Today is the first anniversary of our eldest child Deborah’s death. Deborah came into the world full of energy and never stopped over the next 40 years. The past 12 months have not been easy but we remember with immense pride and love the amazing impact she had on so many lives and the incredible legacy she has left. We were young parents when Deborah was born and the first cuddles and touches with your firstborn are something you remember for ever and cannot be taken away from you - life with Debs was always interesting, fun, and manic but there was always a determination in her to help others achieve their full potential especially in her teaching career. When first diagnosed with Bowel Cancer it took us time to realise the seriousness of her diagnosis but we immediately knew she wanted to share her story with others to establish open communication about a subject that many considered a taboo - you will all agree she succeeded ! We followed and supported her work in the last 5 years of life but also remembered we were there as her ever loving parents and grandparents to her children. In what became very difficult times it was wonderful to see the immense love and support she received from her husband Sebastien and their children, her siblings Sarah & Ben together with the unwavering support of their families. During her final weeks at home the atmosphere was unique but most importantly loving - we all understood what the end would be, although I struggled to believe that Deborah was facing the end of her life that she loved so much, but there was a determination to enjoy every last minute and experiences we had together. Although I’m sure nobody expected that Prince William would join us for tea & champagne!! Deborah you always provided a challenge but it was your ability to put it in the right direction and communicate so brilliantly that made a difference. As your brother said on the eve of your funeral - from the beginning you taught me how to live - you had that effect on far more people than you ever knew and that is why you were so loved and are now so missed - Deborah we love you for ever. The ultimate Christmas morning breakfast casserole, easy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious! Sausage Breakfast Casserole Ingredients 1 pound breakfast sausage 6-8 slices of bread @canyonglutenfree 8 eggs 1 cup milk 1 can cream of mushroom soup 2 cups shredded cheese Salt and pepper to taste Sauté the sausage and set aside. Chop the bread into 1/2” cubes and place in a large bowl.  In a separate bowl, mix the milk, eggs and cream of mushroom soup until smooth.  Add the bread, sausage, milk/egg/soup mixture, cheese, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper to the bowl. Mix well.   Pour into a greased baking dish and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Enjoy! Qualche considerazione sulla giornata: in primis come vi ho accennato nelle storie, sono l’unica italiana quest’anno, qualcosa mi dice che eserciterò la lingua 🇫🇷 Non voglio far polemica tornando sull’argomento reddito da re-impatrio che non esiste più, anche perché sono felice di non essere in mezzo alle zecche, ma voglio ricordare che questo è il mio terzo anno a vendemmiare in Borgogna, il primo era la prima volta che venivo da sola, poi la prima volta che facevo la vendemmia interrompendo la mia chemioterapia, infine questa volta l’unica italiana e per ora l’unica non francese… Vedremo chi arriverà domani, perché aspettiamo ancora qualcuno In foto / video la vigna vendemmiata oggi, la parcelle du Clavoillon,in zona Premier Cru a Puligny-Montrachet 🍇 Marie-Claude la mia super compagna di equipe, perché per tutto il giorno abbiamo lavorato a squadre di 5/6 Il trattore che porta le uve, mio sogno nel cassetto guidarne uno in vendemmia prima o poi 🚜 Una delle centinaia di coccinelle che ho visto oggi, qui sono biodinamici e usano anche i cavalli in vigna 🐞 La maison dove sono alloggiata, di fianco alla cuverie 🛏️

Secondo giorno andato: vendemmiato in pendenza (non credo si possa immaginare dal video quando sia dura); vendemmiato filari lunghissimi che sembravano non finire mai e un po’ demoralizzavano, ma tra di noi ci si aiuta sempre e chi finisce prima va a dare una mano a chi è rimasto indietro; piccola disavventura serale quando pensavo di aver perso le chiavi della stanza e di doverle andare a cercare in vigna (avevo già iniziato a contattare un fabbro in zona, ma senza successo), poi ritrovate magicamente; dulcis in fundo a cena ci hanno gentilmente fatto assaggiare il vino prodotto dalla vigna da noi vendemmiata nel pomeriggio, buonissimo a dir poco! Ora vado a dormire - dolorante, ma felice - perché domani alle 6 abbiamo la sveglia #staytuned

La vendemmia, il momento più atteso, sognato, a volte anche temuto dell’anno… Alcuni hanno già finito, altri stanno facendola e qualcuno persino deve ancora iniziare (come ad esempio chi fa le vendemmie tardive). Si tratta dell’operazione di raccolta dell’uva matura dalla vigna, un passaggio fondamentale per la produzione del vino; può essere effettuata manualmente o con macchine specifiche. Inizia generalmente a fine agosto e si protrae fino all’autunno inoltrato, variando in base al tipo di uva e alla regione, e mira a raccogliere l’uva nel momento ideale di maturazione per ottenere le caratteristiche desiderate nel futuro vino. #forsenontuttisannoche il termine deriva dal latino vinum (vino) e demere (togliere, raccogliere), indicando quindi la “raccolta del vino” attraverso la raccolta dell’uva. Io sono ormai alla mia VIII vendemmia, dopo averne fatte tre in Italia (Piemonte, Veneto e Toscana), una in Champagne, quest’anno per la terza volta sono stata in Borgogna a raccogliere le uve migliori al mondo. Piante bassissime, con grappoli anche attaccati a terra, quindi si vendemmia sempre in ginocchio o piegati, alcuni lo fanno anche da seduti strusciando persino… Però ogni zona e ogni uva ha un diverso sistema di allevamento e un diverso periodo per la vendemmia (solitamente si inizia con le uve per le bollicine) e noi questa settimana cercheremo di raccontarvi come si fanno le varie vendemmie nelle varie regioni d’Italia.

Raise your hand if you love pinots! 🙋🏼‍♀️ went to @emerituswines in Sebastopol and it was a great experience with some amazing pinots! They have one Pinot that is widely distributed in restaurants so look out for it when you are out ordering a bottle (so good!). If you visit the winery - my favorite was the 2018 Pinot Hill! But I honestly enjoyed all of them (so it’s hard to chose a favorite)! They are also dog friendly!
