  2. Yes, we’re building a big, beautiful home but for us, the heart of the design isn’t about giving each child a private in home suite. It’s about creating meaningful spaces we’ll share as a family. Our kids’ rooms are intentionally similar in size (no fighting for the “bigger room”) simple, practical, and comfortable. No walk-in closets, no private bathrooms. We want them to grow up in a home that feels special, but not excessive. Shared bathrooms mean less plumbing, less cleaning, and more opportunities to learn how to share space and take responsibility. The regular closets are thoughtfully designed to stay organized and functional, offering the same amount of storage, just more efficiently. And the space we saved? It went right into the kitchen, living, and dining area- which is one big, open gathering space. The kind of space where memories are ALWAYS made. One of our biggest values was to create something beautiful for all of us, while keeping the kids’ private spaces intentionally humble.   1. She’s here! We welcomed her quickly to our family on Saturday morning ❤️ Ayla Katherine Grace June 12th at 6:18am 7lbs 14oz (our smallest baby!) I was in early labour on Friday evening and wondered if things would pick up or slow down. I sent Mark out with friends because I wasn’t sure what would happen and just laid low in bed watching Parks and Rec and wrote a post for Instagram 😅 then I tried to go to sleep. I woke Mark up and called our doula at 2am on Saturday and went into heavy active labour at 4am. We had home births for both of our boys, but with only 1 midwife on call this weekend who was at the hospital in the middle of delivering another baby, we went to the hospital at 5am, my water broke at 6am and she was born a few minutes later. We left the hospital at 1:30pm, stopped to grab a coffee and a cookie from the shop (much needed 😂), and our boys just met her this morning. ❤️ It’s so weird to say “she” - and we couldn’t be happier to have her here. We are excited for this next season…. it should be fun and interesting 🤗😀

We are growing again! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time it’s not another location…. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨Baby #3 coming June 2021✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I started The Everyday Kitchen in April 2017, and a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant with our second baby. I wasn’t sure if I was going to try and make a go of this new idea I had. I decided I had to TRY and see what happened.  We worked and built up this business all through my 2nd pregnancy in 2017 and then again 5 weeks after he was born I started up again. (Yes, I was crazy). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2018-2019 was spent with Mark and I both running businesses from home and also being at stay at home parents with our two little guys. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the fall of 2019 we opened our 1st storefront location, and then 2020 happened.  🤯😅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here we are now at the end of 2020 after quite the insane year… headed into 2021 with a second location opening and a Baby #3 on its way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We could’t be more excited to add another little one to our fun filled life.❤️

  2. Just watched the new Lilo & Stitch live-action movie and I truly think it’s one of Disney’s best adaptations yet. It stays so true to the heart of the original, while adding even more depth to Lilo and Nani’s story—Maia Kealoha is an absolute star as Lilo! I was a little worried about how the alien scenes would translate into live action (especially for younger kids), but they handled it in such a sweet and thoughtful way. My daughter was especially nervous about one of the original alien characters, and was so relieved when he didn’t show up—it made the whole experience way more enjoyable for her. This movie is a perfect pick for Canadian families looking for a feel-good film that’s full of heart, sisterhood, and Disney magic. Lilo & Stitch beautifully captures the meaning of ohana (family), and it’s one of those rare remakes that really works. He makes and has over 50 sounds and reactions that will help your children know when he is happy, injured and needing help, or healed and ready to play. You will be able to watch Cooper heal after his cast is put on, along with all the love and kisses, and see him happy and ready to go for a walk. Callen and Cayden love how interactive Cooper is and the ability to help him heal. Cooper comes inside a puppy carrier that can transform into a vet tray, along with bandages and a magic cast. With a bowl of water, the boys were able to take and wet the bandages to wrap around the split creating a real cast. Once dry, it was time to let the creativity flow by decorating the cast.   3. Looking for quick and easy everyday meals without all the nitty gritty? The versatility of each @johnsonville product allows you to come up with or create a family favorite in under 30 minutes for dinner; so tonight, we are making Brat Hoagies! Items Needed: 1 Green Bell Pepper 1 White Onion (We used ½ of an onion) 1 Package of Johnsonville Smoked Brats Mozzarella Cheese Slices (1-2 slices per sandwich) Hoagie Rolls Olive Oil (to add to skillets/pans before food) Seasonings of your Choice (We only added salt + pepper) Start by heating two skillets/pans on medium heat, then prepping and slicing your bell pepper and onion into slices. Oil your pan, add veggies, and seasoning (we did salt/pepper to our liking) and mix with a spatula over 8-10 minutes until softened. While the veggies cook, slice the bratwurst in halves, add oil to the pan and place brats into the pan. Allow one minute to pass, then flip brats to the other side and allow one more minute. Move veggies to the top of the brats then add 2-3 cheese slices on top of veggies. Allow cheese to melt and cut hoagie rolls open. Using a spatula, move your brat along with veggies and cheese to your hoagie. Here’s a friendly reminder to ONLY compare yourself to the younger version of yourself and not to other journeys 🧡 The younger version of me would be jumping up and down if she knew how many hours our kiddos spend being together. I constantly remind myself of this when I find myself deep in the trenches with homeschooling in the ever changing seasons of motherhood where I occasionally find myself being the referee in petty arguments, reminding them of applying good listening and communication skills with each other, and all while juggling with a demanding 6 month old 🙈 But also sharing this in the hopes to remind you that, although I love documenting my journey in this space with everything homeschool related, I’m still knee deep in the waters trying to figure out how to navigate with a growing AND disruptive baby in tow 🧡 My journey is unique and I love offering that perspective in this space. However, know that you’re capturing a small glimpse of my homeschooling day. Our whole day is catered to baby Ari and I’m completely okay with that. As someone who’s a mama to a maturing 7 year old, I’m realizing that this season I’m in with Ari and is ONLY temporary.   1. Ok, this might trigger some people. 🙈 First off, I want to address the word “woke”. I often come across it being used in a very derogatory and incorrect way…and it riles me up a bit, so let’s dive in! 🙌 If you dive into the history, the word “woke” comes from African American Vernacular English and was meant to alert to injustice, especially racial injustice. Today I often see it used to mock or dismiss people that who are concerned about social justice issues. When I see homeschooling parents invite people to their page and promise we won’t find any woke teachings, it raises a red flag for me! 🚩 For me and our family’s homeschooling journey, social issues are IMPORTANT! Teaching my kids to be kind human beings to ALL people no matter their color, their beliefs, their identity, their sexual orientation, etc is IMPORTANT! Teaching my kids to stand up for the marginalized in society is IMPORTANT. Teaching history from other perspectives other than the white perspective is IMPORTANT. We don’t try to shield them from these things, but invite them into conversation and try to have a diverse look at our world and the many different perspectives in it. For us these are not only social issues, but a Biblical calling from Jesus to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. It feels like one small way to actually live that out! We certainly don’t have it all figured out or get it all right, but if “woke” means I am awake to the injustice of the world and trying to raise kind humans that will make a difference big or small, so be it! 🙌 This for sure might stir up some thoughts…feel free to share kindly below! ⬇️

