Because this one is for the books! 🤎🦌 ✔️ 100% Solo Hunt ✔️ Public Land - CA - DIY ✔️ My Biggest General Season Buck ✔️ 8% Success Rate Unit (less than 1% are this size or bigger) I started my hike early in the dark. Honestly I wasn’t too anxious about the hike.. I knew it would be brutal, but I knew there was potential. The plan was to hike back deeper than I’ve been and look at new country early while bucks were still up on their feet. As I gradually inclined and sidehilled back I finally talked myself into hiking up to the top of the ridiculously steep ridge that I was wanted to avoid. I immediately found sign, beds, trails.. things were looking promising. As I made my way back further I crept over the top of a finger ridge and glassed across to the portion of new mountain that I’d just exposed. I glassed up a buck! I quickly put my spotter on him and saw he was just a forkie. He was a good sign but I didn’t hike that far or up that steep mountain for that. I decided I’d rather continue my hike and pass him. I continued glassing the rest of the face.. then I saw a bigger buck! As soon as I saw him in my binos I knew I wanted to shoot him! I ranged him at 300yds, put my spotter on him, and immediately started making a move. Within minutes the bucks paired up and started feeding away from me.. about to go over the next ridge. I tried to lay prone using my backpack as a rest but I was too low. I grabbed my pack and gun and quickly but quietly crawled forward to get a better angle. As soon as I had clearance I got in a seated position with my backpack standing up as my front rest and used my elbow on my right knee as my rear support. The buck was now at 350 yards and I was looking at him through the scope. My rest wasn’t as stable as I’d like for a shot at that distance but I was hovering back and forth in the kill zone the whole time.. I felt confident.   3. Every week, I set aside $20 and scour my local area in each of any historically/culturally relevant, valuable, or just plain COOL items I can save from a landfill bound fate. This week started strong with another silver find for my tiny hoard! This is a sterling money clip made in Mexico. There is a turquoise inlay of a shark in the center of the clip. My dad used to use one of these, and I've always wanted one of my own! But Nick will probably be the one who ends up using it 😂 Then, I found something I've been searching for for years! It's an early model of the Singer children's hand sewing machine. These beautiful little machines were produced from the 1920s to the 1970s. They are highly sought after by collectors and can fetch several hundred dollars under the correct conditions! Last but certainly not least, I picked up a Dupont celluloid hand mirror. Celluloid is a highly flammable, tough, and moldable thermoplastic made from a combination of cellulose nitrate and camphor. It was the first commercially successful synthetic plastic and was widely used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, notably for making motion picture film, but also for a wide range of other products.  I recently learned about the massive scandal that occurred under Dupont's watch and was shocked to learn that a brand I had grown up with concealed the dangers associated with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA, also known as C8), a chemical used in the production of Teflon and other products. This situation resulted in widespread environmental contamination and significant health issues for residents living near DuPont's manufacturing facilities, particularly the Washington Works plant in Parkersburg, West Virginia.   1. Hi, this is Pam’s mom @napkinapocalypse .. it’s taken me a while to think of what to write on her behalf and i’m not certain I know exactly what I want to say but we lost Pam last week. It all happened fast. I noticed she started drinking a lot more water so I took her in to get checked out. we did a blood and urine test to find she had a bad UTI with her kidney levels elevated. So the assumption was she had a bad bladder infection that spread to her kidneys. she was put on antibiotics and 24 hours later she wasn’t getting better. I took her back in for a recheck and her kidney values had sky rocketed. so either something else was going on or she wasn’t on the right medication. she was taken straight from there to stay the nite at a hospital where she was monitored and given IV fluids and a different injectable antibiotic. The next morning they rechecked her blood and she wasn’t getting any better. The dr did an ultrasound to find her abdomen riddled with cancer that had been empowered by the IV fluids. Even if we could get her to come back from the