  3. I’m sorry to tell you this, but the number of papers you read won’t secure you a research job. Your publications will. When you read papers and books, you get the illusion that you’re getting things done. Sure, it’s a fundamental part of research and you definitely should do it. But sometimes we feel so comfortable reading that we end up procrastinating the actual knowledge production part—publishing papers, presenting at conferences, etc. I’m guilty of this too. It may sound crazy, but I started applying for academic positions at the beginning of my PhD just for practice. Soon I realized I needed to extend my publication list and finish my PhD to gain stability. Most of the jobs I wanted required both. So I shifted my focus: more time writing, less time just consuming. I got rejected many, many times. (And I cried every time 🥲) But I kept writing. A few months ago, when I started my current job, my boss told me I had quite a lot of research accomplishments for my age. Maybe he was just being kind, but for me it was confirmation that my effort wasn’t worthless. I’m not saying this to brag. I just felt like being the big sis today and reminding you to share your voice. Because it’s just as important as the papers you’re reading. 2. 5 easy ways to actually enjoy studying (as much as you can haha) Change your environment → I stopped forcing myself to study in my room and started going to cafes, libraries, or even just different spots around campus. A fresh environment helps with your mindset + productivity so much more than you might think:) Make it social → Study dates with friends are always such a fun idea/try and go to the library with friends! Even if you’re working on different things, having company makes it so much more enjoyable (and you’re less likely to give up). Reward system → After every study session I do something nice for myself – grab a coffee, watch an episode, go for a walk. Having something to look forward to makes starting so much easier + rewards your brain after working hard so then you will be more likely to want to study the next time:) Good music/ambience → having good music that helps you lock in makes such a difference!! I love noise-cancelling headphones too. Start with the interesting stuff → Instead of forcing myself through boring readings first, I start with topics I’m actually curious about. It gets me in the mood and builds momentum for the harder stuff. Even though these can seem a bit obvious, they do really help especially if you pair them with each other + can help make studying seem a bit more enjoyable haha ‼️if you want more on this I’ve made full guides on productivity, studying efficiently, and building a routine that doesn’t burn you out - link in bio ‼️ #StudyTips #StudyMotivation #UniLife #StudentLife #StudyHacks MotivatedStudent WorkSmarterNotHarder UKStudents

  3. I feel like burnout has become a bit of a buzz-word at the moment but it does happen - especially if you are consistently overworking yourself! I know it’s hard not to when you have a lot of stuff to get done but here are some simple tips to help to stop overwhelming yourself with work:) 1. Leave one day for minimal to no work Setting time aside for seeing friends, personal activities, and a break from schoolwork etc. might sound daunting at first. However, dedicating this time to yourself can be more beneficial than trying to work non-stop every day. It will also help you to work better during the week because you know you’re getting a break + have something to look forward to! 2. Have 3 attainable goals a day Too many tasks can be overwhelming and unrealistic. Try limiting yourself to the tasks of highest priority each day. You can use the Eisenhower matrix to help prioritise the tasks if you need:) 3. Listen to your emotions If you feel extremely overwhelmed or tired, take a break!! It’s so much better to just give yourself a bit of time off if you’re not even taking any information in then go back to it after you have rested because then you’re actually doing quality work rather than trying to push through and just taking so much longer to do a task! 4. Set boundaries Learn to say no to things that you don’t realistically have time for or just don’t want to do. There is never going to be enough time in the day to do every single thing which is why learning your priorities and values are really important -> is top grades most important to you at the moment or is it going to the gym? That can help prioritise the non-negotiables in your day. 5. Have sustainable routines in your day I have other videos on how to build routines to avoid burnout but it’s so important to enjoy your daily routines + still have time for rest/things you enjoy as well as work, because that is ultimately what makes working sustainable and helps to avoid burnout because you have a good balance of everything🌟 #burnout #avoidingburnout #studentlife #studentliving #dayinthelife #univlog #academicburnout #examstress #academicstress
