  2. I know this topic is uncomfortable for a lot of people but it remains our number one asked question in our DM’s - autism and periods. It’s so important to have these conversations because parents are terrified for their special needs daughter to start her period - I know I was! The week before (PMS week) is a lot of emotional highs/lows and behaviors we usually don’t see from Presley (it’s usually a rough week at school) and then the next week is a lot of creating peace in our home, proper rest, and nutrition. It’s been a learning journey for my husband and I but we get better every month at handling all the things during this time of the month - and you will too! 🥰🥰 A few things that helped us: - talk to your doctor about different options - some families choose to go the birth control route to eliminate periods (do what you need to do - no judgement) - period underwear - disposable period underwear - a bidet for your toilet - a loofah with a LONG handle to help with washing - I had to learn Presley would get headaches and cramps before she could tell us - so I made sure to have liquid ibuprofen on hand. - chocolate - duh! - a weighted heating pad to rest on the stomach - a hot shower in the morning and a hot Epsom salt bath at night I hope this helps! What can seem scary will become your new normal and you will ROCK it! You got this mom and dad! 💜💜💜💜💜

Boundaries are loving and TRUE gentle parenting should look like this: giving a logical consequence every time they misbehave while showing them love through co-regulation (offering love/hugs during tantrums is actually backed by neuroscience). My middle child is VERY emotionally reactive & I know that every time I give her a consequence, she is going to have a tantrum. But that doesn’t stop me from giving them & I’m not afraid of her tantruming because I have the tools to deal with them so they can be over in a matter of minutes. It starts with regulating myself & staying calm while never giving in to the objective of her tantrum. If you’re wondering what started this whole meltdown in the first place, I had put pieces of sausage in her scrambled eggs & she wanted ME to take them out. I told her she needed to do it herself and started filming a video, but then she had a bit of a delayed reaction & threw her scissors to test me. Toddlers are always testing because they want to see what they can get away with & also whether or not your love is unconditional. I never make my children feel rejected or unloved during a tantrum, but I will hold my boundary EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Tantrums get shorter and less frequent the more you allow them to happen & don’t constantly appease your child. My 5 YO almost never tantrums now & I handled her big feelings in exactly the same way as I do with her little sister. They are able to hear the familiar sound of your heartbeat. ⁣ ⁣ 🙅🏽‍♀️Is not safe if you are napping too. You need to monitor them. Set yourself up with a television show or a good book that you’ve been wanting to read. ⁣ ⁣ 💁🏻‍♀️They will be outgrown. Many babies outgrow contact naps between 4 & 8 months of age. Follow @simplywell.baby to learn more about your baby. 👃🏻A study published in 1987 found that 90% of mothers could recognize their newborn by smell alone. Multiple other studies have been completed with similar findings. 👃🏼Research shows that there are approximately 130 natural chemicals that cause a newborns scent. However, the leading cause of a baby’s scent is still not completely understood. It may be sweat glands & it may be leftover scent from the vernix. 👃🏽According to research the newborn scent triggers a dopamine response. Dopamine is sometimes called the “happy hormone”. 👃🏾Dopamine is made by your body and then used by your nervous system to send messages, as a neurotransmitter.