kidney failure chemo would be our only treatment option and for the type of cancer she had it has a low success rate. in two days her health had decreased to the point where the dr didn’t feel she would return to a quality of life worth living again and we had to let her go. we’re still learning to live without her. she is everything to our family. I’m not certain what will become of her instagram or how @pamwear will evolve, but we’re still here! I don’t know what we ever did to deserve this cute family-owned spot that is 100% vegan 🌱 but I love coming here for the fresh Mediterranean flavors that don’t disappoint Keep in mind that the dinner and lunch menus are slightly different at @kosharimama , so check out both before deciding when to go! My all-time favorite items from here are the Moussaka (for the eggplant lovers!), Ckn Salad Sandwich (think classic chicken sandwich on a sub roll but with a pop more of flavor) and Konafa (warm sweet custard with crunchy shredded kataifi). My husband is obsessed with the Mushroom Shawerma that is covered in a really flavorful garlic tahini sauce and I’d recommend the Egyptian Meatballs too if you like dill, they really held their structure well I couldn’t believe they were gluten-free. This is also a great spot to get a few small plates- the Falafel, Muhammara and Cucumber Mint Dip are my favorites from that section of the menu. I always save room for dessert here too because their Konafa is so good and their dessert specials are always really good too! @kosharimama has wine, beer and some booths/tables so this is a great spot to bring a friend to catch-up and try something new! Als es im Frühsommer mit gepackten Koffern nach Schweden ging, hätten wir nie erwartet dieses Jahr schon so ein Teil des Jaktklubbs zu sein, geschweige denn mit auf die Elchjagd zu gehen. Und ganz ehrlich, das erste, was uns beiden zu den letzten beiden Tagen in den Sinn kommt sind: Emotionen. Die gesamte Atmosphäre, die unbeschreibliche Landschaft, die man wirklich selbst erlebt und gesehen haben muss, die Aufregung, sowohl die eigene, als auch die aller, aber besonders Dankbarkeit ist das Gefühl, welches überwiegt. Dankbarkeit, das alles erleben und fühlen zu dürfen und vor allem Dankbarkeit, für die Menschen dieses Jaktklubbs. Es ist unglaunlich wie lieb und mit welcher Selbstverständlichkeit wir aufgenommen wurden. Jeder ist so bemüht um uns, wir werden überall eingebunden, es wird alles erklärt und wenns mit der Sprache doch nochmal stockt notfalls mit Händen und Füßen und vor allem, immer einem Lächeln. Jagd ist nicht allein jagen und schießen, Jagd bedeutet auch eine tiefe Verbundenheit, welche wir hier ganz besonders erleben dürfen. Vielen Dank dafür! 🇬🇧 Moosehunt - A dream we never allowed ourselves to dream coming true. As we arrived in Sweden this year in the early summer we didn't expect to be part of the huntingclub that fast, not even to think about moosehunting. Now thinking about the last two days, the one thing directly coming to our mind is: emotions. The overall atmosphere, the excitement, not only ours, even of the other hunters, but the most powerful emotion is gratefulness. We are grateful to be allowed and able to experience all this, grateful to be able to enjoy such special and breathtaking nature, you need to experience by yourself, and especially gratefulness for the people. They welcomed us with open arms and hearts, let and encourage us be part of everything, and explain every single detail to us. In cases yhe language gap i a bit to big with hand and feet and always a smile. Die Illustration ist von Hanna Bischof und damit ist auch der Titel raus. Ja, das Buch wird „Männer töten“ heißen. An dieser Stelle darf ich meinen Dank an @terezahossa ausrichten. Sie kam beim Lesen auf diesen grandiosen Titel. Wer sonst? Männer töten – in Österreich dem Land der Femizide und auf der ganzen Welt. Männer töten klingt gleich ganz anders, wenn man ein Satzzeichen setzt. Ein Ausrufezeichen zum Beispiel! Oder ein Fragezeichen? Ich liebe die Zweideutig am Titel besonders. Das Cover steht in der Sanftheit so schön im Kontrast dazu. Auch wenn die Vorschau erst nach der Leipziger Buchmesse veröffentlicht wird, darf ich verraten, was andere Autorinnen zum Manuskript sagen: „Dieses Buch wird einschlagen! Erinnert euch an meine Worte.“ - Jaqueline Scheiber aka @minusgold , Autorin „Das wird mörderisch.“ - @iamchristlclear , Bloggerin & Autorin „Die Welt braucht dieses Buch mindestens genauso fest, wie ich den Hundetrainer gebraucht habe, den Eva Reisinger mir empfohlen hat.“ @terezahossa , Kabarettistin & Tierärztin Männer töten erscheint im August 2023 bei @leykamverlag und bald könnt ihr es vorbestellen.
