  1. 🥃It’s day 2 of -20° weather 🥶 and I’m dreaming of a tropical vacation. What better time to talk about rum finished whisky? 🌺 🏝Rum casks are often whiskey casks first. Usually charred barrels that previously held bourbon or Tennessee whiskey are sent to rum producers in the Caribbean. In warmer climates, spirits mature faster, and barrels maturing rum can be used repeatedly. Eventually the barrels do lose their oak flavor, so whisky makers need to be careful choosing their rum casks, or create their own rum maturation facility like Glenfiddich. Not all rum is created equal, but typically a rum cask will fuse whisky with tropical fruit, coconut, and caramel flavors. Phenols give peat its smoky flavor and can be measured in the malt (barley). However, not all of the phenols end up in the final spirit, so the PPM just gives you an idea of how smokey a dram MIGHT be.   3. Black tux, cigars and freedom. Stilettos, cosmetics, and family. Gender expression instilled into us early on by society. Is it really necessary, however, to perceive physical appearances, behaviours and interests as either more “masculine” or “feminine”? I do not believe in definitive dualities. Gender expression is a continuum. I wear suits, but I also wear stilettos. I am aggressive when it comes to ambition, but am emotional when it comes to relationships. Under this cold and detached exterior burns inextinguishable colours of ambition, empathy, and unrelenting affection. I am a paradox that holds not only an unapologetic curiosity, but also an unprejudiced tenderness. The same qualities I was surprised to find mirrored in Tom Ford’s Oud Wood Fragrance.   2. A esta vaquerita casi casi la estoy mirando dandole cañon al tacón de esas botas mañana en su pachangona! Esta es Mei Lien. Tuvimos dos sessiones por que a medias de la primera comenzo a llover y no quedé tranquila de que les habia dado lo mejor de mi asi que les pregunté si podiamos hacer una corta session otro dia despues. Si me preguntan a mi, la segunda session me dejo con el ocico abierto! Les hice sugerencias de como queria su pelo, si me dejaban tomarle fotos con su hermanito encueros (arrisgando que se fuera a hacer 💦o💩 alli metengues!) quitarle la crinolina, sentarla en el piso, correr de un lado para otro solo por que la luz se nos estaba llendo.   3. Alguito SUPER diferente a lo que estoy acostumbrada! Y que si la regaba? Y que si no me salia como me imaginé que las cosas saldrian? Y que si la nieve no se mira chida? O si se mira chida pero le mancha su vestido a la quince? Que si todo sale bien pero ese rollo de nieve adentro de un barn nomas no se mira chido? Bueno, para cubrir y por si salia bien o no esta parte de la session que nomas en mi mente me imaginé y que neta no hicimos pruebas previas asta que ya comenzamos a tomar las fotos de adeveras, tambien le tomé fotos a la quince en otra parte. Ya saben; asi como para decir “pues las fotos de la nieve salieron bien culey, pero que tal estas otras en el zaguan?” 🤣😂. Les voy a ser bien honesta, aunque nieve dentro de un barn solo lo he visto en las peliculas del nacimiento, la verdad me encantarón!!!! Mi vision era mucho mas simple y romantica y ligera de lo que terminó saliendo de aqui! Me siento orgullosisima. Pero en esta si les confiezo. Todo salió de pura chiripada! Aunque mis clientes hallan pensado que yo ya me las comia ardiendo, la neta no sabia ni que carajos canijos estaba yo haciendo!   3. It has been 3 weeks since we were all together in New Orleans, and - I must admit - I’m still absorbing the beautiful energy from the entire experience at @tales_of_the_cocktail this year. Many say it was the best Tales yet - and I must say that I agree. Packed with long-overdue hugs, top-notch educational seminars and events , and - of course - the delicious cocktails, food, and phenomenal Nola hospitality. It was an unforgettable week! I was also inducted into the Dame Hall of Fame alongside two incredible individuals, the incomparable @spirited_tracie and the inspiring @gundomonkey . This was an honor and a day I will cherish always. The energy in the room was electric. This energy - I will carry it forward with me and remember it whenever I seek courage and grounding. Thank you for recognising my work and believing in me. Thank you for encouraging me to continue to climb mountains in our industry and in life. 💪❤️🏔 My Tales was quieter this year.   1. In March 2026, the Keepers of the Quaich, the prestigious international society dedicated to celebrating Scotch whisky, inducted Malcolm Offord. Mr Offord had become Leader of Reform UK Scotland six weeks earlier, on 15 January 2026. Reform UK’s published platform includes repealing the Equality Act 2010, scrapping DEI frameworks, and its leader has publicly stated that equal marriage was “wrong.” These are not matters of political interpretation. They are on the record. The whisky industry employs, serves, and celebrates people of every gender, sexual orientation, and background. The quaich is a symbol of trust, love, and friendship. Those two things are in tension, and the Keepers deserve to be asked about it directly. After posting about this on my stories on the 7th May, I wrote to them on 11th May 2026. I received no acknowledgement. Please note, this letter does NOT demand the removal of Mr Offord, it asks the Keepers of the Quaich to qualify his appointment in the first place. Why not ask for removal? I believe people/groups should be given the chance to review and take action first, and leave to escalate should it be required. Others in the industry are now raising the same concern. So I’m opening this letter for signatures. For nearly a century, the Gordon family has quietly laid down casks across Scotland, building one of the most remarkable reserves of aged Scotch whisky. Not for release. Not for trend. Just for time. Now, a small part of that history steps forward. The House of Hazelwood 2026 Charles Gordon Collection brings together four rare Scotch whiskies, matured for up to 48 years in traditional dunnage warehouses near Dufftown in Speyside… where cool air, stone walls and patience shaped every drop. The collection: A Different World (1977) – Single Grain Scotch whisky (57.2% ABV) Distilled at Girvan using maize and an unusual cut point, then matured in sherry cask for decades. The result is unmistakable… herbal, green, and unlike modern single grain whisky. The Silent Partner – 47 year old blended Scotch whisky (46.7% ABV) Peat used with precision. Not dominant, but quietly woven into sweet grain whisky and Highland single malt… adding depth without taking over. A Fond Farewell – 46 year old blended malt Scotch whisky (43.8% ABV) Drawn from rare Hogmanay casks, filled on New Year’s Eve in the 1970s. A tradition that has disappeared, but still lives on in the whisky. An Organised Whole – 45 year old blended malt Scotch whisky (47.3% ABV) A study in balance.
