LONG LIVE WEARING YOUR PERSONALITY 🩷 The History of bag charms and the next big trend✨ 🕊️The chatalain which Began as a decorative hook attached to a belt, with chains suspending household items, reminds me of todays shift to keeping our belongs displayed outside of bags on bag charms or even phone cases. Popular in the 16th-17th Centuries it wasnt until the 19th century that they became less utility and more fashion. Variations were worn by housekeepers, nurses, and eventually adopted by high society women. They were seen as a “portable toolkit,” carrying items like scissors, vials, and writing instruments. They brecame a fashionable way to showcase your personale hobbies and style. Its interesting how no matter how far back you go in history we have always been obsessed with asserting our individuality or personal style in some way! Like bag charms, they acted as a way of communicating or social signaling . Before chatting you could tell what you might have in common weather its a labubu or a for the 19th century women a thimble. Jewllers like Tiffany & Co, Liberty and Sampson Mordan picked up on the tend and began prodcuign their own ornate designs, and I feel like these could still be styled really well today. What I love about the chatlain is that it isnt simply about self expression it has a use, and those are my favourite bag charms things like antique bottle openers lighters and lipglosses. There usefulness makes the fashion statement feel far more nonchalant and less forced. Here’s🩸Part 1🩸of Lucy’s wedding dress costume for the @society.of.salome Halloween walk! 🍂🍂 This is my first time recreating a pre-existing costume so it’s a little nerve wracking 😭😅 but it’s good practice for uni (I do costume interpretation btw)! I am mostly working with scraps and second hand fabric so it’s a really fun challenge to try to recreate the costume as close to the original as possible given the material limitations… The lace for the main part of the collar came from the edge of a curtain (the top part of the curtain will be used for the hat and the front apron bit as well because we don’t waste fabric in this house😎😎) I’m also guessing most of the making but it’s been teaching me a whole bunch of new techniques and ways to manipulate fabric so I’m thoroughly enjoying the process!   3. *edited to update information please read caption/to say it’s been brought to my attention the vintage photo included was of her Brentwood home (aka the only home she ever owned) it was on the Redfin listing for this home. That’s my bad for trusting the listing. SOME say this was Marilyn Monroe’s desert escape 🌴 This Palm Springs home was designed by architect Charles DuBois and built in 1961, just a year before Marilyn’s passing. While she wouldn’t have had much time to enjoy it, she’s reported to have stayed here (it would not have been a primary residence nor a home she owned, nor a long term living arrangement). Though hard evidence doesn’t exist, I’d consider it unofficial BUT the home is still stunning and it’s fun to imagine her vacationing here and finding a bit of peace away from Hollywood in this desert oasis. The home spans approximately 3,000 square feet and it last sold in 2020 for $1.5 million. Somethings been cooking for the past 5 months 👀🤰🏻 Getting dressed with my new growing bump was definitely a challenge to begin with, my biggest tip to anyone also going through this would be to buy “normal” clothes in larger sizes, instead of buying maternity clothes. This way I’m still able to find things that suit my personal style and might also work after the baby is born! And of course buy second hand instead of buying new, almost everything worn here is thrifted or vintage to give you an idea! Also no shade to legging lovers lol I just still want to try to dress like myself for as long as possible! (Let’s see how long it’ll last) 1: vintage skirt I’ve had since last year and it’s stretchy enough to still fit! 🎉 Vintage tee via @depop 2: Vintage dress via @ebay_uk 3: all vintage, bag is @glynit 4: Skirt is from an amazing slow fashion brand called @harlyjae, they focus on staple, amazing quality pieces that’ll last!
