  2. “Take the long view because you are the guide for your child’s growth towards adulthood. Cultivate patience. Help your child learn what they are able to learn and try not to expect more. The most important help that you can perhaps give your child is your own balanced, mature, responsible, and caring ways towards them…” Adapted and inspired by a quote by Cindy Brooks and Joya Birns - inspiredfamilylife.com Parenting is about self-development and self-awareness and when we come to understand this we truly understand that it is who we are that deeply affects our child. Being patient can be the hardest thing to do especially when you are triggered, dysegulated or overwhelmed. What makes it even harder to be patient is if you didn’t have this modeled in childhood. When you lose your patience, when you are not in control of your words and actions, you are modeling to your child that this is what people do when they get angry and upset. You are actually teaching your child how to behave in situations that frustrate and anger them. When you model patience and are in control of your emotions, words and actions, your child learns what patience looks like and perhaps even more important, how it feels. They learn that you care about making space for them to say how they feel and to have their voice heard. They learn through your patience that taking time and being in control of our emotions, words and actions is important. They learn that being patient makes for better listening and that it’s easier to be understood and to hear what others have to say. They experience your patience and your intentional presence. Being patient is intentional work and when you are clear about your intentions in parenting, you become kinder, more mindful, and more aware. . . 3. The years go fast even when time feels like it has slowed down and days are on repeat, especially when our children are little. Perhaps Mother Nature, in all her wisdom, has purposely designed it to be this way so that we can learn to slow down and find joy and magic in ordinary days. When we engage in experiences that repeat again and again, with curiosity and wonder, we are more able to embody what it means to be present just as children do naturally. We discover something that we missed seeing before. Childhood is so brief and if we aren’t present in these early years, we might miss out on really getting to know our children. We might miss out on building the solid foundation for the relationship we want to have with them when they are adults. Yes, the days can feel long, I’ve been there too, but believe me when I say that the years go by so fast! Life is a gift so let’s treat each day like it’s found treasure. . . 2. Does your baby seem to nap best when they’re lying on your chest? You are NOT alone! 😴⁣ ⁣ I’m Brooke a Pediatric NP 👋🏼 Follow @simplywell.baby to learn more about your baby or toddler.⁣ ⁣ It’s common for babies to nap on their caregivers, especially when they’re small & when they’re not feeling well as older babies or toddlers.⁣ ⁣ 🙅🏻‍♀️It does not lead to a spoiled baby. ⁣ ⁣ 💁🏿‍♀️It may allow your baby to get a good nap. ⁣ ⁣ 🙅🏼‍♀️It is not your baby manipulating you. ⁣ ⁣ 💁🏾‍♀️It might be comforting for your baby. They are able to hear the familiar sound of your heartbeat. ⁣ ⁣ 🙅🏽‍♀️Is not safe if you are napping too. You need to monitor them. Set yourself up with a television show or a good book that you’ve been wanting to read. ⁣ ⁣ 💁🏻‍♀️They will be outgrown. Many babies outgrow contact naps between 4 & 8 months of age. Though older babies & toddlers usually will find your chest quite comforting if they don’t feel well. ⁣ ⁣ 💤If your baby wants to always nap on you and you prefer that they don’t, you can get them to nap in a crib with patience and consistency. ⁣ ⁣ 👇🏼 Comment below if your baby naps on you?⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ Disclaimer: The American Academy of Pediatrics says that the safest place for your baby to sleep is on their back on a firm mattress, without any pillows or blankets, and in close proximity to you. ⁣ ⁣ 🥰Did you find this helpful? 3. How it started vs. how it’s going 🤎 I often get asked: “When should I introduce a mud kitchen to my toddler?” Every parent will know when their child is ready. For us, we introduced it at 18 months because we knew it would grow with him (and future siblings) and become a staple in our outdoor play and learning 🌿 ✔️What it looks like at 18 months: • Sensory-focused play: exploring textures like mud, water, and sand through scooping, pouring, and touching • Builds fine motor skills, early language, and foundational STEM learning • Play is exploratory and messy, not yet “pretend cooking” • Use taste-safe, non-toxic materials (mud, water, cornstarch, leaves, large utensils) • Close supervision is key (because yes… everything still goes in the mouth) ✔️ What it looks like at 2–3 years: • Still rooted in sensory play, but imagination and pretend play starts to bloom • Begins simple “cooking” and role-play alongside mixing and pouring • Strengthens fine motor skills through stirring, scooping, and handling tools • Supports language development and early social play • Simple activities and skills introduced like washing toys, pouring water, mixing mud • Focus is still on the tactile experience, not perfection or structured play It’s one of those setups that truly grows with your child and becomes more meaningful with each stage & is the best investment for us that will be used for years 🌿🤍 #outdoorlearning #playideas #toddlertime #babyactivities #momtips
