  2. I know this topic is uncomfortable for a lot of people but it remains our number one asked question in our DMโ€™s - autism and periods. Itโ€™s so important to have these conversations because parents are terrified for their special needs daughter to start her period - I know I was! The week before (PMS week) is a lot of emotional highs/lows and behaviors we usually donโ€™t see from Presley (itโ€™s usually a rough week at school) and then the next week is a lot of creating peace in our home, proper rest, and nutrition. Itโ€™s been a learning journey for my husband and I but we get better every month at handling all the things during this time of the month - and you will too! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ A few things that helped us: - talk to your doctor about different options - some families choose to go the birth control route to eliminate periods (do what you need to do - no judgement) - period underwear - disposable period underwear - a bidet for your toilet - a loofah with a LONG handle to help with washing - I had to learn Presley would get headaches and cramps before she could tell us - so I made sure to have liquid ibuprofen on hand. - chocolate - duh! - a weighted heating pad to rest on the stomach - a hot shower in the morning and a hot Epsom salt bath at night I hope this helps! Story time- Back when we were in France a few months ago, Nyrooโ€™s existing headphones were pinching her when she was using them so I wanted Hari to order new headphones and he ordered these ones. He thought they looked really cool, I didnโ€™t pay attention and we ordered them. It wasnโ€™t until they came and I was searching all over to see how to connect to her iPad that we realised it wasnโ€™t headphones at all, it was just ear muffs to protect kids from sound ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ Cut to my sisterโ€™s wedding this year , I know Nyroo has always been wary of sounds, sheโ€™s hated dhol, itโ€™s made our experience at weddings quite miserable sometimes because she would just refuse to enter the area with dhol. And whatโ€™s a punjabi wedding without dhol? So I just packed these ear muffs in the back of the bag and I took it just like that for my sisterโ€™s wedding and Iโ€™m so so glad that I did, because the first event was an absolute disaster. Nyroo refused to come anywhere near the event because there were dhols playing full on and there were performers, it really loud and she was just so uncomfortable. It wasnโ€™t until I got these from the room and put it on that she attended the last 10 mins of the event after which we knew we had a winner because we used this for every single event from then on. We were so happy that we had it. Absolute life saver. I was so happy that she could finally be a part of the events and have a good time so I had a good time ! If you have a kid that is afraid of sounds and loud noises like Nyroo then definitely pack this one. However, the leading cause of a babyโ€™s scent is still not completely understood. It may be sweat glands & it may be leftover scent from the vernix. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸฝAccording to research the newborn scent triggers a dopamine response.