  2. Book Report: The Last Resort At First Glance: This looks like an eerie summer read 👀 The Gist: Lila’s estranged Grandpa Clem dies, throwing a wrench in her plans. Now she’ll have to spend the summer in Ohio while her parents decide what to do with Grandpa Clem’s creepy Victorian Inn. Even worse, strange things keep happening. My Thoughts: For all those that love a good ghost story The Last Resort feels like a tale that should be shared over a campfire eating a delicious s’more. I love a book that takes place over the summer months and the ambience is there with a backdrop of a creepy, dusty old inn, that is now Lila’s home for the summer. This reminded me of books I loved when I was a kid… if memory is serving me right there was no technology except for a use of a computer at the library?! So it felt nostalgic in the sense kids were outside playing with their neighbors. Very made for Disney movie vibes, think Halloweentown. That is a big compliment IMO. I was also pleasantly surprised to see it’s going to be a series, which I think will be so fun! I also had a friend reach out and bring to my attention the interactive ghost aspect the finished copies will have. I read mine on netgalley and saw the blank pages where I believe they will be inserted. Then watched a post on Instagram on how it will work and it looks so fresh and fun! My Question for Erin: There’s something nostalgic about The Last Resort…it reminded me of those mysterious summer days as a kid when the world felt big. Did you draw on that kind of childhood wonder while writing Lila’s story? Thank you to @scholastic for sending me a copy of the book.   3. Book Report: The Man Next Door Zona’s life has hit reset: newly divorced…broke thanks to her ex’s gambling, and moving back in with her mom Louise…who’s sidelined with a broken leg. Between coupon clipping and supporting her daughter’s nursing school dreams…Zona doesn’t have much time for herself until a handsome new neighbor moves in next door👀 But when strange arguments and a mysterious disappearance follow…Zona and Louise find themselves caught between curiosity…suspicion and a whole lot of neighborly drama. This was my first Sheila Roberts book and it was totally fun! ✨ The cover reveal grabbed me and the synopsis hooked me even more because it felt so close to home…spying on the neighbors and sharing it all with my mom😂 I’ll admit I went back and forth on how I felt while reading but by the end the characters really grew on me. I’m already missing Louise and her love for a juicy crime story.   2. Feeling extremely grateful this morning. Last night I got into a terrifying car accident in our new car with the baby right outside our house. I’m so thankful to live on a block where people will come running from every house, pull me and my kid out of the car, run into our house and take care of the other ones, stay with them and feed them while I went to the hospital in an ambulance and Seth followed. Our incredible neighbors put them to bed and other friends stayed in the house until Seth came back home late. So many of our local friends have already been so helpful, and we’re so thankful to live in such an incredible community. So grateful for EMTs, police and fire department. To live 15 minutes from what I’ve now learned is a very good hospital. For my cervix; which knew that despite the fact that my uterus kick started labor for seven hours overnight because of the trauma, I’m only 34 weeks pregnant and he’s not ready to come out yet. She held the line and because I didn’t dilate, I don’t have to say thank you to the NICU staff in this post. Thankful for my pediatrician, who I called about the baby who was with me in the car, but who ended up talking me down from the ledge. Thankful for the circumstances of the accident that nobody got hurt and the property damage is as minimal as it can be. Thankful to drive a literal tank, because holy crap did our car escape pretty much any damage. Thankful that I’ve been a car seat Nazi for a decade and that I had the seats installed for two hours on Thursday morning, and refused to drive any kids in it without a car seat technician helping to make sure they were all as safe and secure as they could be. The baby came out completely unscathed and I credit that to the car seat technicians who installed our seats. Thankful to HaShem for keeping us all safe and for stopping my labor. It could have been so, so much worse. Thankful for a lot, still pretty shaken up, ngl. And thankful to you for not bombarding our phones with texts, calls and messages - we’re okay but in survival mode for the next few days while I recover and Seth tries to run a political magazine during huge election week while dealing with ** this **.
