks grew bolder I realized what a fool I had been to hide my silvering authenticity under a boring mask of hair color. Being a long time long-haired girl, my silver transition took me 2.5 years completed in August last year.
